ORIGINAL: Just0Plain0Mike So would you be ok with the KKK protesting black funerals, praising God for getting rid of another... ? How about Noe-Nazis at Jewish funerals? If you're significant other died, would you be ok with them protesting her funeral because she was a sexual deviant? What has one got to do with another? Just because the WBC got what they deserved doesn't necessarily mean it got given to them in a way that makes the act right. quote:
Funerals are private, they are NOT a place to hold a protest. There are times that free speech has to take a back seat to common decency and the right to bury your loved one in peace. So close, yet so far. Free speech itself should not take a back seat to decency. But there should be the option not to have that speech shoved down your throat. That's where the problem with picketing funerals is: they're disturbing the actual proceedings in a manner that is intrusive, rather than just putting their ideas out there. They should be allowed to put their ideas out there, but I don't think they should be allowed to intrude in order to do so. That's got nothing to do with common decency, which, while I agree it to be important, is a thing I don't think we should legislate. IWYW, — Aswad.
