I am well aware of what they have said dosent mean I hold it to be true ass soon as a more enlightened body is elected the law will be as it should. I still just do what ever I want. lets say i dident sign my social contract and am still negotiating.

They are avoiding the 2nd like the plague. Im with SilverMark on this... I wish it would go before the courts. Should make for an interesting case, regardless of the outcome.

But, for now, the Court isnt likely to change. But, gun control is on its way. Where is the dialogue from gun owners? Im just curious as to why they havent said just how they are willing to put forth ideas on how to control them better within the home.

SimplyMichael -> RE: Republicans will support gun control this time (12/18/2012 9:12:17 PM)

No, i treat people with the respect they deserve.

Miller had a sawed off shotgun. Prosecution claimed shotguns were not used by the.military and the defense was too ignorant to challenge that. So they denied the 2nd amendment applied.

So instead of being an anti gun ruling, its really quite the opposite.

Yeah, thats a spigot launcher on an sks. It wont launch potatoes....it blows them up.

same thing. golf balls hold together better. parts of the potato go places at least.

SimplyMichael -> RE: Republicans will support gun control this time (12/18/2012 9:15:40 PM)

Make a tube to go over the spigot with a spike for the potatoes.

Whats scary is the european INERTAL rifle grenade used fmj rounds you fired into the grenade to launch them.

1... no shit. I know damn well what gun was in that case. Why the fuck do you feel the need... the unmitigated gall... to treat people like fucking morons, I have no clue...

2.. Now, this will be the very last time I address you. I have had my fill of your bullshit on these threads and I have lost all respect for you.

Do have a great life.

facts really piss this girl off.

tazzygirl -> RE: Republicans will support gun control this time (12/18/2012 9:17:48 PM)

Oh, Im not pissed.... lol... not even close.

And, sadly, as far as his "facts"... he assumed things he could not possibly know as any basis of fact. [;)]

SimplyMichael -> RE: Republicans will support gun control this time (12/18/2012 9:20:43 PM)

You keep quoting miller to support your case, which it doesnt.

jlf1961 -> RE: Republicans will support gun control this time (12/18/2012 10:25:09 PM)

John Boehner's votes on gun control

Voted YES on prohibiting product misuse lawsuits on gun manufacturers. (Oct 2005)
Voted YES on prohibiting suing gunmakers & sellers for gun misuse. (Apr 2003)
Voted YES on decreasing gun waiting period from 3 days to 1. (Jun 1999)
Rated A by the NRA, indicating a pro-gun rights voting record. (Dec 2003)
Ban gun registration & trigger lock law in Washington DC. (Mar 2007)

tazzygirl -> RE: Republicans will support gun control this time (12/18/2012 10:30:03 PM)

And from what I am seeing tonight... Boehner will have to give on gun control too

And yet you can see NO grounds to give on this issue... none... no where.... at all.

Why should he/we? Because some idiots are invariably going to do something stupid?

and when those people ask on giving ground (as has been asked and demanded for decades) what is offered in return?

Typically what happens (and there is decades of precidence on this) is that what was asked for proves insufficient for the aims of crime prevention or atrocity abatement. Then what? Do the "askers" then say, "well, you know those Xs we asked be off the street, turns out the law's not working, so let's give that back to the people". NO. What happens is they return with, "Yeah those Xs weren't enough... all we're asking for (now) is Y. You still have Z... can't you give a little?

Never happens. It is a death by 1,000 cuts... many being hatchet wounds.

Miller doesn't really support any case: the ruling from that is so (borderline incoherent) fuzzy it can be taken any way that suits somebody. This is the whole "handling the second as gingerly as a rattlesnake you're trying to milk" thing a few posters have been talking about kicking in.

SimplyMichael -> RE: Republicans will support gun control this time (12/19/2012 7:14:20 AM)

No, it wasn't the clearest case but also was about a non military weapon and a careful reading clearly shows their decision hinged on that fact.

The reality is the 2nd amendment was meant as the final bastion against tyranny and the proof that power resided and and came from the people to the government.

That noble experiment is about to end.

Surely it ended long ago. Americans are as taxed and as regulated and on the consumer capitalist treadmill with everyone else. Guns are just a fetish that ignites the fantasy of freedom, which was never really there in the first place, given only the top 10% were allowed to vote in the new USA, there were more restrictions and less freedom in the new USA than in Canada in the late 18th century.

That's debatable, and continues being debated incessantly. One camp is that the population needed to be armed so that state militias could be formed, rather than states having their own independent armies unaffiliated to the federal government as a whole, while the other feels more that an armed population is necessary to prevent the evil federal government from ever imposing martial law. The Miller judgement refused to commit itself one way or the other, and so did nothing to resolve that debate.

Your assessment of the political landscape is as flawed as your views on guns.

There will be no tax breaks for the rich, the Bush"temporary" tax breaks will expire,President Obama is not horse trading here.

He has no need to.

Obama has a strong hand, i agree. But the house could block gun control and the dems are foaming at the.mouth.

And unlike banking reform, debt, and the like that are boring, people lap this shit up like candy. Its easy, its pointless, it cant be measured, the media eats it up, great visuals.

We will spend next year on gun control...

The "fiscal cliff" just got stale...lol.

The House(ie:House Republicans) have a much better understanding of the political climate than you do.
They will block sensible, comprehensive gun control legislation at their peril .

Have they ever struck you as a particularly brave, politically speaking, bunch of fellows ?

Uh, yes. Sorry, but them's the facts. Those are the two main reasons that are cited for the second amendment being added to the Constitution, and a big part of the reason the Miller judgement is so ambiguous is because it refuses to take one side or the other.

What you people fail to grasp is that the NRA unlike almost every.other.lobby group.is NOT an industry lobby, its money comes primarily from people, not corps. Money only buys votes, the NRA IS votes, so it has both.

I have never liked the NRA being myself quite liberal.

So yes, next year instead of looking at how the wealthy have fucked us firdt by stealing us blind, then getting us to tip them.for the service...we will be talking about gun control...

Enjoy.
