Having had my tubes tied, which failed dismally, plus the actual" surgical" concerns involved for women...... im gonna have to question that as being medically smart as a concept. but heh just as likely to happen as banning all guns

As soon as anti abortion activists sign legal papers saying how many babies they will adopt each year and an overide saying if there are too many unwanted babies, thry will adopt those too.

Till then, america needs more abortiond not less.

Status: offline 		For the record, religiously and morally I am opposed to abortion except in the case of rape, incest and if the mother's life is in danger.

That said, I do not believe that the government has the right to tell a woman what to do with her body.

Of course those that support abortion never seem to have an answer for women who have had multiple abortions as a form of birth control. Wouldnt the shot, or pills or whatever be cheaper?

Status: offline 		Pills or rubbers are definitely a better form of birth control than abortion. It is worth remembering, though, that a lot of the people who are opposed to the practice of abortion find any form of birth control (or, with distressing frequency, sex education) equally abhorrent.

Instead of physically assaulting every citizen, here's a radical thought: educate every citizen instead.

That's been a rather successful measure elsewhere, bringing birth rates way down, along with unplanned pregnancy, teen pregnancy, etc.

Mandatory vasectomies would make it very hard to argue against FGM, for instance, or for elective abortions; something about assigning the public the right to manage your body. Even hormonal contraceptives as mandatory has issues, seeing as that influences brain development. Plus the civil war you'd inevitably get on your hands would probably cause more problems than you're trying to solve in the first place.

Course, I'm assuming you're joking, but 't needed to be said.

While he's frothing somewhat, he does have a point.

I support the right of a woman to deny the use of her body as life support, much as I support the right of self determination of organ donation and the like, but it's a life lost as surely as any other when a termination is performed, and it should rightly be seen as every bit as sad as the death of someone older, unless you want to get into sorting lives and abandoning the principle of incommensurability. As such, the massacre in Connecticut was a fairly trivial thing, which doesn't diminish it, but merely recognizes that tragedy is part and parcel of human life and comes in packages large and small, some spread over time, some in the blink of an eye.

That's an important thing to understand to engage the anti-choice crowd on the right level: pro-choice is about rejecting utilitarian ethics, and embracing sovereignty of one's own body, with the unfortunate side effect that some lives will be lost because of it. Just as pro-guns is about rejecting utilitarian ethics, and embracing sovereignty of one's own life and respect for others' sovereignty, with the same and nearly as unfortunate side effect that some lives will be lost because of it.

It's about granting or seizing control over your life and liberty, in both cases.

Freedom is easily worth 3300 lives per day.

Same as anyone else: private citizens can deal with them, should the offense be such that one would bear a life sentence or execution for what one has done; otherwise, they live, by default, until such time as they run into complications from a termination, n'est-ce pas?

Incidentally, I think that was one of the funniest lines cut from Fight Club:
