Why should we,the public,accept those losses ?
How many deaths do you envision new regulations "causing" ?

Gun crime is going down but gun crime is still huge in the USA.

When confectionary can be banned for being dangerous to children, it is ironic the same country doesn't see gun crime and gun accidents which results in a couple of hundred child (under 11) deaths per year, as not being dangerous enough to ban guns.

OK The plastic toy hazard which hasn't killed a child yet, (I googled) is deemed more dangerous than guns which kill around 200 children (under 11) per year. That must be a world first.

The decline in firearm murders has not been a straight line. The peak in 1931 was almost as high as the peak in 1974 and in 1981. The nadir was reached in 1961. Thereafter it climbed sharply to the Reagan peak in 1981. It fell again in the late 80s and rose again in 1992 to match the top in 1981. If there is an inverse correlation we would have to see a graph for gun ownership over those same decades to make a judgment. Inferring causal or correlative relationships in dynamic social systems is fraught with uncertainty.

Status: offline 		Good. It's my view that the initiator of a thread should bear the responsibility to keep it on track and move it along. By throwing everything into a catch-all, that becomes impossible. For instance this consolidated thread has been dominated by a few posters from pp. 4-11. I'd prefer some kind of alternative discussion.

What I want to discuss: The NRA's Friday Press conference --- I see no point in putting in this catch all category. The old thread on this theme by slavemike, was locked.

I would also like to start a thread on the utility and upside of automatic, assault weapons that justifies their downside. How exactly does America benefit from distributing these weapons to the general population?

Status: offline 		Its pretty well established that crime and violence is closely correlated to youth and poverty. So rising and falling crimes rates used without also looking at the rise and fall of the peak of young men is meaningless for either side.

Even the people that agreed with him were tiring of his antics While it is true that many gun threads popped up in the wake of the Sandy Hook shooting, they were by different posters and many were from different angles. Not the same situation.

Where were you folks when that Brain dude was on his crusade?

Wishing they had a per day post limit.

Zimmerman got so bad that people were posting threads about how bad it was. And there were multiple parties involved, but yes, as here, there was one completely over the edge player.
