I think it does show a dissatisfaction with the way threads are moderated. Some are claiming this dissatisfaction is the reason many long-term posters have left the site. Butch

People leave sites for various reasons. I am sure some did leave for that reason... others left for other reasons. If you run a company, you listen to your employees, but you allow only so many changes. Make no mistake... this is a business. Legalities and such will rule out over wants and complaints every time.

That's it. There's no way on this planet that anybody could tell Me that they could have kept up with that thread as posts were coming in being a Mod. Granted, it's the extreme example, but it's valid. That thing I said to Orion about three worthwhile swats a year? Well, what a case in point. The thread is fifty-six pages long. Heaven knows how many posts crossed the line and had to be removed.

It was an absolute mess, for sure. So was the arpig/house of hannah one. They pulled and pulled and pulled for the few days it was up...its a wonder the servers didnt crash, posts were coming in so fast... most of which were in violation. I know many of those threads vanished.. in fact, I think they are all gone now from their "final" days. Because the foundation upon which any notion of BDSM community is built - the ability to express yourself in the way you see fit - is stomped on by clueless moderators with no idea of how a thriving community operates. This place is stale. Debate is stifled and one-true-wayism is shoved down the throats of anyone who dares to present an opinion contrary to the moderators' little net-friends. All of these idiotic suggestions will fail because they're founded upon the ludicrous idea that this current level of excessive moderation is wrong in its implementation, rather than acknowledging the simple reality that it's utterly misguided in intent.

Make no mistake, CM is not a business. It is an online community. An online community is a huge organism with perhaps, or perhaps not, a business root. CM now has a membership/advertising business root, but did not originate that way for a long long time. Even its current business invention, remains extremely distant from the matters and means of discussion forums. The accountability flow chart, linking volunteer moderators way back to owners, is mystical, if it exists at all. The same can be said of the vetting process for moderators. If there were a link, it would raise home sweatshop questions under the US Fair Labor Standards Act, whether unpaid workers can serve profit-making owners. The concept of an online community presumably gets organisms like CM around this. US Supreme Court has never ruled on it. Without a governing board, the way you determine what does drives a particular organism, CM for instance, is to watch how it reacts over time. Then we clearly see that CM is driven very little by legalities or rules at all. It tends to be very lax about even its own rules. Especially when enforcing them would hamper whole sections of its membership/advertising audience. Examples abound of laxity on its own rules for the sake of membership. One of the easiest to understand is the conflict between the red banner across the top of the CM mail page and the frequent threads on findommes. The banner says never send payments to other members. Simultaneously, the findomme thread functions as a thinly veiled advertisement that findommes are well and functioning on CM. We are members of this decentralized asylum. And perhaps fitting that one of our most active participants, jokingly subtitles herself as the nurse name from One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Peace be with you.
