I often see gun owners... legal ones... talk about how they are law abiding citizens. On that front, I dont foresee a problem. Unless they now want to lose that status. And that is up to them. This is where the buy back comes into play. Will it get rid of all the guns on her list? Nope. And not all of them HAVE to go. There are exceptions on that list. This isnt like banning all guns completely.. or all handguns in DC. This was actually covered by the Supreme Court and, in my opinion, would pass a challenge before them. quote:
Across the country, communities have held gun buy back programs in the wake of the Connecticut tragedy. Los Angeles recently collected 2,037 guns, including a grenade launcher. Buchanan and a group of volunteers are putting together Dallas' first since the tragedy, which is designed for gun owners who no longer want weapons but don't know what to do with them. "We need to make communities and families safer and we try to do it one gun at a time," he said. It's scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19 outside The Stew Pot at 1822 Young Street. Organizers will pay $50 cash for working handguns and rifles and $200 for semi-automatic assault rifles. http://www.wfaa.com/news/local/dallas/Dallas-church-organizing-another-gun-buy-back-program-185494592.html quote:
When Los Angeles police moved up their annual Citywide Gun Buyback program to this week, they collected an arsenal that included 75 assault weapons, 698 rifles, 363 shotguns, 901 handguns and — more surprisingly — two rocket launchers. Police said the people who brought in the weapons told police that they came from family members who served in the military and no longer wanted rocket launchers in their homes, the Times reported. As it turns out, these were not the first launchers to turn up at a gun buyback. Last May, when the event was timed for Mother's Day, one of these large firearms surfaced in Los Angeles. Most people received grocery store gift cards for turning in weapons — up to $200 per firearm, depending on the type. http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/12/28/16221808-rocket-launchers-surface-during-los-angeles-guns-buyback?lite They do work.
