There is the US Federal budget. Tell me.... how would you determine what to cut and why?

Well, since your Messiah likes "fairness" so much...I would determine what to cut based upon it's percentage of the U.S. Federal budget. Why? Because that's the fairest (non-political) way to do it.

DomKen there would never be deficit spending or a need for it if a tax was authorized... or tax in conjunction with war bonds for instance...before a war was authorized. This could be done almost immediately with emergency sessions. But it would hold our congress directly responsible for each and every war along with the cost. The public would then decide directly through their votes if the war is to be continued.

So, you're saying the President will have to wait for Congress to fund military action before the President can order military action that doesn't require Congressional approval to start? How the fuck does that work? lol

Here is how it works... the President would call an emergency session for tax authorization...This could be done in 24 hours. If in the balanced budget there were a contingency fund for emergency immediate military response then even the first 24 hours would be covered...how is that?

Now if he cannot get approval to pay for a war...then no war...and that is as it should be.

Oooh.... So you want me to produce links and references where you provided none.

Oh dear... Grasping at straws.

Bless your soul. Better luck next time eh!

Emergency session = Congressional Approval prior to military action.

"Contingency Fund" = yet another pot o' money to raid.

Can you not read...oh well..see that little line under some numbers ...click them...oh and look at the pictures too.

But you see if inside a mandatory balanced budget it makes no difference. Without congress funding authorization through direct tax and bonds then there is no war when the contingency fund runs out.

These simple provisions will give the American public more control over these ongoing changing wars because every year the adjusted tax funding will have to be approved by a congress whose reelection depends on them matching their voters wishes.

Oh and by the way...not JUST congressional approval but a congressionally approved funding...two different things in my mind.

Are you talking about an equal percentage across the board?

lets say.. 10% to each part of the budget?

Some excellent ideas....

Aylee.. way to post, girl!

But, for all of you who made suggestions.. and some are thought provoking, indeed... what do we do with the sudden unemployment numbers? Im not suggesting that be a reason now to make some o fthe suggested cuts. Just curious as to what do we then do with unemployment suddenly rising?

I believe there will have to be some unemployment if cuts are made. If we had a competent congress the changes could be made in phases that would allow a more gradual problem. If our deficit is brought under control, no matter how it is done, I believe the private sector business would bloom and more than make up for the jobs lost. Hopefully there could be some cooperation in training and job placement.

Oh fuck... fair enough.

I'll have a slice of that.

Happy new year to you Butch.

jlf1961 -> RE: US federal budget (1/6/2013 11:52:33 AM)

You want the budget balanced? Would you like a couple of trillion in budget surplus.

The solution is simple.

Tax every woman with an income of over $75000 five dollars for every pair of shoes they own and $5 for every article of clothing.

kdsub -> RE: US federal budget (1/6/2013 11:54:37 AM)

lol..And you to...and here is to a future where we can agree on a thread and give some other poor slob the business.

And tax every man $5 per tool they never use and $1 each for controllers they can't figure out how to use.

And yet there are many who want to cut the social programs that would support those who would be unemployed through no fault of their own.

How would you address that?
