We are speaking about those who lose their jobs as a result of downsizing the different departments. Pink slips are eligible for unemployment.. even at the federal level.. along with a host of other services.

"It will cost <$1T." Just as in my city government when money is used up for a designated purpose that is it. Now if they want to re-appropriate money...otherwise move it around by priority ok. If critical expenditures such as fire or police need more money it can be taken from other parts of the budget or temporarily borrowed but this borrowed money would HAVE to be accounted for in the next budget cycle. Limits are set to the amount borrowed so it does not continue to grow from budget cycle to cycle... It works just fine even if now and then projects or wage increases need to be pushed off to the next cycle. But i also agree a balanced budget amendment has little change of becoming a reality soon. But we are talking proposed long term solutions not if our dumb assed congress of today will implement them. Butch

tazzy I think it has been shown that when deficit worries recede jobs and business pick up...at least that is the hope. Nothing is written in stone that’s for sure. Butch

I must add too... When I say a balanced budget amendment I am not necessarily talking about large cuts. There is no reason the time may come when taxes can reasonably be raised if a balanced budget is passed. If people see a way to pay our bills without continually adding new ones they may be more willing to raise taxes. Otherwise I am not talking necessarily a Republican view of a balanced budget but a reasonable bipartisan one. Butch

Having a balanced budget will also allow people to directly vote on new entitlements by giving permissions through their vote to raise taxes to accommodate them... and keep or remove them through funding. Butch

Butch Problem is... we are now talking about cutting back the hung contract areas especially defense/military/TSA/Homeland Security. I am not debating the needs for those cuts. I am simply asking, with that large a work force out of work, plus the cuts in contracts hitting the private sector, (there will be even more cuts in those jobs) how do we take care of all these people?

Most I believe just want a responsible government that can control their spending and if they see it being mandatory they will open their wallets for progress. Now they see no end to spending and war as far as that goes. That is why i like the war tax idea. Butch

Butch The United States spends 58% of the total amount spent for defense by all countries on the planet. What I wan to know is, who in the fuck do we need all that to defend against?
