The Tories said Labour had presided over a decade of spiralling violence.

In the decade following the party's election in 1997, the number of recorded violent attacks soared by 77 per cent to 1.158million - or more than two every minute.

The figures, compiled from reports released by the European Commission and United Nations, also show:

The UK has the second highest overall crime rate in the EU.

It has a higher homicide rate than most of our western European neighbours, including France, Germany, Italy and Spain.

The UK has the fifth highest robbery rate in the EU.

It has the fourth highest burglary rate and the highest absolute number of burglaries in the EU, with double the number of offences than recorded in Germany and France.

But it is the naming of Britain as the most violent country in the EU that is most shocking. The analysis is based on the number of crimes per 100,000 residents.

In the UK, there are 2,034 offences per 100,000 people, way ahead of second-placed Austria with a rate of 1,677.

The U.S. has a violence rate of 466 crimes per 100,000 residents, Canada 935, Australia 92 and South Africa 1,609.

Man talk about the hall of shame! Over 4 times the violent crimes than the gun laden united states!

That 4 times the likelihood of getting robbed, beat up and maimed than if you live in the US.

Not sure what the solution is for this.

They banned guns and have cameras up on what seems like nearly every corner but cannot seem to nip crime in the butt.

Lets get to the bottom of this, how can this be possible.

There has to be something they missed or forgot to ban?

it takes time to compile all that data and get it published, so it is as up to date as I could find.

However if you have more recent live and up to the microsecond numbers that you would consider RIGHT I am sure everyone would love to see them.

They were all XLS files I downloaded from the UN and the two links given and are the crime figures..... for the UK from the Home officeIf you download the xls files you will see.
But you keep believing your "daily mail" bullshit.

Lucy violent crime per 100,000 in the US in 2011 according to the FBI was 386.3...what was the rate in the UK?

"Overview
■In 2011, an estimated 1,203,564 violent crimes occurred nationwide, a decrease of 3.8 percent from the 2010 estimate.
■When considering 5- and 10-year trends, the 2011 estimated violent crime total was 15.4 percent below the 2007 level and 15.5 percent below the 2002 level.
■There were an estimated 386.3 violent crimes per 100,000 inhabitants in 2011."

when you consider violent crimes in the UK are counted differently to the US
please come back to me your own figures once you have counted each section together.
I do not deny that the UK has a lot of violent crime, however, I DO have an issue when people spread blatant lies and misinformation so bloody blatantly without responding to it WITH actual data from the ONLY source that matters in the UK, AND one that the FBI CDC and Other countries USE to make up their info.

violent crime is composed of four offenses: murder and nonnegligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault.
please look at the data given in the offences snapshot.. for all the data used to compile the UK data

Violent crimes in the US is not the same as Violent Crimes in the UK.

The reported US violent crime rate includes only Aggravated Assault, whereas the Canadian violent crime rate includes all categories of assault, including the much-more-numerous Assault level 1 (i.e., assault not using a weapon and not resulting in serious bodily harm).[34][35] A Canadian government study concluded that direct comparison of the 2 countries' violent crime totals or rates was "inappropriate".[46]

United Kingdom

Violent crime rates in the UK
Includes all violence against the person, sexual offences, and robbery as violent crime.[8]

The United States Department of Justice Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) counts five categories of crime as violent crimes: murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, and simple assault.

International comparison

The manner in which America's crime rate compared to other countries of similar wealth and development depends on the nature of the crime used in the comparison.[31] Overall crime statistic comparisons are difficult to conduct, as the definition of crimes significant enough to be published in annual reports varies across countries. Thus an agency in a foreign country may include crimes in its annual reports which the United States omits.

So you are saying that you cannot post a per 100,00 violent crime link for the UK

Sounds like RO got schooled...again....by the ladies.

Is this more gun-nut Bulldroppings in some pathetic way to show that the US is some how less violent than any other civilized, industrial country in the world with a very large population? Since the two countries share only a sliver of things in common with each other; should we not compare England with a country closer to them?

so "in substance" what do you think is different between the two that will make some grand slam better showing for the most gun free violent country in the world?

Looks close enough to me.
