farglebargle -> How about Mandatory Drug Testing for Gun Licenses? (1/18/2013 4:16:08 AM)

If you need to pass a drug test to receive a benefit like food stamps, shouldn't you have to pass a drug test to receive a benefit which could be used to kill someone?

Real0ne -> RE: How about Mandatory Drug Testing for Gun Licenses? (1/18/2013 4:35:29 AM)

benefit?

which "trust" are you talking about?

and how does a "natural right" of "self protection" fit into this "benefit" picture of yours?

Is travel a "benefit" too?

So lets start by your establishing it is a "benefit"

and if you get that far, then lets examine who precisely the beneficiaries are of your presently presumed trust.

farglebargle -> RE: How about Mandatory Drug Testing for Gun Licenses? (1/18/2013 4:49:07 AM)

Benefit == LICENSE to own a handgun, etc.

DarkSteven -> RE: How about Mandatory Drug Testing for Gun Licenses? (1/18/2013 5:30:33 AM)

I can see the logic.

But out of all the people who've obtained guns legally, how many were drug users that have committed crimes with them? The mass murderers IIRC have not been druggies. The standard stereotype of the drug-addled criminal who has a crime spree - I assume those guns were obtained illegally.

I'm not saying the idea is a bad one, but I dunno if it would accomplish anything.

Moonhead -> RE: How about Mandatory Drug Testing for Gun Licenses? (1/18/2013 5:33:38 AM)

I'm with Steven on that. Screening for mental health and criminal records would be a lot more useful than drug testing, however amusing the spectacle of NRA paranoiacs having to pee in a cup when they're out panic buying after a mass murder might prove...

How about we just do away with food stamps? I see them mentioned nowhere in the Bill Of RIGHTS.

Good idea but the NRA would claim it violate gun owners second admendment rights.

Moonhead -> RE: How about Mandatory Drug Testing for Gun Licenses? (1/18/2013 6:41:49 AM)

The NRA claim that politicians they don't like getting elected violates gun owners' second amendment rights, so who gives a fuck what they think?

Maybe more than a drug test may be needed?

"Promote the general welfare" means "handouts" but "shall not be infringed" does not mean "shall not be infringed".

Thanks for clearing that up.

I think it would count as promoting the general welfare if these people had removed their attackers from the gene pool.

Woman attacked and thrown on subway tracks
Woman with child stabbed inside Bed Bath & Beyond
Woman's face slashed in attack at Fayette Mall
Dallas store clerk beaten with hammers

Amusing, but predictably ignorant.

Disarming and pacifying a large, armed, and resistant populace is no quick and easy business.

Huh? You're either hungry or not paying attention. We're talking about guns, not food stamps [8|]

My sincere apology to you, LizDeluxe. It was me not paying attention when the OP mentioned food stamps

papassion -> RE: How about Mandatory Drug Testing for Gun Licenses? (1/18/2013 10:08:04 AM)

Surely you are not stupid enough to think "promote the general welfare" refers to the welfare government programs we have today. A little reading will inform you that welfare, the government giving people money for doing nothing, did not exist when the constitution was written.
