In the Roman Empire, the first emperor Augustus provided the 'congiaria' or corn dole for citizens who could not afford to buy food

"Corn Dole"? Really?

Are you so totally unaware of history as to not realize that the ancient Romans never saw corn and therefore could have had no word for it?

"congiaria" is a word that referrs to types of grain does not mean corn as we know it. Again if you have some problem with this take it up with Augustus, not me, I am only quoting him.[sm=rolleyes.gif]

From the Oxford Dictionary
Definition of corn
noun
[mass noun]
1British the chief cereal crop of a district, especially (in England) wheat or (in Scotland) oats: fields of corn

Corn originated in the Americas and did not exist in the old world prior to the Spanish explorations just after the voyages of Columbus.
To say that any latin word spoken by Augustus means 'corn' shows a severe lack of knowledge of the era.

I thought you had multiple graduate degrees. What the hell are they IN?
Wooden sword manufacture and fantasy literature?

Shall not be infringed". What part of that do you not understand? If we let them take out guns we deserve what happens next.

A Zero murder by gun rate more than likely.[:)]

Not only absurd but in the hope of getting rid of gun murders are you really willing to dismantle the Constitution?
When you say we can just throw out the second lets get rid of that pesky freedom of religion thing, and getting warrents is such a pain. By the way would you be happier if they were shoved out a window?

No, that's in case it's not a deer. [:D]

Seriously though, as far as handguns are concerned, NY cops carry sidearms with 15-round mags. They didn't used to, and they complained because the thugs had them out-gunned. Why put a citizen at the same disadvantage?

Yes, and that's obviously what you care most about. Assault, rape, and homicide by other means, not so much. After all, things are so much more "civilized" when citizens are denied an effective means of defending themselves, right?

K.

You are correct..and that some 43,000 people in the US are killed by motor vehicles..lets get them off the street...I always wanted to learn to ride a horse anyway and think of the jobs it will create..just in street cleaners alone. A true civilized society. But no body touchs my coffee......

Because part of the cops' job description is that they're expected to take part in shootouts with the thugs, whereas citizens aren't obliged to do that, unless they happen to be Charles bronson in a crappy film?

That's very true. Citizens who are all alone with no radio communications or bulletproof vests have the option of allowing themselves to be assaulted, raped, or killed. After all, things are so much more civilized that way. I've always said, "Why can't we be more like the British?"

How's a fifteen shot magazine any better than the six bullets in a revolver in that case?

If GE dont scrap it, and since it is experimental it falls into an NFA loophole possibly, but some brilliant engineer in their weapons division designed and built a minigun style weapon that fires the 50cal machine gun round at a very leisurely 7500 rounds a minute...

so naturally I WANT ONE

You can cite a few home invasions where helpless unarmed Brits have been assaulted raped or killed by tooled up home invaders then, can you?

If you need to pass a drug test to receive a benefit like food stamps, shouldn't you have to pass a drug test to receive a benefit which could be used to kill someone?

Be careful what you wish for. Drug tests not only drain tax payer money. But some politician twiddling his thumbs in DC may decide, "hell, why only foodstamps and guns? why don't we drug test for driving? why don't we drug test for owning a business? why don't we drug test for anything we can drug test for? It gets to be a bit absurd and ridiculous. IMO

Actually, with the number of drunk driving deaths, they'd be better off requiring a breathalyzer in every car.

Something tells me you wouldn't feel safe if you have ICBM with 20 warheads ready to launch in your back yard.
