Perhaps the best person to clarify the BDSM lifestyle would have been Dr. Alfred Kinsey who first began researching sexual proclivities back during the 1950s, when almost everything beyond procreational sex, in the missionary position, was, widely, considered to be obscene. His research and experiments were among the earliest revelations of the enormous variations you've encountered and discussed here. I think he found that many practitioner's disgust with almost any other kink, but their own, is, very likely, the reason why the BDSM community has never been able to achieve the unanimity and common cause that permitted the wider vanilla community to codify and legislate tame acceptable sexual behaviour and limits that are observed by the widest collective mentality, in principle, at least, whatever really goes on behind closed doors? So I suspect that the same human nature, which insures that our deviant practices can never be eradicated, no matter how far they are driven underground, will also prevent such deviance from ever going mainstream. Perhaps, as it goes in politics, business, and many other endeavors, the unspoken watchword may be "Do as we say, but not as we do!"[/b]
