Status: offline 		I have dyslexia and learned to adapt to it long before finding out I was different. Because I started reading around age 4 I had time to mask any issues before I got to the school system. But that brought on different issues. People WILL mock you. They do it to make themselves feel better. I guess I must have this other thing dyspraxia, because there are words that I KNOW how to spell, I can say them if I take it tiny bite at a time if I put all my will into it, but once I try to say them like a normal person, phhht. Ham bur ger will always come out of my mouth han ga ber, and forget about saying words like cinnamon, spaghetti, ect. Worse.. it gets more difficult as I age.

The only thing you can do is wear a tough shell. People are mean. They will dismiss someone based on their limited glimpse of the person. Those people are not the ones with which I associate. I try not to point out others lack of writing skills, mostly because I have to work so hard on mine. But it does bother me when people don't try.

Status: offline 		It was interesting to watch you master the paragraph issue over the course of this thread. If anyone else is wondering, you get the spacing by hitting Enter two times, not once.

I do notice spelling, but not in your posts, and would not have guessed you were dyslexic.

Michael's post was kind and instructive, but I had to double check myself for the correct spelling of mammal. I almost never mention spelling unless someone misspells a correction directed at someone else.

There is also a world of difference in an occasional error vs someone who obviously puts no care into their posts. If I know English is the not poster's primary language, they get a pass from me.

It's really difficult for me to get past some words that are spelled differently across the pond. I know it's right over there, just sticks out to me and seems so out of place.

ETA: Maria, I am always editing and sometimes reediting posts several times because of typos and spelling errors. Hell because after I post something I read and and go huh...that doesn't make sense. I would blame it on the fact that I am always multi-tasking when online but eh... I don't need to make excuses. Neither do you.

We have to remember that a) not everyone speaks/writes perfect English, b) we have different levels of education, and c) it's a fucking forum. Christ, I came here to perv and be perved, and laugh a little. If I wanna learn the rules of the Queen's English, I'll troll the Oxford English dictionary website.

As far as the sanctimonious members of the CCC having an issue with my trying to be helpful; I suggest a little face time in the mirror. If that doesn't work, remember that I stopped caring what you think about me long ago.

mnottertail, you are hilarious I will do my maths/math on your million dollar question !!

theshytype, English spelling was invented to be difficult. We rarely spell things phonetically and I think we got that from the French!
We say 'colour' and you say 'color' even though we don't pronounce the 'u'. My spell check is telling me that the English version is wrong. I think more and more English people are accepting American spelling in the English language but the older generation believe their language is being bastardized. In this sense I'm glad the world is getting smaller. Phonetic spelling makes life so much easier!

Missokyst, Dyspraxia is very common in people with Dyslexia and just like Dyslexia it comes in varying degrees. I for example have very poor coordination skills. I was ten before they took the stabilizers off my bike!. I can't do aerobics classes because I find it impossible to follow the movement of the instructor if she is facing me!

Kalikshama, I'm a quick learner and perhaps the ludicrousness of my paragraph problem will be permanently overcome from the result of this thread. I sincerely hope so but please don't hold it against me if it doesn't!

DaddySatyr, thanks for your advice. I really didn't notice a spelling mistake but thats the great thing about chatting to me in text!

hlen5, When ever I have difficulty comprehending what someone is saying in a post because of grammatical or spelling error, I tend to think its me and not them... laughs!

I value your contributions to these boards.  And the chance to prev
your avatar.  So I will offer these thoughts in return and hope that you
find them to be of some worth.

Because they cover two different but related topics I will put them into
separate paragraphs.

David Ogilvy, the great advertising writer made a point in his book that
you should always attempt to limit a paragraph to three sentences.  This is
not always possible but it was his standard when trying to write effective
ad copy.  I have found it works as a general rule because it forces me to
write in focused thought groups, which is not the way I think.

I have been an instructor of technical subject matter and I have done technical
writing.  I tend to see many connections at once.  But the three sentence goal
helps me to communicate my thoughts in ways that others can follow. 

Spelling, I have a STRONG recommendation that you to try "tinyspell".  It is
a piece of freeware that comes with many language dictionaries.  It is tiny in
that is uses few resources and contains no bloatware or spyware. 

I have loaded it as a matter of course in every computer I build for myself and
for others for years.  It is an on the fly spell checker which you can configure to
suit yourself.  Everybody who I know who uses it loves it. 

I set it to load when I boot the computer and there is a small symbol in my
system tray.  The symbol changes color and a beep sounds when I misspell a
word.  I hit a key combination to pop up a recommended substitute list then
hit enter to make the substitution. 

You can configure your dictionary and set it to not work with certain programs
like WORD which have their own spell checkers.  But you are never without a
spell checker once you load "tinyspell".  It is here: http://tinyspell.numerit.com/

I hope you find these suggestions are helpful and you feel encouraged to contribute
more to these boards.  I look forward to reading your future posts.

Yes, I saw that crap yesterday. Considering that it came from somebody who was just lecturing the rest of us about how people are treated around here, I promise you that the word hypocrite crossed My mind more than once. I have no time, nor patience for anyone like that.

Same with me...lol...bet you could never tell...lol...I try to overcome the disability by keeping my comments short and to the point. I developed this dumbassed style of using " ... "constantly. It seems to help me get my ideas from my hard head to paper or screen.

Very seldom if ever will you see a post from me that is not edited...more than once. That is because often I cannot even see my mistakes when I re-read before posting or right after posting. Only after leaving the thread then coming back to it can i see them.

I think you are too hard on yourself. I never have a problem understanding your posts. And anyway it is the ideas that count...If someone can't get past your or my grammar then they are not worth talking at or to.

hlen the problem is some severely dyslexic cannot even tell they are spelling wrong ...using words wrong...transposing letters... I cannot for the life of me type from...even concentrating...every time it comes out form. Just a guess but I think half the words i type have letters transposed.

When you are a kid and trying to learn how to spell and letters just keep coming out backwards or wrong many, me included, just sort of give up at the worst or fall behind at the best.

So I guess many just either post looking like they don’t care or not post at all…Myself I don’t care what others think of my spelling…I just hope I am able to get my ideas over to them.
