maleplaything -> Does cross dressing make me a cross dresser (6/20/2006 4:08:47 AM)

Stupid question? Bear with me. i love to wear satin, and as my profile says i wear satin panties all the time. i also wear stockings or hold ups. When i can i also wear satin outerwear - shirt/blouse trousers etc. The point is i don't do this 'cos i want to look like a woman, i do it becasue i love the feel of the material. In the past i have been put in the position of being made to wear female underwear as part of a scene, and that's fine, but if i have the choice, it's always satin i go for -other materials (eg cotton panties) just don't do it for me. If i wear a dress or skirt (satin of course) it's the way it feels, hangs and moves that i enjoy. not the fact that i might look 'Female'. So, am i a cross dresser, or just someone who enjoys dressing.

what does it matter what you are called

bandit25 -> RE: Does cross dressing make me a cross dresser (6/20/2006 4:12:31 AM)

I'm with dark.  What difference does it make?  If you are a cross dresser, are you going to stop wearing what feels good to you?

There are Dom/mes that like to dress in leather - does that really make them a Dom/me, or just someone who prefers or enjoys the feeling of leather?

Yes, you're a cross-dresser.

sabswife -> RE: Does cross dressing make me a cross dresser (6/20/2006 4:20:45 AM)

i think it makes you a cross dresser, but really like was said.. who cares?  if you like it you like it, why label it?

kickinchick -> RE: Does cross dressing make me a cross dresser (6/20/2006 4:23:43 AM)

I don't think so.
I think you just have a fetish for panties and satin things on you that make you feel sexy.
Atleast I hope so.....crosses fingers and winks.

feastie -> RE: Does cross dressing make me a cross dresser (6/20/2006 4:25:36 AM)

You can purchase silk boxers.  Yet you're wearing silk panties.  What do you think?

Sab -> RE: Does cross dressing make me a cross dresser (6/20/2006 4:31:12 AM)

I would say, with a certain amount of complete certainty that you are a X-man ;)

 Hello maleplaything,

You like satin...... maybe you have a satin fetish...lol.

In my dictionary, crossdressing was defined as....*the wearing of clothes typical of the opposite gender*.......If you go by that definition and you wear stockings or hold-ups..I guess you're a crossdresser.

I might be a crossdresser too......I wear trousers almost exclusively...lol.

Yes. Cross Dressing is the act of wearing clothing commonly associated with another gender within a particular society. You do that; you're a crossdresser. The reasons behind the dressing do not matter. It is the wearing of the clothing that makes someone a cross dresser, not the motives.

I disagree entirely - I know men who wear pantyhose, not for any fetish, but in a job where they are on their feet all day find it gives them support - hardly a crossdresser.  Boxers and jockeys wear silks, not because they are femanine, but because they quickly shed persperation and excess weight isn't carried - again, hardly crossdressing.

Crossdressing is to do with wanting to dress as the opposite agender

Crossdressing is the act of crossdressing.  Wanting or not wanting to do it, or doing it for comfort rather than sexual pleasure, does not change the fact that the person is *crossdressing*.

Example:  I crossdress because I love satin and I cant find it in men's clothing.

I crossdress because pantyhose help give my legs the support I need standing at work all day.

I crossdress because my Mistress likes to see me that way.

no matter why...he IS a person who cross dresses, thereby making him a crossdresser, though not necessarily a fetishist.

Brosco -> RE: Does cross dressing make me a cross dresser (6/20/2006 5:47:28 AM)

OK...  i will assume we are debating our own definitions here, as apposed to some fact laid down in some Crossdressing Dressing for Dummies manual.

To me Crossdressing dressing implies Crossing the gender norms....  and I say norms, because to my knowledge, there also isn't any rule what a male or female should dress.

If a man wears panty hose under his overalls for support with no open display  ...  how is that crossdressing?

If weraing satin or silk is crossdressing, why aren't boxers and jockeys labled as crossdressers?

BTW I have some silk business shirts that I love - am I a cross dresser too in your eyes?

Brosco, did you miss the part of the statement where he said he wore dresses?

The trouble here seems to be that the OP is having issues with the label of crossdresser and the connotations it brings.

The denotation of a person who wears clothing commonly associated with the opposite gender, has been more than met when the man discusses wearing stockings panties and dresses.
The trouble comes in when people have the connotation in their head that being a crossdresser means more than simply dressing in clothing gennerally associated with the opposite gender.

Yes I did...  could you point it out to me please?

Last line of the OP

"If i wear a dress or skirt (satin of course) it's the way it feels, hangs and moves that i enjoy. not the fact that i might look 'Female'. So, am i a cross dresser, or just someone who enjoys dressing. "

ya know, I lived in asia for 15 years...  at home I used to wear a sari - a skirt in western terms.  Nothing to do with crossdressing, just very practical because it was cooler.   Another wears satin because it pleases... big deal.

No.  Those are men's shirts. Being silk doesnt make them female clothing.

If you wore a bra, panties or a dress.  Im going to go out on a limb and say you'd be a crossdresser.

Archer -> RE: Does cross dressing make me a cross dresser (6/20/2006 6:16:57 AM)

Social conventions in SE Asia and in the US are very different as far as clothing. I have no issue with crossdressers at all I have friends who do it and they remain dear friends. The fact remains social convention in Western cuture permits only kilts as a form of masculine skirts, and dresses, are considered strictly a women's wear item.

I could care less what someone chooses to wear personally but my opinion does not make sociallay associated with a specific gender.

Samoan skirts for men are not cross dressing because of the simple fact that they are socially not associated with gender in that social context. I don't know of a single western culture society where a satin dress is not associated with female only clothing, nor do I know of one where panties are not considered the same.
Knowing that it is a social convention and agreeing that the social convention are good and or correct are two vastly diferent things.

You can disagree with the convention all you wish but your disagreement with it does not change the convention.
The rule is an unwritten one so no it can't be cited by book, chapter, page, line, but it does exist. You can disagree with the rule but to try to deny it's existance is delussional.

Where the line gets drawn, I'm not a firm on as some others here have been. The material is not what makes the line for me it is the design, panties designed for women in satin vs mens briefs designed for men in satin, or mens boxers in satin certainly cross the line for me into crossdressing, and dresses as opposed to a suit in satin certainly cross the line for me. Stockings or pantyhose when worn for utilitarian purposes do not cross the line for me.
Wearing a samoan mens skirt in context wouldn't cross the line, wearing it out of context might.
