ORIGINAL: Hillwilliam quote:
ORIGINAL: tazzygirl I was basing it upon my reference to a 14 year old being left home alone and how incredibly stupid it was for any parent in this day and age to do so. But more stupid back when I was 14 and home alone. (although, I was an all-conference wrestler who was really handy with handguns, rifle and shotgun and I had a big assed shepherd with me so maybe it wasn't such a bad idea.) Violent crime whe I was 14... 1,208,030 Violent crime now.... 1,203,564 Murder back then.... 21,460 Murder now ....14,612 Forcible rape then.... 76,390 Now.... 83,425 Robbery then... 480,700 Now... 354,396 Aggravated assault then... 629,480 Now.... 751,131 You are so right! Its much much much safer now! Forget I said anything! The mother was completely right to feel her children were absolutely safe to be left alone! So everything down per capita except rape. Wanna bet that last is due to (thank goodness) better reporting. Still, did people feel safer when you were 14 or now? (I'm not talking you personally because face it, all teenagers are bulletproof and 10 feet tall anyway. Just ask em.) Why are people so much more scared these days even though we are statistically safer? Crime is down but people are scared shitless.
