I'm always curious when people say that.

Ever since my mother told me, "EVERY day is Children's Day."

Why would you want your partner, bf, or husband to get you something or be romantic because he felt "obligated" to. I want him to do those things because he wants to do those things. Not because it's expected of him.

I love presents but I would rather not do anything on Vday and get a random gift on some random day.

MissAsylum -> RE: Valentine's Day (2/7/2013 6:35:59 AM)

The only reason my fiance and I go out on valentine's day is that places seem to have deals on food.

We have no shame about kissing at Qdoba (mexican) for a free entree.

EsotericLady -> RE: Valentine's Day (2/7/2013 8:03:11 AM)

I haven't seen it...probably because the minute I suspect it's yet another one of THEIR commercials, I put the remote on mute and get something to drink! HA!

I actually have a couple of bears that size.

If I hear "HE WENT TO JARED" on T.V. just ONE MORE TIME>>>>>>GRRRRRRR!!! LOL
What? You don't like the one where the guy proposes on the airplane and the attendant says, "Please return your fiancee to her original upright position"?

I must post this because it makes me laugh:

Diamond Commercial

ShaharThorne -> RE: Valentine's Day (2/7/2013 8:37:33 AM)

I don't expect anything this year. Just need to finish up my box of Ghirardelli squares and I will be happy.

Now, if you come down here with some ribeye steaks and baked potatoes, I would be happy.

Because some of us, though we work hard at our relationships every day, like something special.
Also...when people say that, it kind of sounds like they're putting down people who enjoy holidays, and saying that what we have isn't quite as special as what you have. Which may or may not be the case. One thing though, anytime you talk about having a holiday, someone, somewhere, will say that they don't "need or want it" because every day is a special day. It's kind of a wet blanket thing to say.

THAT is what YOU choose to read into what I said.
If that is what I wanted to say, eh...
I would have said it.
I'm not shy.
I don't mince words.

I purposely posted "I" in my post because I was talking about ME.
And yes, I did post "you" in part of it but it was / is a generic you not directed at anyone, that you also includes me. *shrugs*

ETA: I don't celebrate holidays. Period.
I haven't for years that is my personal choice.

I'm honestly not sure what you mean by "wet blanket thing to say."

cordeliasub -> RE: Valentine's Day (2/7/2013 9:25:30 AM)

I already got my V-day present. There was a singing Snoopy at Hallmark, and I bought it for ME.

Snoopy transcends all holidays [:D]

Notsweet -> RE: Valentine's Day (2/7/2013 9:26:01 AM)

Oh, come on, Lil Squaw. You know that things people say don't need "reading into" all the time. It's a bit of a put-down, whether you mean it to be or not. And I'm not exaggerating, every time people mention celebrating their birthday or Valentine's Day, someone says, "Oh, WE don't need that. We're special EVERY day." I'll bet if you go through any conversations here or anywhere about Valentine's Day, you'll see the same thing. And in fact, if you find one that doesn't, link me to it, and I'll buy lunch tomorrow! Deal? :D

TheLilSquaw -> RE: Valentine's Day (2/7/2013 9:40:35 AM)

You are reading into it what you assume I mean.
THAT is the fact.
I don't think I am better than anyone because I choose not to celebrate holidays.
I think it is what works for ME.
Just like not taking part in "organized" religion works for ME.
I don't care what other's mean when they make the statement.
They aren't me nor am I them.

You made a statement, I responded.

I think you are defensive when you don't need to be, at least in this situation.

Notsweet -> RE: Valentine's Day (2/7/2013 9:47:51 AM)

Hubby keeps complaining that they always show those Zales commercials right around this time. Which means he will go there for V day. *grins madly*

But luckily for me, he treats me wonderfully every day of the week.

Oh, good lord, Master and I think that "Open Heart" necklace is awful and we're sick of looking at it.

We're sappy and get into Valentine's day, but reserve the big celebration for our anniversary. We love celebrating our relationship every chance we get.

needlesandpins -> RE: Valentine's Day (2/7/2013 12:20:36 PM)

i've never been one for going over board on valentine's, however it would have been nice if in the past my ex had made an effort in some form. after cheating on me, and me being stupid enough to take him back, we were spending some time apart during the week while i was seeing if i could trust him again. that valentine's we were out at a shopping complex and went for something to eat. his idea of romance was to offer me him moving back in as a present [8|] i told him no. he didn't get it that that wasn't a fucking gift to offer in the first place, but most certainly not on his part. that was the only time that i got actual flower shop flowers instead of some from the local super market. now don't get me wrong; there is nothing wrong with flowers bought from anywhere, but for many years i only got anything if it came from the local super market, and flowers only if he's screwed up. it was the lack of effort, and thought that got to me more than anything else.

i really do love fresh flowers, and no-one ever buys them for me, but the best flower i have ever been given is straight across the room from me. i got home one day to find the postie had left a package for me over the gate. on opening i found a handmade black leather rose from a certain someone as an early birthday present [:D] for someone that professes to not be romantic, to have no intention of romance behind anything he does, the things he has done are actually the most romantic i've ever had. these things though have nothing to do with valentine's day.

i noticed that LW said that Kana asked her what she wanted for valentine's. that question at any time will always get the answer of 'nothing' from me. i don't want a gift because i asked for it. i only want a gift that you put some effort, and thought into for me because you wanted to.

Nelee -> RE: Valentine's Day (2/7/2013 1:13:53 PM)

I love Valentine's Day.

It's a day to get awesome dinner deals and it's a holiday dedicated to buying red and pink and white things and having chocolate half off.

So what if some people don't like it? Don't worry about them. Celebrating Valentine's Day doesn't lessen the fact that we can do cute things with our SOs or Dom/mes and Subs anytime we want. It's just a holiday. If others feel that it shouldn't be celebrated because it's a part of "organized religion" and an "obligation" and they feel better doing their own thing, it's whatever. I'll be here being cute as hell for the dinner deals and half-priced chocolate.

They can swerve.

Anyway, what I want for Valentine's Day? Hmm, a real dinner out (I've never eaten out at an actual restaurant before, hah), and wine. Good red wine.

OsideGirl -> RE: Valentine's Day (2/7/2013 1:43:15 PM)

My favorite one was:

Master bartered auto repair to a man that was a personal chef for one of the football players, to come and make us dinner at our house.

We had filet mignon with giant tiger prawns, grilled asparagus, and a Valrhona chocolate tart with raspberry sauce. It was amazing and romantic having a candlelight dinner in our own home.

Well, I would have to have it appraised and make sure they were real diamonds and not CZ. But if that proved true, then hell yea, head straight for my pooper!

lol If it cost a lot I would rather have the cash instead, I can do sooooooo much more with it.. I am a practical girl.. [;)]

HOWEVER. For $100, you can send a giant four and a half foot tall stuffed bear to your (so-called) beloved.

I think I'd rather send her a saucepan full of vomit to save her the trouble of chucking up her own guts.

Your master is a baller dude. Writing this down in my wishlist.

The only thing I actually asked for (for Valentine's Day) was a mic lol because mine is broken.
