Baroana -> Sorry, I just have to vent! (Warning: Weight Thread) (2/10/2013 5:44:12 PM)

Today a guy said to me "My ex-owner was a plump lady. She was 140 pounds."

I lost it. Long story short, he's blocked.

Really? 140 is plump? Sorry, I just can't accept that standard! A year ago I was 140, and I'm working on getting back down to that. I know it doesn't matter what others think, but it pisses me off anyway.

(For reference on what 140 looks like, see http://www.mybodygallery.com/)

Bonus question: why are men never "plump"?

tommonymous -> RE: Sorry, I just have to vent! (Warning: Weight Thread) (2/10/2013 5:49:58 PM)

His ex-owner was 140 lbs at what height?

I can't speak for anyone else, but I guess I just never think of a "polite" euphemism for overweight men. I tend to think of men as fat or not fat.

Here's another one: http://www.cockeyed.com/photos/bodies/heightweight.html

We're fat, lardasses, etc.

I used to have to buy "husky" sized pants as a kid. Hated it.

Unless you're 3 foot tall, 140 isn't plump.

Well I'm 5'2" if that helps you any. Currently (as in the photo you see here), I would be 140 if I lost 25 pounds. It just gets less plump as you go up in height from there.

breagha -> RE: Sorry, I just have to vent! (Warning: Weight Thread) (2/10/2013 5:56:15 PM)

Tommonymous is right... height does make a difference. unless his former is under 5 foot though... 140 isn't really plump at all.

i too am attempting to get back to my "pre baby" weight ( said baby is almost 8... and i'm almost there ) which is around 140. i am 5'6" and i think that is a healthy ( maybe even too thin ) weight for me to be at.

Baroana- i don't blame you for getting upset and blocking that person. obviously they have a slightly skewed outlook on what healthy weight and plump are. when i think plump i think about my gran... soft and huggable and "fluffy"

I think a lot of it has to do with people's insecurities and views of others. However, you are right I hear a lot more women called fat and ugly than I do men. Some people just focus on looks and looks alone, rather than the whole picture. In addition, some people are focused solely on numbers rather than body type and other factors.

For me I live a healthy lifestyle. I would much rather a man that was overweight, but was trying to live a healthy lifestyle and trying to get his weight in check, than a man who was skinny, but had no concept. It would just derail me and I don't think he could or would be supportive of what I was trying to achieve.

Bonus question: Because society views men much different than women. IMO

I don't think they even call them that anymore, do they?

Hated it! [8D]

Baroana, maybe he didn't know how much she weighed. A lot of men don't pay attention to numbers like that (with the exception of cup size), and maybe she didn't tell him the truth when he asked her.

In the Men's Body Building Bible, btw, it suggests to throw the scale away and use the mirror only, in order to measure progress. If you never get back to 140, but have Michelle Obama biceps, you'll be frikkin hot, in my book anyway. (Maybe insufficiently feminine in someone else's book, heh.)

Yeah, that's what I said!

I don't know, but it reminds me of that King of the Hill episode where Bobby became a runway model.

It's possible he didn't know, but 140 seems like a strange number to pull out of the air. Plus, when I started to flip out, he never backpedaled on the weight.

You are right that maybe she lied about it. But still......

Oh, and thank you re. the biceps. I've been working them hard, so hopefully one day they will emerge through the flab.

One thing that annoys me about my photos is how large my breasts always look on camera. It must have something to do with the roundness.

RedMagic1 -> RE: Sorry, I just have to vent! (Warning: Weight Thread) (2/10/2013 6:10:20 PM)

Maybe he was pro-ana.

sexyred1 -> RE: Sorry, I just have to vent! (Warning: Weight Thread) (2/10/2013 6:12:43 PM)

Plump is in the eye and perception of the beholder, so don't worry about it.

Most people have no clue about women's sizes or weight or how that is distributed.

I don't find 140 plump; I think it is quite normal.

SylvereApLeanan -> RE: Sorry, I just have to vent! (Warning: Weight Thread) (2/10/2013 6:23:29 PM)

I'm 5'3" and wear US size 10-M/L clothes. At 140 lbs, I'm definitely plump. Especially for my bone structure, which is tiny. To give some perspective, I've worn my great-grandfather's baby ring, which is a size 2, on my pinky finger since I was 15. My weight is mostly "mommy tummy" so I look heavier than I would if the weight was more evenly distributed. (Can I shift some of it up to my boobs? That would be great.) Maybe she carried all of her weight in one area like I do and seemed heavier than she really was?

My dear, size 10 is not plump, not on your worst day!!!!!!!!

Actually, it is when it's all flabby tummy and a double chin. If I weighed 140 and had the firmly toned dancer's body I had Before Children, I'd have another POV. I'll get back there eventually, but I'm a horrible procrastinator, so I don't exercise like I should.

Well if you have had a dancer's body, then you too might be seeing things from a different perspective than most of us. However, in my book, if you can fit into size 10 jeans, NO HAY PLUMPO.

HarryVanWinkle -> RE: Sorry, I just have to vent! (Warning: Weight Thread) (2/10/2013 6:40:15 PM)

140 lbs could be considered plump.

Of course, 4 foot 3' could be considered tall, also.
