LL, feel free to call me out by name, I hate passive aggressive bullshit it's not my style at all. I have volunteered for decades, I have owned dogs my entire life, I work in rescue as well, and currently share my home with 12 companion animals. Can you clarify how I am not educated about dogs? Oh right. Because I don't agree with your opinion on pit bulls. You really need to get a grip on taking everything so fucking personally.

ETA this. It's not fucking hard to google and find so much supporting evidence on this, and instead of attacking me and being overly sensitive, why not take the tons of websites to task that post all this info, it must be all lies and 'crap' as you say, so get to work fixing it then, because it's everywhere.....

Fatalities reported from 1988 through 2012

This list supplements information compiled by existing studies regarding the people killed by dogs in the United States.
Summary tables

The following table summarizes the number of people reported by news sources as killed in 1988 and 2005–2012 (as of August, 2012).
Dog bite-related fatalities in the United States Year Total # Most fatal attacks by # Second-most fatal attacks by
1988 1 Labrador Retriever (2) (100%) n/a
2001 3 Presa canario (1) (33.33%)

Pit bull (1) (33.33%)
Unknown strays (1) (33.33%)

2002 2 German Shepherd (1) (50%)

Rottweiler (1) (50%)

2003 8 Pit bull-type (4) (50%) n/a
2004 8 Pit bull/Labrador Retriever mix (4) (50%)
Mixed breed (3)
Pit bull-type (1) n/a
2005 29 Pit bull (12) (39%) Rottweiler (6) (21%)
2006 29 Pit bull (12) (40%) Rottweiler (9) (31%)
2007 34 Pit bull (15) (41%) Rottweiler (4) (12%)
2008 23 Pit bull (11) (43%) Husky (3) (13%)
2009 30 Pit bull (11) (32%) Rottweiler (4) (13%)
2010 33 Pit bull (22) (67%) Rottweiler (4) (12%)
2011 30 Pit bull or "Pit bull type" (21) (70%) Rottweiler (4) (13%)
2012 18 Pit bull or "Pit bull type" (11) (61%)

I already provided a link to an unbiased organization that actually goes out and INVISTIGATES dog attacks, not just quote the initial reports, and there investigations have shown that in the majority of cases, the breed of dog was misidentified.

Media, Myths & Politics
The problems with dog bite studies
2012 Priliminary Report
2011 Final report
2010 and 2009 final reports can be found here

So instead of quoting statistics that are biased, and actually come from a site that is run by a person with a known hatred for the breed, why not use your brain and do your own research.

As for pitts being misidentified. I have a coworker who was CONVINCED my dog is a pitt.

Well, he could be. Except for the length and structure of his tail. His fur is different. Um, his legs are way too long. His ears are too small. His body is too long and the wrong shape and his head isn't the right shape either.

In other words, he's a semi large dog therefore OHMYGODAFUCKINGPITTBULL!!

It wasn't passive aggressive bullshit, it was making sure there were no personal attacks. But yes, I was talking about you.

Why? You post a link to someone who has no scientific data to back up her claims, has an agenda, has been proven to be making false claims regularly and you failed to notice that her "source" of information was nothing more than media reports, lacking follow up to see if the media reports were correct.

I don't care how many companion animals you have or have always had. It doesn't make you an expert on pit bulls or any other dogs for that matter. It makes you a pet owner.

Working in rescue doesn't mean you are an expert either.

I'm not "sensitive", nor do I need to get a fucking grip.

You need to come to the realization that you haven't got a fucking clue what you are talking about when it comes to this breed of dog. You have fallen for the hype and the myths.

For the record, EVERY dog you take home from the shelter is unpredictable around other animals. You simply choose to believe they aren't, which is just another lack of knowledge.

Has it ever occurred to you that drug dealers choose dogs based on their appearance? A golden retriever can me made just as mean as a pit, but they will never look that way. Rotts and Dobies have that "look" as well.

It's really no secret that you are a bigot about a lot of things. You show it often when you open your mouth. That's the thing with bigots though, they most often are bigots because they are ignorant of the realities of what they are bigoted about.

I got bit by a dog, in 2009. It was a terrier about the size of a toaster. I think the incident illustrates the problem. He sank his teeth into my ankle. I looked down. He looked up. I said, "Let go." He did.

I had a bruise the size of a dime. About this I did nothing. I instead continued to make my point with his owner. About how disturbing it is to use an automobile horn TO TELL HIS CHILDREN THAT HE LOVES THEM whenever he leaves or returns to his home in one of the quietest neighborhoods in the United States.

Had a pit bull, or any large dog, done the same to me, I would have killed it. Probably via the Court. I don't put up with pieces being torn out of my body. I do not assume the dog will not do it again. And I don't blame the dead dog. I pity it.

A dog acts the way it's owner wants. Dogs are pack animals. FOLLOWERS. If a dog attacks, it is because the owner is aggressive. Whether or not the owner SEEMs to be. But it is the size of the dog, meaning : its' ability to do damage, that determines the seriousness with which I view the problem. This is why Dachshunds do not have a bad reputation and many breeds of greater size do.

For those in the dark about it, Dachshunds are an Egyptian breed. They originated to fill a specific purpose. Dachshund means Badger dog. These little guys are built to go down holes and drag the badger in there out, dead.

The Dachshund is among the most aggressive of all dogs. They are bred for it. They would be useless without it. Have you ever seen one fight? My stepmother owned three. It's not the size of the dog in the fight. Yet these dogs do not cause fear because they do not cause damage. The typical reaction to a strange Dachshund is almost automatic affection.

It is the damage done that is being discussed. Moreover, the fear of that damage. The actual breed is an irrelevant point.

By the way, Hi, everybody. I've been well. Tho my race bike was stolen and I'm riding an '87 Hardrock. I am building a new race bike. Aluminum this time.

ETA : No scientific data was harmed during the production of this opinion.

Back on topic, my CoCo is far worse and aggressive tan my Pinky ever thought about being. Pinky just wants to sleep and eat. CoCo attempts to kill anything that moves lol. Then runs when it comes near her, lol.

We've had two golden retrievers. Totally trustworthy with kids and horses. Not at all trustworthy with cats. One was fine with other dogs, the other hated them. Since I have a lot of acreage, he was off the leash at home and always on it when away from home. But he was a senior rescue and no knowledge of his previous family.

We've had two horses. One was probably the best therapy horse at the therapeutic riding school we eventually donated him to. The other would bite people, but he had PTSD due to a professional trainer who believed in beating animals that showed any spirit. We spent years teaching him that he was safe with us. But us didn't mean strangers. He didn't bite us, he would bite people he hadn't learned were safe.

Just as my kids were taught to ask if a strange dog could be petted, strangers should have asked if they could pet the horse, not just grab at him.
