LoveSlider -> Random capitalisation of letters. An open statement with minor rant content. (2/18/2013 11:06:27 AM)

I/is I/it J/j/JUUU/just Me or is all this sort of thing a little bit irritating?
As much as I appreciate that people may extend their own ideas of protocol into their written communications, and maybe some other people may be flattered that someone would communicate that way, personally it pisses me off!

My idea of the written word on the internet is it should convey the same feeling and intent as it would if said in person. In my opinion if you went around saying stuff like "y/You" to strangers they'd probably assume you had an impediment. Or that you'd just consumed a gram of speed. Neither of which they would likely find appealing.

Am I being a grammar nazi? Am I being intolerant of other peoples fetish in creative punctuation? Or is it just pissing annoying?

Much love

LS

Yes, you are being a grammar nazi. Yes, you are being intolerant of other people's fetish in creative punctuation. And yes, it is pissing annoying.

Does that help?

Personally, I don't like when people aim it at me or at the population in general, but referring to themselves and/or their own dom or sub, I couldn't care less. It's their dynamic, if it makes them happy, good for them.

It used to bother me a little but I came to realise I was being judgmental - it means a lot to some people and costs me nothing, so who am I to question it? If it helps people express what they want to say, then that's fine by me. It doesn't make it that much harder to read unless it's slashes every couple of words.

On the other hand, if you're messing with capitalization referring to me, I'd feel like you were imposing a dynamic on me and pushing me into a submissive role I hadn't agreed to, so that would annoy me.

Yes, you are being a grammar nazi. In fact, My sig line is designed exactly with folks like you in mind, OP. Please do feel free to hit that hide button if it bothers you.

I agree. If I am writting a reply to a sub/slave, I try to note whether they signed their name or disclosed their name with a capital or lower case. Then address them in that manner. If I initiate, then I use capitalization as my grade school teacher demanded. Just good manners.

Lucylastic -> RE: Random capitalisation of letters. An open statement with minor rant content. (2/18/2013 11:47:07 AM)

I have a semi paralysed pinky finger on my left hand. I use my left pinky finger to use the shift key, and sometimes I miss it, and sometimes it sticks, so you will get a IM an iM or an I'm, The same with almost any word that starts or should have a cap in it. I try to cap with all names, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt, its not a question of lack of respect for ones"station" Im also a lazy apostrophe user, I know the difference between there, their and theirs, you, your, and youre...
If it pisses you off, get over yourself, my typing isnt going to change to please anyone.
I dislike text speech, I also dislike third person speech, but I have many friends who do both, I just cant let it colour my opinion of them to the point Im gonna be a bitch about it
Life is too damn short

Lucylastic, regarding "getting over myself", this thread was intended to be a somewhat lighthearted piss take on a slow Monday evening. In reality I am quite happy to skim over anything so minor without getting my blood pressure up too much ;)

Nah, no need to hide you. For several reasons in fact;

First, you seem to have made up your mind about the whole issue and don't piss around putting slashes everywhere like some demented C basic nerd.
Second, you refer to your own relationships rather than drawing any inferences about what anyone else wants to hear.

And thirdly, your posts are otherwise worth reading, which is more than I can say for the inspiration for this thread! ;)

theshytype -> RE: Random capitalisation of letters. An open statement with minor rant content. (2/18/2013 11:55:50 AM)

Yes, you are being a grammar natzi and I honestly find that to be more annoying.

I personally do not do the capitalization/lower case. I have, on occasion when the mood strikes me in a vanilla setting, written someone's name with a lower case just to piss them off (a mental f-you to them) but usually it flies over their head.

I'm not here to judge another's fetish, creativity, intellectual level, disability, or their technology's abuse of autocorrect.

littlewonder -> RE: Random capitalisation of letters. An open statement with minor rant content. (2/18/2013 11:59:44 AM)

yes you're just being intolerant. There's this wonderful thing on here....ignore, delete, hide.

Moonlightmaddnes -> RE: Random capitalisation of letters. An open statement with minor rant content. (2/18/2013 12:02:16 PM)

If I hit the cap lock on accident while typing I may or may not go back and fix it depending on how lazy I feel. Sometimes my spell check catches it and fixes it for me.

Caps do not bother me near as much as people who think they need to correct everyone elses mistakes. I was messaging a friend once and she pointed out that I did not double space after the end of a sentence. I quit talking to her and she could not figure out why I did not reply to her messages.

Well, I do have to say that I appreciate that. I've actually been the target of this very conversation. More than once over the years, in fact. I look at it in the same way as I do anybody saying what has to happen in My dynamic. Pretty much that I'll answer the question, but otherwise, I don't care. It would make about as much sense as Me trying to tell you how to run your household or conduct your affairs.

I will admit to using the random slash. I have a bad habit of describing things and using and/or when it can apply to both. I just find it to be an easier shortcut.

ETA - I do also keep the habit of using caps or lower case as people identify themselves in their screen name. I figure the net might be the only place where a person has the opportunity to express themselves as they would like. Who am I to mess around with something like that?

needlesandpins -> RE: Random capitalisation of letters. An open statement with minor rant content. (2/18/2013 12:14:11 PM)

i have noticed that W/we Y/you slashing of words before, and found that rather annoying when it's used for everything. i don't find it a problem the way LP uses it as she is not applying it to everyone else, only her own dynamic. as you will notice i do not use capitals when typing in forums or pms. the reason for this is that i have nerve damage in my hands and it makes it a pain in the wrists to keep doing it. also i have to do alot of paper work for my jon where i have to think very hard about what i write, and the way i write it. in the forums it's supposed to be fun for me, so i relax it. it has nothing to do with how i lable myself as i am neither slave/sub. i do check though how people refer to themselves and if they capitalise their names i will do that too, or not for those that don't.

i see alot of people picking at the way others post in the forums and as a mum of a boy with learning difficulties it annoys me. hence as a rule you will never see me mock the way anyone else writes.

If this is meant to be a lighthearted slow Monday thing, the mods will hopefully move this to Off Topic. I think you will find others to take this more lighthearted there than here.

NiceButMeanGirl -> RE: Random capitalisation of letters. An open statement with minor rant content. (2/18/2013 12:31:09 PM)

I do find an excess of S/slashy S/speak to be blinding and hard to read, but I don't make a big deal out if it. I don't use it myself, but I will use a / if I don't want to type "him or her," then I will just type "him/her" instead. In that instance, it just saves keystrokes. I find it's much easier to be tolerant of others' kinks and protocols.

Hmmm, the last person to tell me how to run my household was actually a pretty little thing, she was telling me I was well in the wrong to be having half a GSXR engine on my kitchen table. I told her to piss off. The world continued to turn in it's mysterious ways and everyone was happy!

People can express themselves, I don't see why anyone would have a problem with that, unless they were actually being grammar nazis I suppose! To be honest I'd never thought about that, but then again I'd never really treated internet handles as proper nouns in the first place.

It's as lighthearted in the fact that I don't really give a toss, or as "heavy" in the fact that I'm having a whinge that a would-be/wannabe slave was attempting to engage me in that sort of dynamic without me saying I had any interest or requirement for it. Or in fact me saying anything at all.*

It could be just me taking the piss, or it could be a serious reflection on how people introduce themselves and type about themselves. I personally try and appear to be a person first and a kink second.

It's as heavy or as light as you want it to be! (this is all sounding a bit 1960's trippy. I'm not stoned, honest.)

*I actually have a suspicion the message originated from some sort of hairy bloke typing one handed while engaging in onanism with the other. But I digress...

Oh well. In for a penny...

Let's 'av it!

LadyPact -> RE: Random capitalisation of letters. An open statement with minor rant content. (2/18/2013 1:01:22 PM)

OK, in for a penny, in for a pound.

I'd have probably told you to get that off of the kitchen table, too. I'd have done that regardless of role. I probably would have reverted to the "didn't your Mother teach you any better" kind of thing.

One of these days, I really am going to post the entire list of reasons that I wouldn't make a good submissive. [8D]
