Epic!

Hehe, legend.
This forum really does need a "like" button.

LdyPayne -> RE: Random capitalisation of letters. An open statement with minor rant content. (2/18/2013 1:25:24 PM)

I gather you mean the use of capitals to designate a Dominant, such as in 'Greetings A/all' to indicate a universal greeting to all dominants and submissive in a chat room. Far as I am concerned, that isn't something that bothers me at all. The use of actual netspeak however, that bothers me more. The whole BRB, L8tr, R, U and the like often seen in some conversations.

I wouldn't say you were a grammar nazi, however. I reserve that for people who nitpick every single grammatical error and technically using capitals in non standard situations isn't really incorrect in the case here. It's all part of the culture of BDSM thus would technically be grammatically correct as it's intentional.

OK, in for a penny, in for a pound.

I'd have probably told you to get that off of the kitchen table, too. I'd have done that regardless of role. I probably would have reverted to the "didn't your Mother teach you any better" kind of thing.

One of these days, I really am going to post the entire list of reasons that I wouldn't make a good submissive. [8D]

I was thinking the same thing actually. lol. The dining table is nowhere to put a greasy, dirty engine. That's what the garage or basement is for.

I remember when my husband would do that stuff. I would just give him this look where I was biting my tongue and I would shake my head and walk away. He'd stand up and take it outside. [:D]

Am I being a grammar nazi? Am I being intolerant of other peoples fetish in creative punctuation? Or is it just pissing annoying?

No just a boring P***K, Oops sorry if that's not perfect, but you probably get my drift..

Funny old world isn't it. People piss you off, and people like you piss me off, but hey, that's life.

And remember that we'd be downloading your list this side of the Pond. Don't want those data cables under the ocean causing the Atlantic to boil over, do we? [;)]

i have noticed that W/we Y/you slashing of words before, and found that rather annoying when it's used for everything. i don't find it a problem the way LP uses it as she is not applying it to everyone else, only her own dynamic.

This is my view too. I find slashy speak annoying primarily because it makes it difficult to read.

lizi -> RE: Random capitalisation of letters. An open statement with minor rant content. (2/18/2013 3:39:28 PM)

I find slashy speak all kinds of annoying and will usually skip reading posts that use it. Capitalizing doesn't phase me much and I do that myself to indicate the Dominant parties, makes sense to me.

OP I don't really find you a grammar nazi or intolerant of another's fetish, we all have our opinions after all. I can't say I find each and every fetish a special little snowflake deserving of equal pats on the back, I've been known to be rather abrupt and cranky at times. I do try to keep my nose out of the things I don't care for and I just don't comment on those things, figuring that I wouldn't be impartial. I will uphold everyone's right to pursue what they want as long as all parties consent, but I don't have to like it.

TNDommeK -> RE: Random capitalisation of letters. An open statement with minor rant content. (2/18/2013 4:14:41 PM)

I don't do the slashy thing, but I occasionally do use capitalization when referring to Myself.
Sometimes I don't. Meh, I dunno.

I wouldn't say you're a grammar nazi just one one with a peeve and a question.

LafayetteLady -> RE: Random capitalisation of letters. An open statement with minor rant content. (2/18/2013 4:15:10 PM)

That's my issue with the slashy speak, which is what I took the OP to be referring to. Using Caps or lower case to indicate dominance and submission has never bothered me, since it is still readable. But when there are slashes every few words, my mind just doesn't intstantly delete them like it used to. Old age and all.

Damacis -> RE: Random capitalisation of letters. An open statement with minor rant content. (2/18/2013 5:28:31 PM)

You definitely aren't the only one that finds it annoying, LS.

FinDommeXtina -> RE: Random capitalisation of letters. An open statement with minor rant content. (2/18/2013 9:26:16 PM)

I doubt anyone is offended by other's lack of capitalization, why be bothered by some's? Especially in the context of a casual forum. It's a waste of time and only progresses a heart attack. Lets get over something this petty, it's just not worth it. If someone wants to be BDSM politically correct when addressing strangers, let them. Sometimes I do it and other times I'm lazy. Sometimes hitting a Capitol M is just habit and can't be shut off easily even in a casual setting.

SeekingTrinity -> RE: Random capitalisation of letters. An open statement with minor rant content. (2/18/2013 10:37:08 PM)

~FRing it~

I dont get on others if they do it, but I personally dont do it myself. Like some of the others have said, if there is just too much slashy speak going on...I tend to just skip over reading it altogether because it just seems to take way too much effort on my part to figure out just what the heck someone is trying to say [:)] Capitalization is something that I do notice, but it doesnt cause me to want to just stop paying attention the way the slashy talking does.

Personally, I don't like when people aim it at me or at the population in general, but referring to themselves and/or their own dom or sub, I couldn't care less. It's their dynamic, if it makes them happy, good for them.

It used to bother me a little but I came to realise I was being judgmental - it means a lot to some people and costs me nothing, so who am I to question it? If it helps people express what they want to say, then that's fine by me. It doesn't make it that much harder to read unless it's slashes every couple of words.

On the other hand, if you're messing with capitalization referring to me, I'd feel like you were imposing a dynamic on me and pushing me into a submissive role I hadn't agreed to, so that would annoy me.

This.

Yeah, the slashy speak is a good term for it.
Slightly creative use of the shift key doesn't bother me.

Using "teh txt spk" on the other hand, now that is a whole different rant. But my opinion on that is if somebody can't be arsed to put effort into typing something then why should anyone else put effort into their reply so will try and find the least helpful and most sarcastic answer.

There must be a myers-briggs personality profile test on this site somewhere ... and you came as a infP!

LoveSlider -> RE: Random capitalisation of letters. An open statement with minor rant content. (2/19/2013 2:22:26 AM)

INTP, apparently. My mate who's doing some manner of head-doctoring-stuff at uni got me to do a test. She also referred to me as another 4 letter word but that's different. :-P

Yes, you are being a grammar nazi. In fact, My sig line is designed exactly with folks like you in mind, OP. Please do feel free to hit that hide button if it bothers you.

That doesn't bug me at all. The slashy speak, however, drives me nuts because I find it hard to read. I often put them on hide after a while.
