Are you actually going to say that therapy isnt required of our cops after a shooting?

Well if it isn't, it probably will be after encountering a health care provider with a toxic attitude like yours. I thought the idea was to help patients, not create them.

Are you actually going to say that therapy isnt required of our cops after a shooting? Even a brief amount? And you want me to believe a 12 year old can handle that far better than an adult who is trained to pull the trigger?

I have to wonder that, maybe, your meds need to be changed, darling. [;)]

Necessary for all cops? No. Required by departmental regulations? Yes.

It's not about pulling the trigger as much as the need for understanding why one has to. Some have understand better than others. Not everyone is alike, though you seem to wish to categorize all as such. This is not to say no one needs "therapy". But one cannot assume all do.

What can cause post-traumatic stress disorder in a child?
Any child who witnesses or goes through a life-threatening experience is at risk of developing PTSD. While any traumatic event can trigger PTSD symptoms, common traumas that have been linked to the disorder include:

accidents, such as car or plane crashes
natural disasters, such as floods or earthquakes
acts of war or terrorism
violent crimes, such as a home invasion, kidnapping or murder
physical, emotional or sexual abuse (either of the child or of another family member in front of the child)
neglect
house fires
exposure to violence at school or in the community
suicide of a family member or friend
It’s important to note, however, that not all children who live through one of these traumas will develop PTSD.

Now, do explain to me how you know she will not?

I really would love for you to do that. Most children do. But, if you are so positive she will not, I am sure you have supporting evidence that the 12 year old girl in that story will not.

If you cannot PROVE she wont. My statement stands.

I've fixed the definition to agree with you:

Post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD, is a mental health disorder affecting all children, adolescents and adults who have survived had a traumatic any experience that a health care provider judges should be considered traumatic.

From the same link....

as many as 100 percent of children who witness the murder or sexual assault of a parent develop PTSD
90 percent of children who are sexually abused develop PTSD
77 percent of children who are injured in, or witness, a school shooting develop PTSD
35 percent of children in urban areas who are exposed to community violence develop PTSD

Can you be positive she wont develop this?

tazzygirl -> RE: gun control and tragedies (3/14/2013 4:24:47 PM)

Statistics say she will.

That's a nice dance step, but you're the one who flatly claimed that she would need "years of therapy". Can you be positive that your claim is true? More to the point, did you even consider the actual facts of the case before making the claim? Or is this just some kind of "one size fits all" whiz-bang?

You dont read links, do you. Which is why you are often so misinformed. I really should know better by now with you.

You grab a gun, get a hard on, and expect everyone else to do so.

A home invasiion for children is well known to cause many PTSD.

Couple that with shooting someone... and you two comics believe this little girl will skip through without a beat.

Thank god neither of you are responsible for her.

I did consider the actual facts of the case.

Did you consider the statistics of a child developing PTSD after a home invasion? Then couple that with having to shoot someone?

Of course not. You were too busy stroking you gun.

Are you fucking shell shocked or snake bit?

You don't know if you're coming or going, do you!

Virtually everything you post is emotionally driven.

tazzygirl -> RE: gun control and tragedies (3/14/2013 4:33:39 PM)

And yet 77% who witness a school shooting will. What are the chances when a kid pulls the trigger who isnt bent on killing someone but, instead, is trying to save her own life?

When you come down off your gun high, you might actually see something beyond your own hard on for guns.

Bite me.

23%... SORRY

tazzygirl -> RE: gun control and tragedies (3/14/2013 4:37:10 PM)

Tsk tsk.

Dont worry. Im sure living with a parent who didnt have enough sense to get her gun training, but kept a loaded gun in the home, the child will go without therapy of any kind.

Its cool. Your guns are safe. To bad that child isnt.
