If they have multiple CM identities.  Usually this is when they trip up and use the same picture in multiple profiles.  I guess they are counting on no one noticing.

Status: offline 		Finaly found a way of not paying the bills,all we have to do is sned them back with "Return to Sender On Them" as the address is not real and neither are the names who were to pay them.
But yes there are fakes here as well as in any site or in real life you just need to judge your feelings and as already said meeting the person soon lets you know if they are either flesh and blood or just figments of your and their Imaginations.

one has not had any 'spammers' or 'links to porno sites' from anyone here to be honest so cant help ya there....
As to finding 'real' people from this site, one can say that they are there. one also has to say though that as to the word 'real', Jjerks can be found anywhere and are just as 'real' as the non-Jjerks.
one has found both on here as on any other place, both in the Life and outside of the Life. There is not any secret to discovering 'real' people and amongst them, real people who are also pretty decent folk - all it takes is getting to know folks (such as by reading and responding to posts on the boards, as someone else here has already suggested), and keeping your sense of humour at the ready.  Sometimes, that is the hardest part but, given some of the really wonderful people buffy has come to know from here (many of whom she has now met in r/l), its worth it. 
Advice?.... Dont give up, 'real' and even better, 'good real' is all around you here,  Good luck in your search.

Status: offline 		When I first joined, I ran across a profile using the picture of a good (vanilla) friend of mine (she is a model, so her pics are on various places online).  I wrote to CM, and they responded that she would need to send a copy of her drivers license to prove her identity.  She wasn't excited about that option, so we wrote to the user asking them to remove the picture - no response (shocking, huh?).  She decided that it was pointless to pursue it further, and I think it pissed me off more than her.  I find it offensive that while we are hoping to "bare our souls" with a compatible partner, there are many that are hiding behind fake profiles - for profit or simply for "sport" (wankers).
 
However, there are definitely real people on here - and I am a firm believer in personal letters and real-time meetings over profiles.  Of the 3 gentlemen I have had the pleasure of interacting with from this site, 2 have what I would consider less-than-detailed profiles, but one wrote me a lovely intro letter to start the conversation and the other I actually met real-time first (and he introduced me to the site).  The 3rd has a pretty detailed profile, but it was his opening letter and our subsequent meeting that showed me he was truly for real.

Status: offline 		well, that totally sucks...these (i prefer the term) jerk-offs can still be allowed to me here and your friend is required to send a copy of a document that could end up being used for other things (i don't really trust such things to any site and would advise againt it).

perhaps there's a way to go to some organization, say, like the FBI and report this...be safer for your friend in the long run.

afterall, identity theft is a felony crime and would be investigated. might mean that CM would end up being shut down...but we're talking someone's personal life being violated.

Status: offline 		You are being WAY too paranoid - the person who borrowed the pic has no way of finding out her personal info, and I trust the FBI far less than virtually any poser on this site! 

BTW - the profile in question is now gone.  Perhaps the exceedingly poorly written profile was not getting any response despite the cute girl pic!

It's called meet face to face in real life.


Yes, not from here, but from other sites, I speak to someone fairly quickly by phone after a few emails and then if that works meet but assume nothing until real meeting. It's the best way to do it.

just a small suggestion michael .... when you get to the point of conversation speak to them with confidence and positive attitudes .... relate it to this thought process:

To get back on track here...The answer to the OP is very simple.  You are not browsing profiles...you are clicking on ads (I am guessing the ones with the pictures of the hot babes)!  These are not site members.  These are businesses. 
So the trick, or rule of thumb, would be...stay within the site.  Yes, I know, it means you have to do more than click on a hot pic, but what can I say?  Actually look at some member profiles and send an email or two.  Once you've done that, go ahead and make the typical newbie complaint of "fakes".  We already know about the ads, which are taken by the site to enable you (and all of us) to have a free membership here, and are designed to get you to spend money. 
Sorry , not trying to be hard on you, but honestly!  I have to take this as either a severe lack of internet savvy, or laziness.   It's up to you if you want to follow your dick or use your head.
As to your profile...please re-read Merc's post #27. No point in repeating.  It sounds to Me like you are just looking to get some spice on the side, and you thought you found a quick way to get laid.

Status: offline 		at one point i had 2 because CM had closed me out of the message boards on one profile and i could not figure my way back in.  in other instances, i have been told that someone might be trying to present as a Dominant on one profile, and a sub on the other, that way they can find more people to play with.

Here's one tip:  Browse a person's forum posts.  If they have none, put your bullshit detectors on full alert.  If they have lots, you should be able to form a good picture about them from those.

Status: offline 		It's hard to find "real" people anywhere in life. Even taking all the precautions and screening techniques, there's still a good chance you'll get screwed over by someone fake. On CM, or anywhere else. The trick is to just keep searching and not give up on finding someone real who you can connect with. Don't let past experiences with fake people discourage you, instead learn from them and learn what to look for, (as in a profile.)
