Thank you everyone who took the time to answer the reporting question. I'm sure it's all over the map right now because it is so hard to coordinate information coming from the various hospitals.

Yes, as much as I hate to say it, with injuries of this kind, I'm sure you are right TallullahHk. (I hope I got that right.) I would be surprised if some of those in the injured column didn't end up in the 'dead' column by tomorrow. On a personal note, I'd like to tell you that I am very glad that your family and friends are safe and ok.

Toll at the Boston Marathon rises to 125 injured. Person of interest questioned.~BostonGlobe Twitter Feed

SWAT reported at Brigham and Womens Hospital.

Actually SWAT is at all the hospitals according to WGBH radio.

They also have officers armed to the teeth at all the hotels.

Sorry if it came across as insensitive. My heart aches for the dead, the wounded, and the ones who have to deal with the slowly unfolding nightmare we're watching right now. I stand by my words, we have been very, very, very lucky so far. Up until this afternoon, we could all go to a mass spectator event knowing that, for the most part, nothing like this would ever happen.
A few months ago, at the range I go shoot at, we had a guest who was an instructor for an advanced shooting class in the area. He was an Israeli, and he remarked at how surprised he was to see how little we seem to be aware of how easy it is for an attack like this. He remarked about things like how the trashcans could be used to conceal explosives, how easy it would be to park large trucks near significant numbers of people, stuff like that. Nice fella, wasn't condescending at all, just surprised at how lassez-faire we are considering our position in the world.

Call me insensitive, call me a jerk. I don't care. I am only pointing out the obvious here.

jmo but the term "we've been overdue for something like this" can mean different things to different people.. I was just thinking yesterday that AlQueda has been quiet, and news since OBL was killed had pivoted to Iran and now North Korea.. and no real news on AQ.. I was asking myself that maybe cutting the head off (OBL) did kill the snake (AQ) and they are too fragmented now... but today, I dunno.. too early to know if its them or a domestic nutbar..

Israelis live a different life, terror attacks are expected, everyone there must do a stint in the military, women included, no molly coddling for the fairer sex either.. yes, it is different there.. they are more on guard and think in terms of a bomb room in their apartment building, hotel, etc & you have to know where its located so when you hear sirens you get to that room asap.. who in the US has a bomb room? I guess since they grow up with that constant threat, they are used to thinking in that way and seeing possible bomb hiding places in trash cans, etc.. and imo they are pretty tough vigilant people, cuz they have to be.. personally, I would not want to grow up in that kind of environment tho..

While I have no love for Obama (and even less for Bush), in fewer than 24 hours we'll no doubt see news reports that (but for 9/11) "nothing like this happened on Bush's watch" and then the excoriation of Obama for having allowed this to occur on American soil.

This ain't the time.

Whether this was from outside, or inside, let's just hope that all the losses of privilege we've all been certain we've lost since September 11, now pay off with extreme coordination amongst the "good guys" and let's hope this isn't the start of some kind of wave.

And if it is (and, if it's not), let's all pray for the men and women who care for us, selflessly: the police, firemen, nurses, doctors and those who lost their lives and in some cases, those who now have lost much of their future.

Tonight I'm just going to do what I can, which is, simply, tell my friends and family how much I love them.

In the meantime, stay away from crowds, keep your eyes and ears open, and be extraordinarily cautious.

Sorry, our borders need to be closed, especially to those countries that have issues with us. Does that come off as racist? Maybe. But I think it is more nationalist.

If we had closed the American borders in 1995, how would that have prevented Timothy McVeigh from setting off his bomb at the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, OK?

There is a strong possibility (stronger than the possibility of the bomber(s) being Islamic terrorists or of the bomber(s) being illegal immigrants) that the bombs in Boston were set by people similar to Timothy McVeigh - American-born, Right-Wing extremists who consider themselves "American Patriots". What better way to protest "Federal Income Tax Filing Deadline Day"?

Remember: when Timothy McVeigh set off his bomb at the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, OK - Fox-News immediately reported that the bombing was the act of Islamic terrorists. Guess they were wrong, huh?

fox news only came about a year after tha mcveigh bombing.

No, there is just a contingent of Brits who are very anti-United States. It's getting old to be honest.

We aren't anti-United States at all.

Just that some of the US responses are too self-pitying and self-righteous.
Not that I really expected anything different from a predominantly US site.

Yea I can feel the love from me. So tell me, if this is how you talk about people you are not against, what the fuck do you say about the ones you don't like?

TallullahHk -> RE: Explosions at Boston Marathon (4/15/2013 5:58:44 PM)

The FBI is doing a press conference now and they are not commenting on any investigation leads.
It was reported earlier that they had photos of a black man in a black hoodie carrying 2 back packs. I have to say that would not be unusual at all. A lot of people meet their family/friends just a few blocks past the finish line. I've lugged bags around for running friends many times.

I still got the vibe there is someone there, they just dont want to use the word "suspect".

They also said there are now 3 dead, and at least 8 of the injured are children.

Yeah, that crossed my mind too. They don't want anybody deciding to "interview" him with some lead questions.

angelikaJ -> RE: Explosions at Boston Marathon (4/15/2013 6:04:28 PM)

I am guessing that the FBI are questioning lots of people at the various hospitals who may have seen something as well as bagging up everyone's clothing which are full of evidence.

You posted that same bull shit lie many months ago on a FOX News is evil / bad thread or some such crap. I'll point out once again that the Oklahoma City bombing was on April 19th 1995. The first FOX News broadcast was on Oct 7th 1996.

Nice time to take a jab at conservatives and FOX. Smoothe move Exlax.

Based on the past behavior of our Federal LEO's , I'd a hell of a lot rather be a "Suspect" than a "Person of interest"
Over the last couple of decades, the latter seems to be translated as "You're fucked" more often than not.

There's a real incongruity between a marathon and a bombing at the finish line. It's a very upsetting and malicious act. I wonder what the motivation was?

I would guess it more to do with the locations of the trash cans and the bombings are a protest of Patriots Day and Tax Day, and not the race itself, but we may never know.
