ORIGINAL: jlf1961 See, he really did, he did not say that the Muslims were excluded from this! Well, of course, he had to abide by the Constitution and the First Amendment, which includes Freedom of Religion. It's not a betrayal of Republicans or anyone else. Even Bush Jr. said as much after 9/11, that they were only going after radical terrorists, not against Muslims as a whole. The bigger flaw with Reagan was that he failed to properly assess the radical terrorist threat coming from that area of the world, mistakenly believing that all terrorism emanated from the "Evil Empire." Reagan was far too obsessed with his fossilized ideological opposition to the Soviet Union that he failed to see the real threat. He even traded arms for hostages with our arch-enemy at the time, Iran, because he was obsessed with overthrowing the Nicaraguan regime which he considered communist. Reagan jumped into bed with Iran even before he was elected, even while they were holding our people hostage. And now, everyone (including Republicans) are worried about the threat coming from Iran. Thanks, Ronnie!
