Here we go again, someone is sure to post a "Get rid of privately owned guns and this will stop" thread.

Problem is that California has move gun control than anyone else in the country.

Because I do not believe that getting rid of the legally owned guns will stop this.

Thank you for calming me down.

I was about to propose mandatory lobotomies for all, but passing out a bunch of semi-automatics with thirty-round clips to any and all who want them is clearly the more sane approach.

It's all about perspective, so they tell us.

You should remember that California has the strictest gun laws in the country.

California also gives their oil away for free to Chevron.

I think we're both making excellent points, here.

But limiting the type of guns may at least make it more difficult to kill efficiently...in the long run anyway. And it will make a big difference in deaths... it has been proven over and over again in countries that limit guns or have strict laws. When the total murders by guns in the UK in one year is less then my home town of St. Louis... there is an obvious reason.

It is so sad this continues, whatever the reason.

You right it is very sad. But I am a bit confused about why you called it a campus shooting. while he did end up on campus, he started at a house and nothing in the story implied it had anything to do with the college. I think the whole situation is bad enough without trying to make it sound worse.

he reported it as the news is reporting it.. a campus shooting... because shots were made on campus.. people were killed on campus.... the man hijacked a car and forced the woman to drive him to the campus....

Taking your assessment, the shooting at Sandy Hook wasnt a school shooting because his rampage began in a house as well.

The article I read was headlined "Five dead in Santa Monica shooting rampage." but it did mention that he ended at the school after he had shot at several people on his way there. Sandy Hook, the majority of the shooting was done at the school. But I suppose it really doesn't matter where it happened. At least not to the ones who were shot.

To be honest, Butch, these arent "sane" people who are doing the killings. However, they seem to be obtaining them from people who are sane. My thoughts of how to prevent that are two fold... one I have discussed at great length.... the other registration and mandatory background checks on all gun sales.

Yes and it is the same reason as why they were the degree lower before the draconian laws were passed.
How do you explain the fact that Mexico with equally draconian gun laws not only has a much higher murder rate than England but also much higher than the U S
How do you explain that there are more guns in civilian hands but the crime rate, and in particular the violent crime rate has cut in half over the last 20 years?

Who said anything about stopping at privately owned weapons?

http://www.wpri.com/dpp/news/target_12/officers-that-responded-to-uri-gun-scare-unarmed
"Campus police were unarmed on Thursday as they responded to reports of a gunman on the University of Rhode Island’s Kingston campus."

http://www.kval.com/news/local/Should-UO-police-carry-guns-189882871.html
"The University of Oregon plans three open campus forums in February and March to discuss the issue of arming campus police officers."

Who was it that stopped this shooter, again?

How do you explain the fact that Mexico with equally draconian gun laws not only has a much higher murder rate than England but also much higher than the U S

lousy/corrupt law enforcement and the ease of smuggling guns into Mexico from the US (largest gun manufacturer on the planet).

The number of young men in the age cohort most prone to violence is much smaller (as a percentage of population than it was in the early 90's. Also it is theorized that removing lead from the environment may have prevented neurological damage that leads to violence. Since violent crime rates are down in states with permissive and restrictive gun laws no causal relationship to guns in civilian hands can be made.
