yeah it's nice to come here for entertainment value but I also have other places online that I am reading or talking on while I'm also on here so losing one site may not be that big a deal to me I guess.

Exactly. This and FetLife is it for me. Egad, I'm even an introvert on anonymous message boards.

I've gone into it a bit more in detail on past threads. I agree, it's not quite as simple as it sounds. But there is a give and take. Businesses need customers, forums need posters, hosts need guests. One can't exist without the other. I don't subscribe to the "Love it or leave it" rule, myself. I've seen moderation here make changes as a result of our suggestions and needs. There can be, and has been, collaboration.

Businesses ban troublesome customers. Hosts cease sending invitations to unruly guests. And moderators remove posters from forums who cannot behave. It is true that businesses need customers, forums need posters, hosts need guests. They don't need every warm body they can get their hands on. What they don't need is troublemakers. If the moderators here ran roughshod over everyone and the place was a ghost town as a result then that would be different. What small percentage of folks is on time out here at any given time? What percentage of forum posters has ever been placed in the penalty box?

I just went back and re-read your initial post. This person was placed on moderation and then created a new profile to circumvent the moderation and their predicament is somehow the moderators' fault?

Just sayin'.

I can only go by my personal experience...I have received plenty of warnings... I pay attention... and I'm still here...But getting moderated is no big thing anyway. If it was something I felt deeply about I'd take the chance and say what I wanted...but I could and would not complain about being put in the dog house.

jlf1961 -> RE: I really don't want to flounce, but... (6/23/2013 9:55:16 PM)

I got plenty of warnings before the two times I was moderated. And I admit that I they were fair.

I have actually been trying to find a picture of the world's largest menu item hamburger with something as a scale to show the shear size of the damn thing, a college basketball team could not finish it.

tazzygirl -> RE: I really don't want to flounce, but... (6/23/2013 10:01:14 PM)

I didnt get a warning. But, then again, I didnt need a warning. I think the post I made even said I knew I was about to get modded, I deserved it, and I would take it with sweet grace because the satisfaction I felt in what I posted with absolutely worth it.

jlf1961 -> RE: I really don't want to flounce, but... (6/23/2013 10:10:38 PM)

And I think I remember the post to which you refer, and it was indeed priceless.

littlewonder -> RE: I really don't want to flounce, but... (6/23/2013 10:24:12 PM)

I've never had a warning but I never cared one way or the other. My life doesn't revolve around this place.

jlf1961 -> RE: I really don't want to flounce, but... (6/23/2013 10:27:57 PM)

My life does not revolve around this place either, however I do find that checking in daily a few times usually gives me a nice sense of perspective... at least the eye candy and train wreck threads.

Well, that's kind of been the ongoing discussion on this topic, over the years. What defines "troublemaker?" And what percentage of the forum posters that I enjoy reading have been placed in the penalty box? But I have already said more than my share about that. Moderators know how I feel.

Awareness wasn't put on moderation. He was banned. (That's not private knowledge. He stated that in one of his first posts as TAFKAA.) He did make the new profile, TAFKAA (The Asshole Formerly Known As Awareness) about six months after he was banned. But, he also claimed publicly exactly who he was upon his return and all knew it (including moderators) and allowed it.

TAFKAA was put on a two-month moderation in March. At the end of two months, his ability to post hasn't been restored. There has been no explanation as to why, even upon his inquiry. It seems odd to say, but if they had said in March "You are now permanently banned" then I would have nothing to say right now. But they didn't. Moderation stated something that they apparently had no intention of following through with. That's my grievance.

You're incorrect.

ps - ask him to show you ALL the correspondence he's had with me.

..............................................and now, for the rest of the story..................................................

Kaliko -> RE: I really don't want to flounce, but... (6/24/2013 4:19:43 AM)

Chi, I would be thrilled to admit it if I'm incorrect, but I did just double check with him to see if I've got things wrong, and he doesn't know what you're referring to.

ARIES83 -> RE: I really don't want to flounce, but... (6/24/2013 5:03:58 AM)

Kaliko, I sympathise.

With the long distance relationship stuff, and being able to cyber-socialise with each other and others on this forum.
I would hope whatever he's banned for isn't too out there, and you two can possibly have that again.

Having said that, I keep having flashbacks of a young me, repeatedly getting in trouble with the cops and thinking I was a big grown up guy... for not letting any amount of fines or court dates effect how I thought I should behave.
Err... No point going any further into my sordid past and whatever parallels it may or may not hold... When Awareness isn't really able to respond to that conjecture.

Though I will say, while I may have been big and ugly enough to be unperturbed by the results of my actions... It was the small pretty things along for the ride who felt the effects the most.

Level -> RE: I really don't want to flounce, but... (6/24/2013 5:05:14 AM)

Kaliko, I like you, and hope you stay.

I'd also like it if Awareness were posting again, especially if he'd take some of the cutting edge off of his words when directing statements at people. He and I have never had an issue with one another, but he's been harsher with some folks here than circumstances required, IMO.

Okay, this would imply one of two things,

A) he is suffering from selective amnesia...

B) VideoAdminChi is lieing through her teeth by trying to shift the blame to him.

Now your statement indicates that you are going with option B.

Now I have never had any run ins with Awareness, actually not even sure who you are talking about, however I have, in my dealings with Chi, or any of the other mods never known them to knowingly lie, falsely accuse anyone or act in a way that is completely unethical.

I have been modded on two occasions, and both were deserved. I have had to remind them when my period of being moderated was over, but I dont blame them, or suspect they were trying to extend the length for any reason.

So, I would tend to believe Chi and the other mods on a disciplinary action. There are some boards I frequent that require the mods to post the reason why action was taken and the warnings given prior to the action, which is, IMO, unnecessary, since it implies that the mods cannot be trusted.

I also believe the TOS is subject to interpretation by the individual, but that still does not imply that they have an agenda.

But then I believe in giving people the benefit of the doubt until the do something that is complete bullshit.

So the bottom line is, Chi acted in what she thought was in the best interests for the members of the boards, and whoever was getting the sharp end of the stick.

I also happen to suspect that chi and a couple of the other mods are in the employ of the NSA or possibly the Illuminati, which means they are here to spy on me, making sure that I do nothing to betray the fact I am an Illuminati operative, which of course no one is supposed to know.

If that is not the case, there is a distinct possibility that they are in league with the evil alien housecats and the surgically altered lizard man alien who is now our president..

Or they are actually sentient cybernetic lifeforms who are trying to establish skynet's control of the planet, by controlling the interaction on the internet of the BDSM sub culture.

There is also the possibility that we actually exist in a computer simulation such as seen in the movie "13th Floor" and the mods are actually system administrators in control of the situation and use act of moderating sims as a way to tweak the sims individual programs.

Or none of the above is true and I am just overly paranoid, in which case I will be deleted, terminated o0r forced to eat creamed spinach.

http://calvinandhobbes.wikia.com/wiki/Calvinball

"Calvinball is a game invented by Calvin in which one makes the rules up as one goes along. Rules cannot be used twice. No Calvinball game is like another. The game may involve wickets, mallets, volleyballs, and additional equipment as well as masks.

There is only one permanent rule in Calvinball: One can't play it in the same way twice"

It was a popular moderation style when Alpha was sick and Gamma decided to 'take charge'
