ORIGINAL: wandersalone I don't own a gun and have always disliked/feared them, no tangible reason that I can think of for this original dislike I remember using a gun at a friends farm to shoot at tin cans and I would line up the target and then CLOSE my eyes and pull the trigger so I figure the world is a much safer place if I don't have one. I am not anti- guns, more just anti me having one. That's a perfectly valid approach. Having a firearm is a right, not a duty, in this country. It is, and should be up to you, on whether you have any kind of weapon. I used to teach a firearm's self defense course on a range in Mississippi. Most of my students were women. This was because I suspect none of the local men wanted to admit they had anything to learn. [shrug] Such is life. Anyway, I'd start the first class with this statement. "This is a firearm. In the context of this class, it has one simple purpose and that is to blow a large bloody hole in someone. It is not a remote control; you can't get someone to obey you with one of these. It's not a magic shield; if you hold one people can still hurt you. It just blows large bloody holes in people. Now if you are not comfortable blowing a large bloody hole in a person, this class is not for you. We'll glad refund your fee." We usually lost 10 to 30 percent of each class, but the range operator agreed with me and ate it (Well we both ate it since I was paid a percentage)
