You're missing the point taz.

I'm saying democratic policies made some things worse in the 20th century.

19th century events are therefore irrelevent.

And I am saying some conservative policies have added to that situation. For example, in this century alone, starting in 2007. There is a long laundry list of people and agencies to blame, spanning decades. It wasnt just one party or one ideology... but its the people who have paid.. adding to the welfare roles.

http://www.economicpredictions.org/who-is-to-blame-for-the-financial-crisis.htm

You can insist all you want on whose policies caused what. You want to blame the New Deal Era... in order to do so, you also have to blame what led up to that era and what prompted the AFDC policies. And I dont think you are so willing to do that.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smoot%E2%80%93Hawley_Tariff_Act

The act, and the ensuing retaliatory tariffs by U.S. trading partners, reduced American exports and imports by more than half. Economists agree that the Smoot–Hawley Tariff Act increased the severity of the Great Depression.

Which led to a 25% unemployment rate, which led to so many needing help from the government.

Who were Smoot and Hawley?

Smoot was a Republican from Utah and chairman of the Senate Finance Committee. Willis C. Hawley, a Republican from Oregon, was chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee.

So a Republican President, and a GOP controlled House and Senate passed a tariff law that caused the Depression to become as severe as it became.

Blaming Democratic policies no longer cut it.. not with me. There are causes and effects for ever policy ever made. You cant simply point to one event and declare... THIS did it. Something led to THIS. Something else led to that THIS.

What policy caused what things to get worse and what evidence do you have to support that.
