dixiedumpling -> Things your mother taught you (11/13/2004 8:22:37 PM)

My mother has been on my mind lately. Probably because it's fast approaching the one year mark of her death. But this is a fun post. When I was a kid and would be sick and not hungry, she'd always threaten me with this: "You've got to eat. If you don't, you'll get dehydrated and have to go to the hospital and get a drip." This sounded like a pretty cool thing to my kiddie ears.

Anyone else with motherly wisdom?

Hi dixie,
not so much what my mum said, but i recall dad telling me on more than one occassion that "If you eat your crust, you'll get hair on your chest" lol, being the only girl, know wonder i got confused!!! [:D]

I remember 2 pearls of motherly wisdom....

1. whenever we didn't get something we wanted and acted bratty or whoned, my mother would say that we better stop or or face would freeze like that.

2. regarding bread crust, my mother encouraged it by saying it would make our hair (on our head) curly.

It seems appropriate to give fathers equal time so here is one pearl of "wisdom" that comes to mind frequently "stated" by my father...
"Shut the hell up!"

LOL

My mother was a very proper and upright lady. Her expression of being enraged was "I'm so mad I could spit!" I still remember the talk she gave me at 16 when my first cold sore showed up.. I call it the oral to genital lecture to this day. Oh, then again, there was the time I was 14 and she told my brother that she had brought him into this world and could take him right back out and make another to replace him. She was kidding.. I think. *grins*

Sorry to hear about your mother dixiedumpling, my mother past away this year also it is a tough thing to deal with. *hugs*

My Mother was German so if she ever got mad at us she started yelling in German and we didn't understand much of it... *LOL* Maybe a good thing? My mother was also a neat freak so i can always remember "cleanliness is next to Godliness"

If you can afford to pay someone to do it for you, hire them.

Leave cooking to the professionals.

My Mother always said, "drink all your motor oil, it's good for you".

The quote from my mother is quite similar...if we got a bump bruise, or had a limb hanging by a thread, my mother would say, "Walk on it, it's good for you"

Eat your dinner and stop watching tv!
Your face will freeze like that...
Always wear clean underwear in case you have an accident and have to go to hospital.
You can just get glad in the same pants you got mad in!
I could see a pot of gold in the middle of the street and by the time I got to it, it would be Fool's Gold...

It's been 7 years since my mom passed away, I can still hear her say...........

This too shall pass.

rubberslaveboy -> RE: Things your mother taught you (1/4/2005 2:52:01 PM)

My mom is a wise lady...two saying come to mind.

"If you fall out that tree and break your leg, don't come running to me!"

"I brought you into this world, and I can take you out!"

As for the clean underwear in an accident, i'm sorry, but if i'm ever in an accident, my underwear would be the last thing on me that's clean.

My dad also had his points of wisdom...

"Save the trees...wipe your ass with an owl."

"You ain't got to go home, but you gotta get the hell outta here!"

"This isn't a beer gut...it's a gas tank for a sex machine."

Wisdom of the elders.....

having a mother that worked in an operating room, one of the things she taught us early was "we are ALL the same color under our skin"

liltxsubby -> RE: Things your mother taught you (1/6/2005 6:50:58 PM)

hmm well my dad always used to say
"poop in one hand and want in the other and see which one is heavier".
"put that in your pipe and smoke it"
"onions make ya purty" to which my smart ass response undoubtebly was"they didn't work for you".

mom's jewels were
"if you sit that close to the TV you'll go blind",
"i see you, moms have eyes in the back of their heads"
"i hope you have kids one day just like you...sweet revenge"
