No, the fact is that Zimmerman was licensed to carry, it's legal in the state he was in, and he was carrying according to all applicable laws and regulations.

Which is exactly the reason why FL is now added to my list of states for which I need a *really* good reason before I'd voluntarily visit [again].

well now you have peaked my curiousity!.. as to the other states on your list! [:D]

Powergamz1 -> RE: UNMODERATED ZIMMERMAN (7/15/2013 5:51:22 PM)

While we're all busy asking questions and stuff, perhaps somebody can explain this to me..

If you see a man following you and discern that he is waving a gun around (as alleged)... why would you run up and punch him in the nose instead of trying to get control of, or disable the gun hand?

The fact that the suspicious person, never referenced as a robber, burglar, or anything but suspicious, may have been armed is a good reason to be carrying.

the other person being armed is actually a good reason to not leave your vehicle.. he also kept referring to Martin, I believe to both the operator and to the police during the interview as "the suspect"... that to me means he considered Martin was much more than just "suspicious".. he basically had already judged Martin a "criminal"..

And how many states does that leave that don't have CCW carry?

(Hint: it's a trick question).

Yeah, yeah, coupled with the stand your ground law?

And as you are well aware, there was a conversation about Zimmerman and civil rights charges, already in progress.

Way to swear to a lie, in the service of racism... a reputation you've worked hard to build.

Pointing out you are a tosser is hardly racism my dear chap. None of my posts have ever included racist remarks but fell free to post any you find.

I didnt "Swear to a lie" nor swear to anything else. I simply pointed out your failure to ever address the point and then resort to trolling/name calling in order to make yourself look like saintly.

Maybe its time for you to change socks again, or blame the mods, or indeed blame everyone else for your crass behaviour.

How dare you expect a brown skinned man to explain himself!

BamaD -> RE: UNMODERATED ZIMMERMAN (7/15/2013 6:03:20 PM)

right the fact that he called him a suspect means he meant more
guess he should have called him that upstanding young black gentleman get real

Powergamz1 -> RE: UNMODERATED ZIMMERMAN (7/15/2013 6:04:11 PM)

Well, I'd hate to see you miss out on some great experiences around the country...[:)]

IIRC the old 'retreat to the wall' requirement (that created the SYG backlash) has been pretty much dismantled as well, leaving SYG, castle doctrine, etc. as a de facto situation almost nationwide.

Some states have gone farther with the presumptive threat laws, which can be very problematic ala Joe Horn in Texas and the Japanese student in Louisiana... I'm not crazy about those states either. Florida is OK though, I had lots of fun in Miami last summer.

Is it me or does someone have Castle Doctrine confused with SYG laws?

BamaD -> RE: UNMODERATED ZIMMERMAN (7/15/2013 6:07:21 PM)

Bad news it is what the police told him to carry.

I realize that you can crush a Dobermans head between your thumb and forefinger but we aren't all so well endowed.

well that's interesting.. so if Martin was on top of Zimmy with his knees up at his armpits and getting a gun outta a holster like that isnt easy.. how did Zimmy do that? or did Zimmy already have the gun out before or during the fight? The prosecutors said today in an interview they believe Zimmy had the gun out before he said he did, which is why Martin was screaming..

You implied that it wasn't possible for Zimmerman to *not* have his gun already out, even though the expert witness explained that

4 possible answers

A   You are too stupid to live and need to be removed from the gene pool

B   You have a terminal untreatable and very painful disease

C   Your family is desperate for money and you have an insurance policy that only pays if you are shot while unarmed.

D   It didn't happen

Sharpton incited a riot in NYC which burned out a Jewish business for being in a black neighborhood,  black security guard was killed.

Conner unleashed the dogs and used the fire hoses in direct violation of Wallace's directives (not cause Wallace was such a humanitarian but because he was aware of the backlash)

I'm no fan of Sharpton's, but I still don't think history warrants equating him and Jackson with Connor and Wallace, who spent years--while theoretically in the service of the public--abusing the machinery of government to uphold Jim Crow laws, deny African Americans the vote, circumscribe economic opportunities for blacks, deny blacks justice in the courts, and terrorize anyone who dared disagree with them.
