TheHeretic -> RE: Freaking out over a clown??? (8/18/2013 11:41:19 AM)

Are you saying that we have to see all parody and mockery of President Obama through a filter of his race, before we see him as the President of the United States, DC?

How soon many forget... lol

Moonhead -> RE: Freaking out over a clown??? (8/18/2013 11:53:46 AM)

To be fair, the Dixie Chicks were wrong about that: the chimp wasn't from Texas at all, he just affected a fake accent because he thought it would be a good way of condescending to the stupider members of the electorate.

tazzygirl -> RE: Freaking out over a clown??? (8/18/2013 11:55:34 AM)

lol.. it doesnt matter.... they made a comment and the right went ape shit. Hell, i think the clown act was tasteless, but considering who they were pandering too, it seems appropriate.

No.

But I think it's also erroneous to imagine that historical echoes play no role in how folks perceive Obama-related comedy. They, as much as "insecurity," likely underlay the bipartisan response to the Missouri clown.

Moonhead -> RE: Freaking out over a clown??? (8/18/2013 11:58:54 AM)

All the response to this story (if you can dignify it by calling it that) in the link that somebody posted was from the right, not the left.
Which is an odd basis for a thread in which neocons are whining about the dreadful insecurity and control freakery of the Democrat party faithful, isn't it?

Do people have the right to be racists to any extent, in your opinion?

They have the right to be racist and others have the right not to do business with racists which is what is happening here.
No one was arrested they are just losing income because they did a truly disgusting and repugnant thing. Do not forget the economic backlash against the Dixie Chicks by the same cons now going apoplectic for simply saying they were ashamed W was from Texas.

What was so disgusting and repugnant?

As I responded to Moonhead in Post #16:
    quote:

I completely agree that they have the responsibility (not sure that's the right word, maybe others have the right to hold them accoutable might be a better way to state it? whatever... I'm sure we're in agreement on it) to be held accountable for their speech and actions. How was this racist, though? Is it unusual for a rodeo clown to portray a President? Kirata showed that this isn't the first time that's happened.

I completely agree that we need to be held accountable for our actions and out utterances. I'm not seeing racism in this action, though. That's where I'm really having an issue with this whole mess.

Are we going to prevent clowns from using "whiteface" from now on, too? No more masks of people... ever?

Your ignorance of the affairs you take such delight in commenting on isn't my concern, or problem, Moon.

I understand though. It must be awful to live someplace where you are not permitted to express such ideas about your own disintegrating home and culture.

Only until the libs reverse their "values," the next time they become inconvenient.

nope not an ironicator, at all, the difference is that we can scream and cry and demand redress for grievances and government simply does not listen.

see we have freedom of speech which does not mandate an affirmative action.

I'm glad you agree that there's more whining in this thread than in all of the vinyards of France put together, but perhaps you'd care to address my point about free speech (or its absence) in the 'States, rather than plucking one word out of my post and bolding it?

I think I already posted this somewhere today. free speech is government sacntioned speech, free means franchised among us british colonials and the supreme court confirmed it.

Free speech zone
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The free speech zone at the 2004 Democratic National Convention (different angle)

Free speech zones (also known as First Amendment Zones, Free speech cages, and Protest zones) are areas set aside in public places for political activists to exercise their right of free speech in the United States. The First Amendment to the United States Constitution states that "Congress shall make no law... abridging... the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." The existence of free speech zones is based on U.S. court decisions stipulating that the government may regulate the time, place, and manner—but not content—of expression. A free speech zone is more restrictive than an exclusion zone.

The Supreme Court has developed a four-part analysis to evaluate the constitutionality of time, place and manner (TPM) restrictions. To pass muster under the First Amendment, TPM restrictions must be neutral with respect to content, narrowly drawn, serve a significant government interest, and leave open alternative channels of communication. Application of this four-part analysis varies with the circumstances of each case, and typically requires lower standards for the restriction of obscenity and fighting words.

its a mockery in term of what people think free speech is, however it fits brit law to a T, you being brith would or should know that.

besides what congress and the states do is 2 different things. LOL

Because, freedom of speech means you can only post here if you are a right wing American. I say this because it is only them that tell me i cant post here as I am British.......

They also fail to reply when you ask them if they have the freedom of speech to say anything to anyone, IE tell a cop where to go. They also piss and moan if you point out we have just as much freedom of speech in the UK. I had one idiot tell me Homophobia shouldnt be a word, you have to ask why, dont you ?
