Men suffered higher unemployment and longer jobless periods after the Great Recession.

Is that ongoing now?

The current unemployment rate is 7.7% for men and 6.8% for women, so there is some disparity. Though I suspect a lot more women then men have voluntarily dropped out of the workforce to become homemakers and are thus not considered unemployed.. http://www.bls.gov/web/empsit/cpseea10.htm

Lets leave the snark at the door for a bit on this thread.

As much as people may not like the poster who typically discusses the problem's men are facing, he does have some valid points. So, lets list em. Cant discuss a problem without knowing what the problems are.

I agree that DV funding is terrible for men's DV shelters.

I agree that men are typically looked at as being predators while women get a blank pass.

I am not looking to pass blame here, just looking for a list of problems as both men and women see them. The reasons behind those problems - such as men are viewed as predators more than women because of stats - isnt what I am looking for at this point.

So, list away!

You know what's completely fucked up?

That a single man can't talk to a child.

On the other hand....few women want to fuck some kid....worse...when they do....they get months....men get years.....but what's even worse is....

It's TOTALLY fucked up that any adult fucks with a kid and doesn't spend 7 life times in prison.

The system ain't right.

Society definitely takes rape of men - especially female-on-male rape - less seriously than rape of women, and seems to shame men who report it even more than it shames women.

It used to be that society didn't take any rape or molestation seriously, but women's groups have made significant strides in changing the situation somewhat for female victims. Unfortunately the same cannot be said for male victims.

Then feminists point at the dictionary meaning and tell us what they are about.

Even with egg donation now possible, there's a lot more risk and hassle involved with it - I doubt any woman is going to become the biological mother of 1000 donor egg babies.

While I haven't looked into it extensively, I assume there is a reason that egg donors get paid thousands of dollars per donation. I've heard the process is.... not fun.

Having your ovaries stimulated can cause Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome as a side effect. Severe OHSS occurs in aprox 2% of women and requires hospitalisation, because it can, in rare instances, cause death.

AFAIK, no man has ever died as a direct result of donating his sperm.

"Patriarchy blaming" is a male issue as it enables, bias, prejudice, and sexism.

I'm sure a reasonable person can see that blaming a gender (patriarchy) for everything negative in the world is utterly and completely sexist.

Patriarchy is feminism's favourite scapegoat as women are just so innocent and perfect, they can't be at fault for anything.

Hanna Rosin, who did the other article, The Patriarchy Is Dead further explains why we should stop blaming patriarchy for all the ills in the world.

I haven't much to go on, admittedly, Nick, and this is very much a hunch rather than a confident observation - but I'm sensing that you don't like feminism very much. Is that correct?

Something I don't see on your list, Tazzy is that men do not get a say in whether or not a female should get an abortion. Yet if she elects to keep the child, he is responsible for child support. There is an inequity here, though I admit I don't know how to word it succinctly.

If that concerns them wear a fucking condom really this is such a 1980's issue for fuck sake.

haha, sorry, not into self flagellation :D

It's easy to find a male feminist who is though.

'1980s' is pretty modern for some of the more Neanderthal anti-feminist thinking rants we see here on CM. I'm supposing you kindly and deliberately erred on the side of generosity.

All feminists think the same way, Tweak. Just like all Australians. [;)]

Condoms are not 100% effective, even with perfect use. Apparently the issue from the 1980s is still not resolved in the 2010s.

There isn't any good reason why men can't be given a partial out. If you don't want the child, you give up all paternal rights, and your financial responsibility is terminated after a set amount of time (1 year?) as long as you do pay. Still nowhere near perfect, but it frees the father from having to pay child support for 18+ years for someone else's decision, while not leaving the mother suddenly cut off from financial support she was expecting to have.

A mother who decides after birth that she doesn't want her child can put the child up for adoption and have no further responsibility towards him/her after the adoption is complete. She also loses custody rights, obviously. Why can't the father be allowed similar freedom? If we're discussing already-born children, the "it's her body" argument no longer applies.

Not all feminists are the exact same but ALL feminist are similar. They have the same type of belief system. Men are the oppressors, women are the oppressed. Patriarchy is to blame for everything etc etc etc. Just like all people who follow a religion aren't the same but they hold the same type of belief system.

stef -> RE: What do you see as a "men's" issue? (9/14/2013 12:27:52 PM)

Just like all women-hating misogynists have the same belief system?

Then you haven't been following any of those who advocate/believe in equity feminism.

TizzyTara -> RE: What do you see as a "men's" issue? (9/14/2013 6:54:41 PM)

nick.... are you saying that the feminists are in some way 'anti women' i.e so caught up in their agenda that real, everyday women are in some way harmed?

naughtynick81 -> RE: What do you see as a "men's" issue? (9/14/2013 7:14:32 PM)

Tizzy, I never indicated that feminists are "anti women", but I do think contemporary feminism is doing more harm for men and women than it is doing any good.

cloudboy -> RE: What do you see as a "men's" issue? (9/14/2013 8:24:38 PM)

You could always move to Saudi Arabia. That's a country that knows how to keep women in their place. With the rampant feminism we see here in the USA, living conditions have really become intolerable. Women serving in the Senate, on the Supreme Court, making more money than their husbands -- it's just destroying the very fabric of America.

I can't see how criticising faults with feminism and expressing sexist attitudes against men is in some way "wanting to put women in their place".
