As for me, I can't really follow what exactly the heretic is saying.....

That's because the information that would be needed for complete comprehension can no longer be accessed. I assume the person the comments were directed to understood the references.

NoBimbosAllowed -> RE: Re: An update on posting style (9/23/2013 9:15:11 PM)

It's like voting. (hopefully my new avatar pic will kick in for this soon; visual gag that underscores the point). If someone votes, they get to complain, or attempt to alter the current protocol. If they don't, they don't. If Heretic has offered to be a mod by the requirements of THIS site (not others, not easier ones), then that's one thing. If he has not, it's another.

In less-than-capitalist countries where 70% of the population relies on public transit, if someone doesn't pay their taxes, they don't get to growl at the bus-driver.

But if they offered to be a bus driver for their community and were qualified but were turned down, they would.

Might I suggest that certain posters who do nothing but post personal attacks and then report any responses be banned. Most of us are grown ups and do not report posts even when disagreements get heated. However it is clear that certain posters are using the mods to lock/delete threads they are losing.

I have never reported anyone and I would rather not start.
Though we have disagreed, quite strongly at times you are not one of whom I was speaking

I didn't think you were. I have contempt for only a couple of posters here.

I will admit I have started reporting posts because the poster in question attacks freely and then reports all responses and I'm sick of it.

I think that is their goal, but what can you do?

NoBimbosAllowed -> RE: Re: An update on posting style (9/23/2013 9:31:40 PM)

and for that matter, who else here, other than the mods, have offered THEIR time to BE mods?

Don't want the hassle of doing their job so I don't complain about them, they have a truly thankless job.

IMO the mods should simply ban the people who pick fights and then report any responses.

TheHeretic -> RE: Re: An update on posting style (9/23/2013 10:03:32 PM)

Just to expand a bit here, if I did have the time available to serve as a moderator on this site, it would be completely inappropriate for me to do it in the P&R section. I'm connected to it. I have strong opinions. My perceptions of the material would be colored by that, no mattter how hard I lied and denied that I was even-handed. That bile-belching nutsucker shouting dude with the gotta-potty dance avatar would be fucking gone, for example. I'd have to do it in Ask a Mistress, or the Gor-verse, where I don't much give a shit except for chuckles, or even visit.

Yes I would have the same problem, my first target would be a laughable gentleman who seems to get every thread locked for insults. So I could not, in good conscience volunteer.

RottenJohnny -> RE: Re: An update on posting style (9/23/2013 10:24:23 PM)

For what it's worth, and since we're on the subject, I'd just like to take a quick moment to apologize to the mods (and posters) for any time I've said something out of bounds. I try not to be too obnoxious or vulgar but I find it hard not to respond in kind to someone who makes a personal attack against me. I know I'm guilty of flying off the handle on occasion but I try to keep things civil. I'm just the kind of person who tends to square off with an attacker instead of report them.

Oh, I don't think anyone's doing that. I'm pretty sure the only posts that are getting pulled are ones that violate the TOS.
Pretty much like Orion said:

<<People know what they are doing, so make them accountable. Moderate the bitches that are causing the problem, do it viciously, and allow those that are willing to discuss things without all the personal attacks do so>>

Seems a pretty good standard.

NoBimbosAllowed -> RE: Re: An update on posting style (9/23/2013 10:38:24 PM)

so the answer is no. "I couldn't vote, I had to finish the deposition on the very laws that allowed me to vote and allowed for the bar I passed that gave me the job which means I have to prepare this deposition."

and more.

"it would be completely inappropriate for me to do it in the P&R section. I'm connected to it." That cannot be proven. What can be proven is the amount of time you have to post against posting restrictions/freedoms and the amount of time either mod posting on this thread alone have to spend on-site.

Neither you, heretic, nor your detractors have any right to bitch unless your are willing to mod-up.

None of the smarmy snarky without having the ovaries to admit it passive aggressive females have the right to take one side or the other either in a way that implies as pragmatic effect.

If you don't vote, you don't get to bitch about policy.

If you don't run for offfice, in this case the office of a mod, then you don't get to bitch about moderation-policies. I have been more free-speech / anti-bullshit than YOU, muh man, elsewhere. But I was ALWAYS willing to be a mod, or in some cases involving REAL publication instead of blog-beatch and "selfie" crap, a group editor. So I know where the mud sticks to the wall, and that's when someone is willing to do the work. The work someone else is doing, which they complain about.

Or certain posters could stop throwing insults and then reporting responses.

"Or certain posters could stop throwing insults and then reporting responses."

to be fair, that is a very valid point, for EVERY message board and website and in fact goes back to the pre yahoo years on bbs boards.

Yes, I just got my first golden ticket. [sm=donttaseme.gif]

NoBimbosAllowed -> RE: Re: An update on posting style (9/23/2013 11:46:56 PM)

and did someone too gutless to offer their cognizance of "what's fair free speech and what's not" call me a 'sock'? Sans context? Oh yeah, there's a GREAT example of rpesumed free-speech. It's like Seth Rogan on a bong-bender claiming to do a Vegas stage show of Black Adder and invoking the thespian spirit of Rowan Atkinson while thinking "Titus Andronicus" is a brand of instant coffee.

Is there a translation for that ??

Locking threads when one or two posters decide they need to destroy the discussion only encourages more of the same behavior.

I've certainly watched that happen.

NoBimbosAllowed -> RE: Re: An update on posting style (9/24/2013 12:15:21 AM)

And the Heretic can be right in that, but again, one must cite context, and if one has a problem with it happening, one must say "I'll stop being a pussy and spending 70 hours a week on Playstation and spend 15 of those hours a week on being a moderator on the site on which I bitch about posting-policy".

This isn't happening.

That's a lie. And the practice is getting more common, and ever more blatant.

Claiming that a thread about an ideological wing in the forum is the same as singling out an individual?

Deleting a thread and prohibiting the subject from P&R, when those who turn every tragedy involving a firearm into a smear of all gun owner have a mass murderer who used a bus shoved back at them?

Shark jump. Ain't buying it.

This is one of those times I wish collarme had a thumbs up like button!

NoBimbosAllowed -> RE: Re: An update on posting style (9/24/2013 12:19:58 AM)

and a "I'll back up my hype by becoming a mod on the site that requires SO MANY HOURS to moderate" button.
