amazing that SO many people bullhorn the opinions on moderation, without (ala Oscar Wilde) and moderation, yet fall down from crumbling legs and feet of clay sculpted from the fact they've not offered to do the same hours on the job for the same lack of pay. Which, considering the fact that I am primarily a responsible capitalist in nature, I find "eye-brow raising, and no-matter what the previous definitions of "ironic" might be, under today's definition, bone-headed or not, t'is ironic.

anyone with a complaint about the moderation can publicly, here, put up their hand and ask to become a mod, or start their own site and be chief amongst-mods. Like, in film, Chaplin did.

NoBimbosAllowed -> RE: Re: An update on posting style (9/24/2013 10:02:35 PM)

I had ONE "naughty naughty" notification over the use of ONE 'half-word". In several contexts but not all contexts, saying "we'll delete posts with this word based off the neutral Latin 'tardia'..." is fair unless I take the time to bring up a context in which tardia (versus the half-word I used after a hyphen in reference to dipshit frat-craps who were part and parcel of the Global Financial Crisis), and point out that applications of "tardia"can fairly be used in the acknowledged length and breadth of the word's semiotic use to describe people whom CHOOSE to back-track or sloow down their cultural and litrary development.

meaning folks who opt to be fist-slinging tequila-shot-barfing sport-wanks deified on MTV spring-break before they go on to ruin millions of lives on wall-eyed-street.

NoBimbosAllowed -> RE: Re: An update on posting style (9/24/2013 10:30:34 PM)

Hello Kirata.

I do not want the position, but I have been a mod before and an even-handed one, on sites with actors and writers and fundamentalists and neon-pagans. I would accept the position. But I recognize and stand against narcissitic bullshit and reaction-for-the-sake-of-hits-and-views (which is of itself Narcissism), while not being willing to delete something that's fair.

If I am offered a position to balance Dom Ken and Heretic I would accept.

I would not be politically correct enough to last long however, because I stand against "isms", but I know from experience that allowing candied-responses to rule the day will - in terms of long game versus short game - weaken the positions of women, bisexuals ghetto-ized by pride parades, people over 40 in the traditional Queer Dating Line-Up, the argument over Equality In Marriage, full (accurate) education RE the founding and foundations of nations that affect us all WITHOUT CHERRY PICKING, etc.

and vicious debate, sound but VICIOUS debate, was MANDATORY and required for the USA to be founde dand thus this very site upon which we now parry and thrust with each other. If someone is being an azzzzzzzzzzzzwipe, then as a mod, since that term has no "ism" aspect to it, and can embrace equality stating that any pseudo feminist an be an azzzzzzzzzzzzzwipe just alongside a pseudo patriot alongside a lazzzzzzzzzy arsssssse appppppp-wannnnnnnnnk then I'd JOYOUSLY become a mod and ALWAYS allow ANY word that hammered anything home to underscore the point, in context, despite a million whining half azzzzzzzed "complaint messages", because words like "azzzzzzzzzzzzzwiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiipes" looking at the cosmetics of the words used, verus their content, and applied meaning. Which renders the "complainer" a coward, equally so, whether caucausian or african or latin or asian based, whether gay/straight, etc.

But the problem is that all message boards and FaceFuck and Twatter are engines that run on the fuel of da-da-istic bullshIt amounting to "I am important because I post" or "I am a feminist because I say I am" and "I am an anti-establishment person who will argue for the sake of arguing [nonheretic] etc." and I'll not buy into any of that. If ya'll wanna suck the philosophically syphilitic thimble-size nerf-cock of Zucky-wuckyberg, do be it, that's your choice. But I don't see a requirement, as a mod, to buy into that. Should I, KIrata?

sufficiently "respectful to you answer", Kirata?

VideoAdminGamma -> RE: Re: An update on posting style (9/25/2013 1:34:49 AM)

A lot of time is taken Kirata. If two posters are constantly going at each other over multiple topics and continue to do so after staff has spent the time to document and pull their posts, post warnings, send messages and the other hours of time, yes they will both likely suffer administrative actions.

When it is seen over a period of months and countless pages of discussion, that two people do not have the ability to remain on topic, and constantly bicker at each other, causing the discussion to become hijacked by their bickering, yes both of them will likely have time outs.

Now if these are new posters it may be understandable, but posters that have been here for years, been warned about these things before, and know what they are doing. Sorry but time, research and niceness has already been spent many times.

If you have any further questions , please do contact Chi.

Ah, ye olde Kindergarten Rule. It doesn't matter who started it. Saves so much bother, doesn't it? After all, why should anyone take the trouble to sort out the realities of an exchange? I especially liked the part about how everybody is an adult, but since twue adults apparently never become angry or rude, anyone who does will be treated like a child. Gotta love it when people who are unpleasant and impatient think it's everyone else who needs to grow up.

Darn right it takes a lot of time. It especially takes a lot of time if someone decides to trawl through threads that are weeks or even months old to find real or imagined transgressions and bring them back to the top after they've been long forgotten.

Some people call that Moderation.

I call it picking at scabs to try to start the bleeding all over.

There is at least one poster who comes on to threads proclaiming his contempt for everyone who does not agree with him and adding virtually nothing but insults to the conversation.
It seems as if he is attempting to get any conversation he can't win by intimidation locked.
My problem is that reporting him gives him just what he seems to desire, a locked thread.

I've been wondering if this is our fault. The solution might be to let trolls get a few posts out and then report all of them, sacrifice a few threads to get trolls banned.

What do you suggest other than another un-moderated thread so if nothing else he can be put in his place?

People become mods for many reasons. Not everyone is a capitalist and worships only those things that bring a monitary remuniration.
If one chooses to be a mod and does a poor job of it wy should't those being moderate express their concern?

I would start the vocabulary ban with:

Teabagger(s)
Nazi(s)
Nutsack(ers)
Asswipe(s)

Oh heck... just take any of mnottertail's posts and discount the articles, conjunctions and personal pronouns. That'll give you a good start.

I would start the ban by immediately disallowing any thread started by a teabagger as flaming, bashing, baiting and factless that has no CREDIBLE citation, but uses offbeat and frivolous hallucinatory blowholing (partial list follows) and no researched and proven fact.

I would then go on to permaban any teabagger who cited yahoo, msnbc, wnd, breitbart, boortz, faux nuze, the daily mail, examiner, drudge report, zero hedge, rush limbaugh, or any other talking head of the right, or called any of the opinion pieces fact, or quoted darrell issa, or ted cruz, or any other teabagger as having any commerce with fact.

I would also dissallow the words marxist, socialist, liberal, progressive, independent, tea party, and several others from being written by teabaggers, as well as the words 'fiscal responsibility' or anything akin to it by teabaggers, since they have no knowledge of what those words mean.

It would be found in short order that they really have nothing credible or useful to say.

And I have never seen the word nutsackers used here, perhaps you could give me an example of that. But now Fet makes sense. . .LOL.

Hillwilliam you were told before it was a mistake. I was told by Alpha at that time to search for a certain term and remove those posts. As I did I came upon others that had violations. As it worked backwards I did not see a date. Everyone makes mistakes, and I admitted it at the time. So you can try to derail this with your tired beating of a dead horse, or you can move forward.

You can contact Chi about any further issues with something that was settled long ago.

Now back to the comment. The time invested I was speaking is that of all staff. Not just myself. Now is there anything not already addressed that you have a comment about?

Yes, I took a day off from the fight and decided to adopt that approach with the very limited number of people who always turn into an insult contest.

Indeed, I was told that one instance was a mistake.
I was also referring to your old habit of finding forgotten threads that had slipped to page 2 or 3 of P&R and bringing them back to the top with a nice announcement that "Several Posts have been removed from this thread blah blah blah" and just coincidentally moving the forgotten thread back to the top.

I bet you enjoyed watching the monkeys dance as the drama began anew didn't you?

Pick that scab and start the bleeding all over again.
As for beating a dead horse, you haven't shown yourself for over a year so it's hard to come up with something recent.

If you wonder why I apparently have ill feelings in your direction you may wish to think of this old saw.

Tickets aren't necessarily addressed in the order in which they were received - several things can cause a delay. When the thread is cleaned and reopened it will indeed have been moved up a page or two. This is actually common when there is a plethora of tickets for multiple threads and many new threads are pushing them down.

DaddySatyr -> RE: Re: An update on posting style (9/25/2013 8:08:15 AM)

There are certain moderators who have shown themselves to have a personal agenda; otherwise, their moderating decisions would make little sense.

I remember getting a gold-bordered letter (which was later expunged) because I dared to mention capital punishment on a thread about 6 cold-blooded killers being set free. I was told it was because my post was "hijacking the thread". Complete bullshit on a cracker.

No agenda; be it personal, political, or otherwise there. Right?

Sorry but that claim doesn't even pass the giggle test.

It seems to me that to volunteer to do something and then complain about what it takes out of you has a simple resolution: stop volunteering or suck it up and drive on.

If it is old enough to have been forgotten, it doesn't necessarily have to be returned to the top does it?
There have been a few that have been locked and left that way recently and they are forgotten and stayed that way.
I also seem to remember seeing threads that were locked, cleaned and reopened without the grand announcement about reopening that weren't bumped to the top,

VideoAdminChi -> RE: Re: An update on posting style (9/25/2013 9:02:10 AM)

Yes, if a thread is simply unlocked without a new comment, it will retain its current position. But I think people would prefer to know when a thread is available for posting again.
