VideoAdminGamma -> RE: Re: An update on posting style (9/25/2013 11:10:28 AM)

We can beat this horse now. As Chi pointed out there are things in the ticket system that cause some tickets to become less than visible or in a different order than by date. One of these is the priority they are given by the person making the ticket. At the time of the two incidents, only one ticket was a week old and the other was a couple of days. There was never a ticket done that was over a week old.

I was the only one working tickets at that time, there was no other staff to assist. 27 tickets to process and all you do is just the work. The one that was a week old was waiting for Alpha to make a decision based on my recommendations. That week old one led to a poster that most disliked in the extreme to be moderated, then eventually banned for abusing the ticket system worse than the example Chi gave earlier.

Now if there is not anything else, I am going to work on the site.

If you have anything else, please just mail Chi with it.

Thank you for being a part of CollarMe,

Indeed, I was told that one instance was a mistake.
I was also referring to your old habit of finding forgotten threads that had slipped to page 2 or 3 of P&R and bringing them back to the top with a nice announcement that "Several Posts have been removed from this thread blah blah blah" and just coincidentally moving the forgotten thread back to the top.

I bet you enjoyed watching the monkeys dance as the drama began anew didn't you?

Pick that scab and start the bleeding all over again.
As for beating a dead horse, you haven't shown yourself for over a year so it's hard to come up with something recent.

If you wonder why I apparently have ill feelings in your direction you may wish to think of this old saw.

VideoAdminGamma -> RE: Re: An update on posting style (9/25/2013 11:23:48 AM)

At the time you are complaining about, again, Alpha's rule was to post at the end of a topic when it was cleaned. We also did not lock threads at that time to clean them. Thanks to Chi, Rho and Omni, there is more staff working the tickets and forums, other than just me. Since a year ago Chi and the rest of the staff have done an amazing and thankless job. These things you are complaining about are a year and two years old.

Tell you what, if they happen again I will stand in town square and let you tar and feather me. Deal?

Thank you for being a part of CollarMe,

If it is old enough to have been forgotten, it doesn't necessarily have to be returned to the top does it?
There have been a few that have been locked and left that way recently and they are forgotten and stayed that way.
I also seem to remember seeing threads that were locked, cleaned and reopened without the grand announcement about reopening that weren't bumped to the top,

I will vouch for this having been heavily involved in it, I had tickets more than a month old, and part of the difficulty was that poster we have all alluded to here, had scads and scads and scads of tickets against me (and probably others) and I received a ban for I believe it was two weeks at that time (not due to his tickets but a post on fetlife of all things) and he subsequently for two weeks. He obviously went on to greater accomplishments.

As to what happened specifically with others (including you, Hill) I cannot say.

But I can tell you the ticket system was big fucked up and plugged. And it was cleared (obviously with some minor collateral damages to some of us) rather handily. And I will assume that the part of it being by Gamma alone must be true, because I got lotsa pumpkin papers in those days and all by Gamma, no one else. I had to account for every word I wrote in those days and justify it and its meaning and subject in the context of the sentence.

Actually, Ron, from memory, I've only been on moderation once and that was back in the Mod21 days, for a week (I think).

I've been mostly absent lately because of other things going on in my life. And, honestly, because of my disgust at some posters on both sides of the aisle who simply had no interest in anything other than doing their best to taut their superiority of beliefs and their use of passive aggressive bullying.

It's the passive aggressive crap that pisses me off the most, and it is a thing that is very difficult to moderate.

I've no real complaints about moderation, though. I disagree sometimes, and would do some things differently but recognize that the line is diffuse and we only see a small part of a situation.

Correction. Instead of:

Actually, Ron, from memory, I've only been on moderation once and that was back in the Mod21 days, for a week (I think).

It should have read:

Actually, Ron, from memory, I've only been on moderation once and that was back in the Mod11 days, for a week (I think).

Sorry, 21! [:(]

Yeah, I was thinking about that.......but let it slide.

However, I should have listed Rich before you, and I am surprised it was only a week Firm. Well that 4th spot would go to sanity were he still here, but he is not, so I am going to guess, unless you have cavils with the other three names, thats as big as the list gets, cuz the next one down would not hold a candle to anyone elses here, who is still here.

Arturas -> RE: Re: An update on posting style (9/25/2013 12:01:09 PM)

I've been on here for years. The Mods do a great job. I don't expect their effort to satisfy me always but I also don't expect to satisfy them all the time because I too am human. When they lock a thread or kill a bunch of posts, it might not always be a perfect job and may leave one insult too many or delete a post used by a person to defend themselves against flaming. As you know, flaming is what happens when someone posts a position contrary to a position not liked by a CM clique, and we all know they exist, and the flaming starts and then the cool and calm and amazingly handsome and strong willed real time Dom who is the subject of a clique attack calmly (did I mention he is cool?) deflects the wind but in doing so sometimes gets caught in the Mod sweep or is the target of the Mod sweep because it simply is the quickest way to stop the tickets. I know it should not happen but I also know I could not do better than they and I'm amazed the Mods, including Mod21 who I never had issues with back in the day, do so well.

This was a Free Reply btw.

That depends on how you figure costs, but I'll grant that it was exceedingly modest.

I'm pretty sure Domiguy spent way more time on moderation than any of those. Mod XI hated him.

A lot of time is taken...

Well if time is such an issue, then one obvious solution is less moderation, not more. Things seem to have a way of taking care of themselves when left alone to do so. Some trolls are ignored, others are fed a diet that causes them to bloat and explode. People who engage in thread-jacking shitfests end up facing the displeasure of their peers, and most actors quit the stage when the audience starts throwing vegetables.

Plus, everyone gets to see the posters' true colors. Cleaning up threads amounts to running a laundry service for the resumes of jerks. It seemed to me that our unmoderated Zimmerman thread was better overall than most of the moderated ones. Perhaps people tend to be a bit more circumspect when they know that giving in to their dark side will provoke an unpleasant response without the option of calling a Forum Nanny.

Probably not an option, given the prevailing philosophy. But the world did not end, and everyone survived.

K.

He did and helped get me busted here from a post on Fet. But that is only the list of those who still post here, otherwise............lolol. But thompsonx would still be number one, and I would hang out behind domi. But that wouldnt be fair because it would be all three leftwingers (as the rumors have it) who were most moderated, as it is it is two of us now, so if there is a moderator favoritism, there are unintended consequences for the teabaggers when we get down to the numbers and stats.

Well if we take long term statistics into account of course liberals come out way behind. Mod XI didn't even bother pretending to be even handed in the last year or so she was around. More recently I've seen what looks to be about even numbers of the non trolls on both sides getting moderated. The problem is there are way more trolls on the right which I guess if people think ABM, and all his socks, contributed anything at all then it could look like liberals got favorable treatment.

Arturas -> RE: Re: An update on posting style (9/25/2013 12:42:12 PM)

So, how did this get to be a thread about Mods? I'm sure they are popular and I suppose it would be easier to put blame on Mods rather than discuss style but I will discuss style mostly and a little about Mods, only a little.

There are just a few styles here. 1) The newbee who is not to be feared and posts according to the TOS without even trying just because they are new and needing friends and want to please. I wish we all stayed that way.

2) The Lurker. The occasional poster who lurks most of the time and jumps in when they see something they know something about or are interested in. They are fun and I enjoy them whenever they show their faces here.

3)The owners. They don't really own CM but they do pretend they do and posters 1 and 2 soon learn who they are and what their cliques are and who is in them. These "owners" lead cliques and they spend hours here convincing others they are experts in everything and holding on to this social position but are normally too clever to trip the TOS trigger while accomplishing their goals.

4) Lone wolves. These come in three varieties. One is the trouble maker because they use the forum to exercise their anti-social ways. The second is the well meaning person just trying to be themselves and socialize here. The third are accomplished experts in BDSM whos presence tends to threaten "The owners" and who may be counted on to take positions based on experience rather than the clique view.

These styles are present in any social media and certainly different styles make for it not to be too boring here, but only those media with Moderators can be counted on to be enjoyable to those who are honest in their goals and efforts to socialize here just as they would outside the forum and the Moderators and their "report" buttons are always necessary (IMHO) to a well functioning online forum. Necessary because these posting styles are driven by people with different goals and internal constraints just as they exist in the real world. Necessary also because, to many forum users, this social media is the real world and that means "laws" and "police" are necessary here and neither are perfect here or in the real world, just as we who use the forum are very imperfect. Except for me, of course.

mnottertail -> RE: Re: An update on posting style (9/25/2013 12:45:49 PM)

and you forgot the most common one, those who post drivel as fact and suffer dunning-kruger to a handicapping degree thinking that they are pontificating to the great unwashed and clueless masses with their horseshit.

But it is not. It is about posting styles...

It's about the posts that proceed this in reply to mine. Notice they fit perfectly to the style that is the subject, those posters who persist in making other posters the topic, the poster who has another view and one who actually is not attacking any one person but instead is discussing the subject and whose view some disagree with (along with my self serving unabashed praise for myself). Let's face it, some hate success.

Mod Chi has posted the following on a thread where it is not possible to reply, hence a new thread for the subject

Sorry if we are burning you out, Chi, but banning personal pronouns isn't going to fix anything. The posters in this forum frequently speak directly to each other. The problem is not with the style or verbiage of that. If someone posts blatant lies, then saying, "you are a fucking liar," is the appropriate response.

Locking threads when one or two posters decide they need to destroy the discussion only encourages more of the same behavior.

And while we are on the subject, locking threads because they don't fit the desired political template of the moderator's views is an abuse of the power entrusted to the moderator of political forum.

Which pretty clearly makes moderation and the moderators the subject.
