Yeah ive done it a couple of times
the first time I sat outside in the blazing sun for five hours waiting for the train to leave. I really hate walking around the damn place with luggage, funnily enough I sat on barricades!!

mnottertail -> RE: Barrycades (10/5/2013 9:08:33 AM)

Your president, insuring your individual comfort as you produce for america. God bless Obama, caring for citizenry while the teabaggers try to create death squads for us all.

That doe not seem to be Barack Obama. Or maybe you are pretending to not know what the kill whitey hoax was about?

If it was about Obama, then no I don't know. And fuck your pretensions to mind-reading.

Though the far-right would prefer that we forget, the "movement" originally embraced the "Teabagger" label. Activists put it on their clothing, pins, and their placards all the time, completely unaware of the slang/sexual connotation. It was common for much of the year for observers -- protestors, journalists, politicians, etc. -- to use the word "Teabagger," not in a malicious or mocking way, but because the groups themselves were using the same word.

The hell you say.

I have never seen one person in the tea party movement call themselves a teabagger. And the only time I've seen that used is by opponents of the party, including one famous ringer who attempted to portray that she was a tea partier.

EVER.

And even if you find one person or a dozen that did as you said it HARDLY constitutes endorsement by the movement as a whole who- as you KNOW finds it offensive.

So you know it isn't something the tea partiers accept; you know it is offensive.
So a): You are lying.
b): You are using terms deliberately offensive.

Way to go, reasoned discourse!

Before banking on Metro these days, especially on a weekend, it's wise to check wmata.com to see what delays and station closings are afoot.

Poor Metro is not aging gracefully. Then again, neither am I.

It was petty bullshit theater then as well, DC.

One of these years, the pieces are all going to fall into place for the grand cross-country road trip I've been wanting to do for a long time, and I'll finally spend a week or so checking out the Capitol and seeing the sights. I'm going to make damn sure I get there in the springtime though, to avoid nonsense like this.

I'd say "petty bullshit theater" is an apt description of the whole situation, alas.

My favorite memory of the 1995-96 shutdown is that we had a blizzard the weekend before the government was finally due to reopen. It was as if Mother Nature were saying, "I'll show you self-important amateurs what a real shutdown looks like!" Everything was closed Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. My cats were glaring at me, saying "Will you please get the fuck out of here and let us sleep?" We struggled in to work on Thursday, only to get a fresh batch of snow that closed everything again Friday.

Throughout the shutdown, there'd been much discussion--mostly jovial but not always--about who was and wasn't essential. On Tuesday, I feared the usual volunteers for St. Margaret's homeless breakfast program might not have been able to get there. Since I lived nearby, I trekked over and pitched in. It was the one time all week I knew I was doing something essential.

Then you can see the cherry blossoms too!

Well last time I spent any significant time there was the mid 90's and back then Metro was really the way to go to get downtown. Kind of depressing if it isn't being properly maintained.

If at all possible get there when the cherries are in bloom. Late March to mid April. It is easily the best time of year in DC. It will be crowded though.

And so once again, you don't answer the question, including the question as to why you don't.

Why is that?

Over a drink, that might have been funny. With coffee, it's just a stupid waste of time. Your post even plainly admits that barriers to access were erected. We may, somewhere down the road, learn exactly who sent the trucks and crews out to put them up, but absent that, we can state with 100% certainty that it was done by the Obama administration.

So here is what actually happened. No sign of President Obama ordering cops to attack, no locked fences erected by any construction equipment, the veterans themselves saying nobody turned away. And a clear blue sky.

So in this case, National Park Closed meant 'Not in operation, no one here to guide you or help you', not 'You will be arrested'.

If you say so...

"Negro" and "Colored" were once embraced politically by groups too but I doubt you'd get a whole lot of play using them on these forums today.

EdBowie -> RE: Barrycades (10/5/2013 1:00:54 PM)

No, they don't (there is a long line in the chain of command between the President, and whoever had those signs bulk printed and placed at the entrance to all US Park Service exhibits on Monday), and no they haven't (been reinforced).

The claim that was initially fomented was that President Obama personally ordered a fence built around the WWII Memorial, and sent armed personnel there to physically stop the veterans from entering.

Excuse me but the Parks Department was ordered to place Barry-Cades around the National Mall by the Office of Management and Budget, which ANSWERS DIRECTLY TO THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES.

Park Service says Obama admin ordered closure of World War II Memorial

Furthermore, the initial Barry-cades have been strengthened and stabilized since Tuesday. I went down there yesterday and its an abomination!

FatDomDaddy -> RE: Barrycades (10/5/2013 1:05:38 PM)

I was there yesterday.... you'll need some decent tools to move them now. The Barry-cades are wired shut, and surrounded by mesh fencing.

Your "question" assumed that I was familiar with the spin doctoring being run up the flagpole. I asked you spell it out. That has not happened.

What has happened is that you confirmed the very events being discussed, ie, the installation of barricades around the memorials and monuments.

EdBowie -> RE: Barrycades (10/5/2013 1:07:25 PM)

So all those veterans in the pictures simply levitated over these welded shut barricades? How did they get past the snipers? [8|]

Are you going for some sort of record in refusing to answer a simple question?

Because you've had your 3 strikes.

That was Tuesday. Yesterday was Friday... there were also EIGHT horse patrol officers at the WWII Memorial yesterday.
