Consider how much whining will occur amongst certain conservatives if some one does paint graffiti on one of these?

Gawd yes! I'm sick of these damn "cons" starting one thread after another screaming their bloody heads off about the vandalization of the Lincoln Memorial.

Is there anything at all the modern conservative movement won't whine about?

How about a Republican Congresswoman complaining that nonessential personnel aren't at work?
http://fayobserver.com/articles/2013/10/04/1287133?sac=fo.home

Or a Congressman verbally abusing a Park Service employee simply doing what she was told to do?

U.S. Rep. Renee Ellmers of Dunn said a law passed Monday evening was supposed to keep thousands of Fort Bragg's civilian employees and contractors on the job instead of furloughed when the federal government shutdown started Tuesday...

Ellmers wants to know why 400,000 Defense Department employees, including at least 7,000 at Fort Bragg, were laid off Tuesday despite the law. "This was signed into law by President Obama and has been in effect since Monday, yet the president is refusing to enforce it.

Objecting to the Administration not enforcing the law? What a complainer!

“How do you deny [the public] access? I don’t get that,” Neugebauer said. After the ranger said it is difficult telling people the memorial is closed, the congressman responded, “Parks Service should be ashamed of themselves".

When the Ranger said she wasn't ashamed, Neugebauer said, "Well you should be," and walked away.

Uncalled for, fair enough. But you're the one who's whining.

How exactly would a law expanding what is considered essential civilian defense employees be implemented literally over night? Did you not even bother to check that the law leaves open to interpretation which jobs are covered which means someone somewhere has to write an implementing regulation? So yes, despite you nonsensical complaint the whining was completely unreasonable. Does your foot hurt now?

Ashamed of doing her job? Verbally abusing a woman doing the job the only way that particular Congressman and his allies left her to do her job? The Congressman was whining that having the Mall monuments closed was a visible reminder to the public of the shitty job the House Republicans are doing. So yes again unreasonable whining. How do your feet feel now?

EdBowie -> RE: Barrycades (10/5/2013 7:08:00 AM)

I notice you couldn't quite bring yourself to answer the question. Why is that?

The claim that was initially fomented was that President Obama personally ordered a fence built around the WWII Memorial, and sent armed personnel there to physically stop the veterans from entering. That is a hoax. It never happened. There was no fence, there are pictures in every news source clearly showing the veterans at the Memorial, there are interviews with the veterans themselves, at the Memorial.

And the 'barricades', turned out to be nothing more that the ordinary portable guide rails that are set up on busy days to form lines, or to guide pedestrians around obstacles... they are about 3 ft. high.

The false claim that the veterans were turned away, or that they had to fight their way in by pummeling the guards, and ripping the locks off the fence and tearing it down, comes from the likes of Michelle Bachman, Steve King, Rand Paul, Ted Cruz, and Randy Neugebarger... all of whom had 'better things to do' than serve in the military themselves.

In other words, another UmbrellaGate, another Kill Whitey video, another $20 million dollar a day trip to France, another Kenyan birth certificate... another hoax.

By 'this action' are you talking about the hoax that never happened? I imagine it will stay active as long as someone is willing to pay internet posters to keep spreading it.

A hoax that never happened... Now that is a spin I hadn't heard yet (I do have a job to go off to, and a wife to tie up and hurt, so I don't catch everything, especially if it comes off a cable news talking head, or emailed talking points).

Please, do elaborate, EdBowie. I'm fascinated. Will the story start with a liberal redefinition and explanation of what conservatives "really believe and stand for," and only work within the artful construction of that fantasy? Are the Koch Brothers behind it all? Photoshop? Did somebody do the "research" and find out it is all Bush's fault?

We are in a situation where the President of United States is clearly demonstrating that he views the people he was elected to lead as either props to be exploited, or enemies to be punished, and some of the shit the liberal spinmeisters are running up the flagpole is just amusing as hell.

I'm going to go make myself a bourbon and (Mexican) Coke. Let's hear this one!

When a Congressman has reason to believe that a law is being "interpreted" in a way that is at odds with its purpose, that is called a principled objection. To make things clearer, I'll give you an example of whining shortly.

Granting that it was uncalled for, it's a long way from calling your political opponents "terrorists" and employing the Harry High School tactic of using a sexual allusion to refer to them.

And that's without even mentioning (here comes that example) that asking if there's "anything at all the modern conservative movement won't whine about" is, itself, whining.

FR...

I find the liberal posters response here as predictable as they are funny.

The Lincoln Memorial more than any structure on the Mall or for that matter in the city, as I mentioned before has a bastion for lost and reflective souls since it went up. It has been opened to the public (like all the monuments there) 24/7/365 throughout its history (when not under structural repair) and was not shut down by President Reagan in 1987 for any budget cuts, though the info center was closed as is normally the case in shut downs. BTW... speaking of which It was also never shut down during the TWELEVE times Tip O'Neill presided as Speaker, including an EIGHTEEN day shutdown in September of 1978!

TheHeretic -> RE: Barrycades (10/5/2013 8:01:28 AM)

Over a drink, that might have been funny. With coffee, it's just a stupid waste of time. Your post even plainly admits that barriers to access were erected. We may, somewhere down the road, learn exactly who sent the trucks and crews out to put them up, but absent that, we can state with 100% certainty that it was done by the Obama administration.

Excuse me but the Parks Department was ordered to place Barry-Cades around the National Mall by the Office of Management and Budget, which ANSWERS DIRECTLY TO THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES.

Park Service says Obama admin ordered closure of World War II Memorial

Furthermore, the initial Barry-cades have been strengthened and stabilized since Tuesday. I went down there yesterday and its an abomination!

mnottertail -> RE: Barrycades (10/5/2013 8:17:17 AM)

The Teabags in place. The economy is being destroyed by teabaggers and the country is crumbling. I think that the parks are way down the line in terms of importance. But I gotta laugh at the predictable responses of the teabaggers.

Lucylastic -> RE: Barrycades (10/5/2013 8:20:30 AM)

you dont think that the self imolation in the national mall or the suicide by cop chick in the car has anything to do with the extra "barriers"

nah its all the prezs actions..sure sure
It took me two hours from the beltway exit to get to the bus station two weeks ago, because of barriers for a number of "events", and that was WAYYYYYYY before the shutdown.

I have to ask... Exactly who are these "Teabaggers"?

Are they one particular group of people? Is it "anyone" who is opposition to the Obama Administration and its Policies? Are there specific posters you are calling out as these "Teabaggers". How does one become a "Teabagger"? Has there been an office response or press release from "Teabaggers" on the Government Shutdown. Does one have to be a member of some group to be called a "Teabagger? How many Teabaggers are there? Is there an official place to sign up for the moniker?

Over the course of your responses on this and other threads any opposition at all to President Obama, in anyway, makes one a "Teabagger".

It would be nice if you would illuminate on exactly which of these "Teabaggers" had the authority to have the Office of Management and Budget to have the United States Parks Department block off open air monuments or the open parking lots next to Mount Vernon or 1,100 miles of open Ocean in Biscayne Bay. (note to Mods, this is specifically about this thread)

If you don't have the subject knowledge, then you are rather fucked aren't you? Probably shouldn't be involved.

It was fenced off in 1987 just like the reflecting pool. You can keep saying it wasn't but I was there and it was. It wasn't a budget cut it was a shutdown, mid December 1987.

Do not drive in DC if you can avoid it. The streets are designed to be a pain to get around on.

Lucylastic -> RE: Barrycades (10/5/2013 8:56:24 AM)

I dont drive...period... but my sub picks me up at union station every time I go down(five times this year so far), and takes me back when its time to come home, he used to work in the city, but he hates it now.
Im now thinking that Its worth getting on the MARC for a three hour trip rathre than the mess

Depending on where he lives it might be simpler and faster, depending on the amount of luggage and other stuff just to catch the Metro train. There is a station right at Union Station which is where the Greyhounds unload.

mnottertail -> RE: Barrycades (10/5/2013 9:05:42 AM)

Though the far-right would prefer that we forget, the "movement" originally embraced the "Teabagger" label. Activists put it on their clothing, pins, and their placards all the time, completely unaware of the slang/sexual connotation. It was common for much of the year for observers -- protestors, journalists, politicians, etc. -- to use the word "Teabagger," not in a malicious or mocking way, but because the groups themselves were using the same word.
