ORIGINAL: tommonymous If it's truly meant as a "zombie apocalypse" gun, you really ought to add some type of iron-sight setup to the gun, and some slugs to the kit. Batteries aren't dependable in all conditions for indeterminate amounts of time, and slugs let you stop some things that buck simply won't. Like zombie black bears or zombie elephants. Or those assholes in the pickup that keep driving past instead of picking you up. It still has the bead. The sights are on rails and come off easily. The thought of Zombie bears and elephants is rather humbling isn't it? In the bandoleers I have some slugs. quote:

ORIGINAL: ResidentSadist My Zombie Apocalypse gun is a Mossberg 500, also my home defender. It took a while to find all the stuff I wanted on it. I still haven't found the over sized safety for it yet, but that is the only thing left to do. The low recoil ammo is really sweet. Hey RS, I'm curious, what do you think if that side fore-grip? I've used a Remington 870 and a Mossberg 500, but only with a bottom fore-grip, and more often just the standard pump. It seems like holding it sideways like that would be awkward? You hold it straight up and shoot from the hip like a Sten submachine gun. For a survival weapon, I wanted it to be flexible so it shoots well from the shoulder or the hip. This gun was meant to be my "go to" gun. It has to be able to hold it's own in a riot. Hence the 141 rounds on board. Now, if you have ever fired over hundred of rounds of shoulder wracking / hand numbing buckshot ammo through a shotgun before, you know it gets rough after a while. It is easy to mis-rack the gun and your shoulder will get sore eventually. That's why I wanted it to shoot comfortably and accurately from the hip or the shoulder, hence the side grip. I used the spring loaded shock absorbing Blackhawk stock with pistol grip and Phoenix Tech forend with 3 sets of rails. On the bottom rail I have the Magpul AFH2 for secure racking assist while shooting from the shoulder. It really helps prevent a mis-rack. On the side rail I have the foldable side grip for holding the gun low and shooting from the hip, the same way you would hold the Mossberg Chainsaw version pictured below. I have the laser sight for shooting accurately from the hip and the holographic reflex quick sight for shooting from the shoulder. I chose a shotgun because it puts more lead on target per minute than an SMG. I chose the Mossberg because it is the only shotgun to pass the US Army's Mil-Spec 3443E test, 3,000 rounds of full power 12 gauge buckshot without jamming.
