FR-

I wonder (assuming that this becomes reality) how this will affect the cost of Obamacare..

"A new Gallup poll reveals that 28% of those surveyed have no intention of signing up for health insurance, as required by the Affordable Care Act and will pay the fine instead. "

http://www.thestreet.com/story/12137472/1/forget-obamacare-one-in-four-americans-say-theyll-pay-the-fine.html?puc=yahoo&cm_ven=YAHOO

The success of this insurance depends on the young and healthy purchasing it to "subsidize" the old and health challenged. Then the dumb bastard eliminates MORE than half of the young by letting them ride free on their parents plans! (ride free up to age 26) WTF?

I have been thinking about that.. "letting them ride free until 26".. are they really riding free tho? considering that many of them will be shouldering tens of thousands in student debt and likely still living at home as a result (trying to keep that student debt as low as possible).. how many ways should these young adults be financially strangled?.. imo, today's young people are gonna get screwed in so many ways as it is..

And imo, the govt is giving something these kids/young adults will pay for very dearly once they hit 26.. its a version of the salesmans "puppy dog close".. letting someone try something out for a while so they get used to having it so less likely to want to give it up..

You don't have to be Muslim. You can tell them its against your "personal" religious beliefs. No one can refute that; but in the meantime you are looking at not having ANY health insurance at all and if you suffer a serious accident or injury your costs are straight out of pocket.

And to the poster who mentioned pretending to move to another state to get immediate enrollment? Insurance fraud is a felony.

What are the feds going to do, try to tell you that you're "not muslim?" lol

I'm afraid thats not true. The ACA has very limited exceptions for religions, and only certain religions have specific exemptions. I remember one for the amish, for example.

But the general 'its against my religion' thing at present is not a valid defense. That might change after the supreme court hears hobby.

As always, you really have NO CLUE what your babbling about. Below are the exemptions once can take if it applies to them. As always consult someone in your representative's office if you have questions on whether you qualify for the exemption:

1. You’re uninsured for less than 3 months of the year;
2. The lowest-priced coverage available to you would cost more than 8% of your household income;
3. You don’t have to file a tax return because your income is too low;
4. You’re a member of a federally recognized tribe or eligible for services through an Indian Health Services provider;
5. You’re a member of a recognized health care sharing ministry;
6. You’re a member of a recognized religious sect with religious objections to insurance, including Social Security and Medicare;
7. You’re incarcerated, and not awaiting the disposition of charges against you; and
8. You’re not lawfully present in the U.S.

EdBowie -> RE: Obamacare takes off... (12/7/2013 7:13:50 PM)

FR

Islam has no religious objections to health care.  Given the large number of Middle Eastern men who are going to need blood treatment at some point in their lives, that's nonsense. And given that not all of them are wealthy, pooling money until medical needs arise is only haram to some extremist sects.

This is simply more StormFront generated agit-prop, and it is no more true than saying 'Christians have a religious objection to doctors...' based on a tiny handful of Christians.

MsMJAY -> RE: Obamacare takes off... (12/7/2013 8:42:59 PM)

So according to #6 from the source you quoted; if you claim religious objection to healthcare insurance you must also claim (or have claimed in the past) objection to participating social security and Medicare.

That makes me wonder how many Muslims have opted out of SS and Medicare for religious reasons. (My guess would be not many.) If that is the case, then we don't have to worry about too many people (Muslim or otherwise) using religious grounds to opt out.

Yea it's a great site. I tried it the other day to see what they would offer me. First they got my personal info and then it went to a screen with a few questions. Question one was "we see you lived on Schaefer is this in" then they listed 3 cities along with the option none of the above. They didn't have an option for "no I never lived on that street" so I picked none of the above. Then they gave me 3 phone numbers and asked if they were mine. I said no. Then they listed three companies and asked if I had worked for them, again I had to say no. After that screen I got a message saying thanks, now we know who you are. WTF Then they asked how much I made to see if I qualified for any discounts. When I gave them my income they said I was eligible but MI didn't accept the medicare expansion so it didn't matter. Now if I am not mistaken MI did accept it but apparently no one told them. So my final estimate was more than I actually earned but I am sure it's going to turn out to be a wonderful system. Well at least compaired to other government programs. [8D]

Michigan did not accept the Medicaid expansion. If you make less than 133% of the poverty line you are not eligible for a subsidy since you were supposed to be covered by the Medicaid expansion. So it has nothing to do with the system but the crazies that run your state government.

Lucylastic -> RE: Obamacare takes off... (12/8/2013 9:41:45 AM)

LANSING (AP) - Gov. Rick Snyder on Friday asked the Obama administration to sign off on Michigan’s Medicaid expansion plan, one that needs approval because it differs from the basic option offered to states under the federal health care law.

The expansion signed into law by the Republican governor in September establishes individual health savings accounts for adult recipients and requires them to pay up to 5 percent of their annual income toward the government health insurance program that Michigan runs through managed-care plans. Monthly premiums and copays can be reduced if participants engage in healthy behaviors – starting with completing a yearly health-risk assessment to identify smokers, substance abusers and those who are overweight or not up to date on vaccinations.

“We don’t see any show-stopper here,” state Department of Community Health Director Jim Haveman told The Associated Press. He said state officials have had weekly conference calls with federal officials to prepare the request and he expects their endorsement by year’s end, “hopefully by the middle of December.”

“This really is a Michigan-designed plan with a lot of input from the House and Senate and administration,” Haveman said. “There’s not another bill like this in the country.”

Medicaid already covers one in five Michigan residents, mainly low-income children, pregnant women, the disabled and some poorer working adults. Starting April 1, the expansion will cover adults making up to 133 percent of the poverty line — $15,500 for an individual, $26,500 for a family of three. Michigan now covers childless adults earning up to 35 percent of the poverty level.

Haveman said he expects 320,000 uninsured adults to enroll in 2014. Of those, about 70,000 will fall between 100 and 133 of the poverty level and be subject to premium requirements.

“This adds those adults who are really the working poor who don’t have health coverage,” Haveman said.

Adults making 100 to 133 percent of the poverty line can also buy insurance on the federal health exchange with the help of tax subsidies, though Haveman said the “Healthy Michigan” Medicaid program will offer extra mental health benefits, dental coverage and hearing aids.

Copays for newly eligible participants are the same as for current Medicaid recipients – $2 for an office visit, $1 per generic prescription drug and $3 for an emergency room visit that is not an emergency. In accordance with federal rules, no copays will be required for preventive services, emergencies and emergency hospital admissions.

Snyder, who pushed hard to win passage of the plan in a Republican-controlled Legislature resistant to the federal health care law, said Michigan is another step closer to having a “healthier, more productive workforce.”

Medicaid expansion is part of a strategy to ensure that nearly all Americans have health insurance under the Affordable Care Act. It was designed to cover the neediest uninsured people yet became optional for states because of a Supreme Court decision.

Michigan is one of 25 states along with Washington, D.C., to embrace Medicaid expansion. The latest to do so was Ohio, where a lawsuit has been filed by Republican lawmakers and anti-abortion groups because a legislative panel approved expansion funding but not the full Legislature.

I also looked up- verrrry cursorily- the "open enrollment" blather. One of the "qualifying life events" that entitles one to open enrollment is.... wait for it...... wait....... wait..... not much longer...... moving to another state.... TADA.

So, for the price of a tank of gas and a deposit on an apartment, insurance to cover your cancer.....

You still would have to wait....moving to another state is NOT a qualifying event

And once again it would help if you knew what the hell you were talking about. Like you had actually, you know, read the bill.
This is the 7th time you've been schooled on this bill you have claimed to have read, and know, time and time and time again.

I quote:

"RELIGIOUS CONSCIENCE EXEMPTION — Such term shall not include any individual for any month if such individual has in effect an exemption under section 1311(d)(4)(H) of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act which certifies that such individual is a member of a recognized religious sect or division thereof described in section 1402(g)(1) and an adherent of established tenets or teachings of such sect or division as described in such section."

If you then go to regulation 1402 IRS you find that, yes, indeed, the Amish are recognized under that regulation.
In general, any groupt that:

has been in existence since 1950. They self insure as a community. And they do not as a rule accept social security benefits.

Schooled again. One wonders when you actually will read the bill, since you've actually made that claim so many times.

truckinslave -> RE: Obamacare takes off... (12/8/2013 12:41:53 PM)

From the NY Post:

The good news, if you want to call it that, is that roughly 1.6 million Americans have enrolled in ObamaCare so far.
The not-so-good news is that 1.46 million of them actually signed up for Medicaid. If that trend continues, it could bankrupt both federal and state governments.

Yup, 0bama0care really is taking off.......

Timebomb

Phydeaux -> RE: Obamacare takes off... (12/8/2013 12:57:11 PM)

Right. As I predicted in september.

And all should read truckinslaves article as there are many other problems discussed.

Phydeaux -> RE: Obamacare takes off... (12/8/2013 11:23:24 PM)

Latest news is that Maryland has signed up more than 186000 for Medicaid.. and less than 8000 for insurance....

And even more amusingly - another study has found that providing physcician access for the poor did not on average improve the quality of life. Thats likely to be a bomb shell....

And yet another shoe to drop - subscribers under group health plans are finding premium increases based on the number of children.... and so while they are legally entitled to have their children on their policies - they can't afford them...

truckinslave -> RE: Obamacare takes off... (12/9/2013 12:47:42 PM)

Sooner or later, this thing is going to be killed. Parts of this effort by S.C. seem pretty clever (state tax deductions equal to federal penalties for non-compliance. Take that, obamao!) More importantly, it all seems legal.

S.C. defies the feds! Again!

Phydeaux -> RE: Obamacare takes off... (12/9/2013 7:14:51 PM)

Awesome article Truckin...

Those are some really creative regulations. I especially liked the tax credit equal to the fine proposed by the feds - and delicensing any insurance company that participated in obamacare was genius.

Sheer unadulterated genius.
