A few of you know why I loved CM and oddly enough the same person is part of why I left. No, I am not back but I thought I would put my 2 cents in.

Most of us left because of the behavior of the moderators...

This site encourages fake profiles, encourages all the worst of commercial kink.

Fet sucks but ANYTHING is better than how this place is and will be run.

But I would SO love to be proven wrong as...fet sucks.

Bye.

I know a lot of people left because of the behavior of the mods surrounding the infamous multiple personality lesbians from Canada.
I left for a while over that obvious ass kissing. "They" were able to call and attack posters right and left. We got called out and posts pulled if we fought back.

I rarely post anymore. The place lost it's appeal after that.
When I joined back in 2005, there was a general, jovial, ball busting attitude here. Think gooddogbenji, Jefff, Domiguy.
Then something changed....people suddenly got all butt hurt. Couldn't see the humor. Those three never changed. They actually gave great advice with a sense of humor, reality and definitely no "poor me" slant. When it became politically incorrect to not coddle someone...they were moderated relentlessly so that "feelings" weren't hurt. The place is not nearly as appealing now.

I have to agree also Fluff and its been really nice to see the change. Looking forward to the changes to come. I have been here since 2004 and have seen many changes. I have seen many old timers move on and many new comers come and stay for a bit and then leave again. I think a lot of it is just life in general.....sometimes we have time for the forums and other times we do not. I am not one to post a lot but I do ...do a lot of lurking.

That would work, but it would also involve making an effort.
Which is probably exactly the reason why the mods are unlikely to do anything of the sort, especially when it's easier to change one of the member titles, and then pretend that they've achieved something constructive...

Rest assured that staff is discussing this thread. You could help us out by making a list of bullet points, and separated by:

1. No coding changes
2. Minor coding changes - forum side
3. Minor coding changes - profile side
4. Major coding changes - forum side
5. Major coding changes - profile side

You might want to revisit the three-month-locked-thread rule, especially if you want to increase first-time traffic from on-site and off-site search engines. I don't have a concrete suggestion yet, but at the very least, the vibe feels wrong right now.

Scenario: new poster X finds a thread about fetish Y, and posts. The response from civilians feels like, "How dare you clutter up our space?" And the response from mods is to shut down discussion unless the new poster takes responsibility for starting the conversation all over again.

Someone coming in through Google should be encouraged, not stiffarmed. I don't know the best way to do this, though I do think that allowing all necroposts is better than allowing no necroposts.

Underling point being: the primary things these forums give that Fet groups do not, is the ability to search content. Might as well make as much use of that as possible.

I agree with this. One the one hand we tell people to search for info, then they do a search and pull up a thread (a minor miracle in itself), then get slammed for opening an old thread.

This is not the way to retain posters. Far too often those posts are closed when the current members are contributing to the thread.

Either have a way to make those old threads "read only" or change that rule.

I agree with this. The rule used to be no necro if the thread was more than 6 months old. Then it got shortened to three months. That's just making more work for the mods and I don't see it serving any useful purpose.

This also plays into my earlier suggestion for having perennial sticky threads regarding recurring topics that never get closed no matter how long they've been running. If someone wants to discuss feminization, there's a thread in AAMistress that deals with tips and support. There's a link to it in the FAQ for that section, but why not make it sticky? The same goes for Rochsub's findom thread. I know the mods didn't want to make it look like there was favoritism, but if that thread is stickied with several others regarding different topics, then it wouldn't give that impression.

I think a couple of minor coding tweaks on the profile side would also help. Oh, who am I kidding, the profile side needs a complete overhaul. But these changes shouldn't be too difficult to make with minimal effort.

1. Make options for Top/Bottom in the Orientation field, add the corresponding check boxes for "Searching For M/F/T top/bottom, and add Top/Bottom to the search parameters. That way people aren't as confused and don't have to select an option that isn't really who they are and/or doesn't reflect what they're looking for simply because there's no other alternative.

2. Make a relationship status field. There's already a button that gives the option to create a couple profile so adding an "in relationship yes/no" button shouldn't be difficult. It doesn't need to be as extensive with options as FetLife. This will allow us poly people to indicate we're in relationships without being limited to a "couple". Seeking Poly Relationship is one of the search options so I have no idea why a relationship status field hasn't been implemented already.

3. Give professionals a way to designate themselves and add a "Seeking clients" checkbox. Allow people to filter those profiles out more easily on that side and there will be a significant drop in complaint threads on this one.

The necrothreads is an interesting one. On one hand, as you point out, people are encouraged to search and it's easy to miss how old a thread is. On the other hand, often the necrothreads appear with someone directly addressing an OP who hasn't been on the site for six years. When it's a thread like 'share your experiences with x-technique' there's might be benefit in it continuing. When it's 'tell me what to do about my specific situation' probably not. I don't know what the answer is.

I often see new posters advised to start their own thread but they rarely do, and sometimes I think they have a valid point or question. Perhaps next time I'll just start the new thread myself and link back.

Re the sticky threads/mega threads: I'm always put off if I go onto a site and there's a topic I want to discuss, but their thread is already 100 pages long. I know I probably won't have time to read it all, don't want to repeat people or look stupid. I just think we should be wary of shoving all posts on that topic into one thread, because people with a genuinely different take on the question won't get heard, they will be buried under the huge number of other posts just responding to the OP because they haven't read it all. (Short version: Stickies in addition to, not instead of, allowing more threads on the topic)

Oh I agree about the mega stickies, that's a big bad mess on Fet.

They have numerous stickies about great topics for the novice, but then they have links to 20 threads of at least 100 posts, it's just too much info to wade through. And I think this is especially true if you are new, and having to analyze and digest the info, as well as read it.

This is a really good suggestion. IC (a site that was hugely popular but now gone) used to have a tick box in the profile section. It simply said, tick this box if you are a pro/financial dominant/sub. This allowed everyone to see exactly what they were looking at before contacting.

If the pro decided not to tick the box but still touted business through that site, there were warned and if it continued, banned from the site. It ensured the right people ticked the right box but it also stopped the forums getting junked up with threads bemoaning about 'professional services' and how all the women on the site were cunning manipulative scroungers.

FYI, I am the only staff that was here during that and I came in on the end. My involvement was in sourcing those profiles and sending the information up the line which led to them all being linked finally.

We are also ever vigilant to prevent something like that from happening again.

Great posts were generated by many that no longer post, but being popular does not permit a pass on violating the guidelines. Members complain of favoritism but then complain when it is not shown to their favorite posters. Cannot have it both ways.

Some refuse to comply with the guidelines, and no matter how funny or great their posts are, they get moderated just like anyone else when they break the rules.

You see, when you are staff you get to see ALL of those old posts that were pulled, and all of the messages sent to staff by those that have left. Then a whole different picture is seen. I am not saying anyone that you have listed have or have not done this, I am just saying perception from the outside is not always the truth on the inside.

When a member posts something about staff that is untrue, there is not much that can be done other than to reply and say it is not the truth. Due to privacy we cannot release or post the documentation that says otherwise. In these instances the staff just has to make their case or ignore the post.

Thanks for being a part of CollarMe,

Sure. Please participate in the poll. Posters do not want to allow necro threads to be revived should specify why in this thread:

Should Necro Post be allowed to be revived?

I hate to say it, but most of the people left here because it got boring. Same topics. Same troll subjects. Blah blah blah.
Fet is appealing because you can have a choice over there. If you feel like having a serious debate, you can find one.
If you feel like busting balls with friends. You can have that too. You can call someone a douche and not get a gold letter.
Can't do that here.

I have a loyalty to this place. I met the love of my life here on these message boards. I'd love to see it do well.
But it's become cold, impersonal. The appeal of the different personalities is gone. Personalities got moderated away.

To be fair, Domi did troll a hell of a lot. That's not an insult to him- I actually get on well with Domi and have had a good laugh with him on FL. But I'm sure he wouldn't claim otherwise.

Of course he trolled, but he stuck around. People felt like they knew him. In between all of his annoying words were little gems of truth. He was and still is almost spot on in advice. Some people might just have a little problem with his delivery...

petitespot, his posting style changed after a particular event happened in his life. It became much angrier, less humorous. With him, it wasn't a CM problem. He's cycled through 5,000 different profiles on Fet.

I don't disagree with your general point, though. I was one of many people who left during the lesbian house ruckus. I left about six months before the final reveal, and checked in again a year later to see things were very different, so I started posting again.

What about creating a perennial thread in P&RS designated as a Venting Zone? We have one for sad solicitation emails and there used to be one called "Welcome to Inappropriateville" or something like that where people just came to vent frustration. There would have to be some rules, like "No names or giving info that could lead to an ID" and "No victim blaming" for people who are reading. That would give people an outlet to complain about things like fakes/timewasters/yadda yadda yadda and anyone who didn't want to read it could just avoid the thread.

Just out of morbid curiosity, I have to ask. What was the "lesbian house ruckus?"

Arpig created the "Hannah McLeathers" and a fake poly lesbian family. Something like 9 different accounts.

Yeah, I remember this was one: http://www.collarchat.com/searchpro.asp?phrase=&author=SuzeCheri+&forumid=ALL&topicreply=both&message=body&timeframe=%3E&timefilter=0&language=single&top=300&criteria=AND&minRank=0&sortMethod=d&submitbutton=+OK+

But, I missed the final blow up. We had just bought the house and were scrambling to get it cleaned out and moved in before Christmas.
