I agree with the fact that it has been allowed to go way too far, MsMJAY, but it isn't a black thing. Brown people, yellow people, and plenty of long-haired white boys have all been on the receiving end of same for decades. In fact, I would say that making it a black thing is an exceptionally good way to marginalize the issue, and let them keep it up.

Focusing on differences fragments opposition to rights encroachment. Short haired middle age white guys are affected too.

Almost fifteen years ago I was pulled over in Nashville Tennessee for the offense of, as the officer described it, a Yankee right turn. I guess it had nothing to do with my Pennsylvania plates. In the process I had to explain to him as to why I was in his state and how long I would be there. I was was absolutely mortified.

Last year, here in Florida, I was with my son from another mother and we were pulled over according to the officer for expired tags. This occurred in June, the tags expired on 12/13. I guess that had nothing to do with a black man driving a Range Rover with a white woman beside him.

Profiling can be about anything the police want it to be, but for whatever reason they can come up with, it's wrong.

I don't have a problem with profiling as long as it is based on behavior.
You know 4 guys in turbans and trench coats nervously pacing in from of a synagogue in
80 degree weather tells you something is up.
The same 4 guys without the trench coats is another matter.

Was it for their behavior or because they were wearing turbans? I would be nervous if I saw 4 anybody's wearing trench coats pacing in 80 degree weather.

In that case behavior perhaps but I think it is pretty precise to say that police do not "behavior" profile.
Say two kids are playing tag. One white and one black. Two police cars roll by at two different times and are oblivious to the game. All they see is the action of the chase. Are they going to "behavior" profile the act of the the white kid chasing the black kid, or the black kid chasing the white kid.

I did not say black. In fact you are the first one to say anything about blacks. I said minorities and urban areas.
Exceptionally good way for you to marginalize the issue.

If they ignore it when the white kid is chasing and act if the black kid is it's wrong.

Or you've been watching Dukes of Hazards episodes all weekend. So what happened, he or she gave you a ticket for unexpired tags or "yankee" tags but realized they were not expired and apologized or did he or she lock you up until a deputy named Barney brought you hot apple pie from Aunt Bee and let you out after warning you never to come back through here unless you drove alone with only a peanut and jelly sandwich, unless of course you have a peanut butter and jelly sandwich to offer to the white racist deputies? I am suddenly re-aware there are some who hate white southern law enforcement officers and have profiled them as abusing their power.

Knowing Nashville, I can guess what really happened, you were messing around in what are known as "zero tolerance" zones of which there are a few in Nashville and make a bad turn or a lane change without signal and they nailed you. Fifteen years? You sure hold your anger in.

Yes, it would be. That's why I find behavior profiling would be hard to do. Even though a police officer isn't supposed to have a prejudice, some do which will rule over ethical sense any day of the week

And yet in the example I gave they would be derelict if they did not profile based on the behavior

You are correct.
With the two home invasions, the AF Sgt's. fate was put into the hands of a politically driven prosecutor.
The Florida man was most definitely profiled in some way. Could it have been a bumper sticker or perhaps his Florida plates alone gave this port authority officer all the cause he needed.

Maryland won't tell so we do not know.
And yes politics guided the MD home invasion because it sure wasn't the facts.

I believe MD will remain tight lipped and hopes it goes away.
I'm hoping someone has the sense in the DA's office to drop the charges. I'm also wondering whether he will have JAG representation or if he had to hire a civilian attorney.

Yes I quoted rap lyrics about the behavior of the police. If there were some lyrics by others that I knew of about the behavior of the police I would have posted those too. The fact that the lyrics are by a black person does not change the fact that the lyrics are ABOUT police violating the rights of citizens. Again it was YOU who injected race into this. I mentioned only minorities and urban areas. (BTW- you may not be familiar with urban areas, but white people live in urban areas too.) So whatever you thought you saw in my post is most likely a reflection of yourself. Deal with it.

He does not have Jag representation.
As they explained it to me they can advise but cannot represent a service member
in a civilian court. Unless there is a defense fund MD will ruin him even if he wins.

Let's hope they drop the charges. I think I read somewhere that some of his friends started a fund for him, that could have only been for the bail though. In any case, under the circumstances, I wish him well.
