According to this http://www.gallup.com/poll/164438/first-time-americans-views-russia-turn-negative.aspx there aren't a whole lot of people on either side of the fence who care for the man. "Americans' opinions of Putin are declining as well. Currently, 19% view Putin favorably, while 54% hold an unfavorable opinion of him." Kinda puts your claim that "rightists" have some kind of crush on him in a more realistic light.

The rank and file are more victims of their leadership than anything else.....

Any embarrassments and or discomfitures, from association/membership with the geopee, is purely in the mind of that republican....and their own problem......No one else`s.

Please show me where anyone suggested that none of them did? I know I didn't so you must be talking about someone else. According to the link I posted 19% think favorably about the man and I would have to be on drugs to assume that they were all on the left or all on the right. I have mentioned many times that there are assholes on both sides of the fence but some of the posters here have a real problem with that. When confronted with the truth they just post more links thinking that one more example is going to somehow prove that they all do it.

Sorry the rank and file are the problem b/c they pick the candidates and those candidates have to please and reflect the base. George Will advocated for immigration reform in the Washington Post on Friday, but it's the ugly base that killed the initiative. Elected leaders mirror their constituents, and it's the rare Republican who takes the microphone from a voter and says, "no, President Obama is not a Muslim."

George Will evaluated immigration reform by looking at the facts and combining those facts with an economic growth POV. The base just hates immigrants for ill-informed reasons. Republican politicians have not been able to raise the bar and thinking of the base - and have little proclivity for leadership in this regard.
