Don't forget the wedge problem with the Colt pattern revolvers. The vibration of shooting would loosen the wedge and the gun could disassemble itself. A bit of a huge problem when on horseback. The Remington pattern does foul faster but was considered more reliable for combat conditions. I noted the Uberti replica of the 1851 Colt has a spring lock on the wedge.. so much better than the original with a friction fit.

My favorite black powder is a double barrel .451 flintlock.... just for fun. For serious I'll use the .44 remington pattern.

I usually advocate against leaning against stuff when firing High Caliber/High recoil long guns. In my experience it has always increased the discomfort felt while shooting.
I always hate when people hand first time shooters large caliber stuff...although it can be pretty funny.

Shooting my Remington 870 at a indoor range with 3 inch slugs turns heads!

Well when I fire my nitroexpress, I usually brace myself against a tree or some other solid object. Doesn't make the recoil any better but it does allow me to control the weapon.
