84,000 people signed up.

249,000 people cancelled.

Net: 160,000 people lose insurance. And of course tax payers are on the hook for the subsidies.

You left off 135,000 who signed up for Medicaid. I wonder how many of that 160k found they were eligible for Medicaid and didn't need to buy any insurance?

Why would people who were able to afford private health insurance qualify for Medicaid?

Because after the Obamacare bill past the average price of health insurance to the individual more than tripled and the average deductible increased tenfold.

Because their income was low enough that they do? Nationwide many people had junk insurance plans which got canceled and many of those qualified for the expanded Medicaid in the states where it expanded like Colorado.

Okay fair enough, but I'm still doubtful. Can you give me some examples, perhaps from news stories, of people whose income is high enough to have allowed them to purchase private health insurance plans before Obamacare who are now on Medicaid?

And is there a source to which your acquiring all of these numbers from?

Curious of all this is how uninformed the average American is on the topic. It was not the President who cancelled those policies, nor the Democrats. It wasn't the Republican/Tea Party (shocking, eh?). It was not even the ACA. No, the group to blame for the cancellations are the lawyers that worked directly or indirectly for the insurance companies. Basically the insurance companies got really good advise that the new health care law placed new rules on how insurance is bought, maintained, and managed in the United States. The law stated criteria that had to be met for a particular plan to remain in effect after the Jan 1, 2014 deadline. Those plans that met this criteria were 'grandfathered' under the law.

However, those plans that remained had differing levels of 'grey matter' to be sorted out. The lawyers advised their clients that any amount of 'grey matter' could land the company into a bad court case in which the judge/jury rules in favor of the insurance company's clients (i.e. the people holding the polices). Obviously, none of these insurance companies wanted any sort of 'grey matter' that could interfere with their primary business purpose: making a profit. So the plans were cancelled out and others created using the new set of rules to potential customers. This is stuff not heard from by most Americans, even though after hearing it, most nod their head and understand it makes good business sense. Those that have an obvious agenda to this business understanding, will claim the cancellations are not how I just stated, but some weird conspiracy to undermine the health of every American in the country (or some other crack-pot and/or flaky idea in fantasy).

Those people that lost their insurance because the insurance companies ended them, will have to pick up a new insurance plan or settle for a penalty.

It is important to note not every state took the expanded Medicaid plan. Many of the 'red states' opted out in 'protest' of the ACA. Meanwhile their citizens will simply suffer all manner of problems. The biggest is the Cost to the States Themselves. I've heard that thanks to the 'brilliant minds' in the Florida Republican party, the 4th hospital in that state has closed due to funding issues. The sort of funds that would have been used through the expansion of Medicaid....

My guess is 'not alot' as the Republican/Tea Party have done a very good job of spreading disinformation and total lies towards people trying to find correct and accurate information. Now WHY would they do that?

After a little searching I came up with this bit of information.

The cancelled is not a net of lost insurance, so that is innumeracy number one.

Innumeracy number two is that the subsidy of a -160k people on taxpayers would not be something that nutsackers should drool on about.

Obama is taking your tax burden away!!!!!

LOL. I love the cretins, they are just so........cretinous.

500/yr x 10 = the current 5000/yr deductible => tenfold

The premium tripled (approimately) from 380/mo to 1250/mo

so, an equation of mathematics without the proof of the equation is simple masturbation.

And that is what we have here.

Because after the Obamacare bill past (sic) the average price of health insurance to the individual more than tripled and the average deductible increased tenfold.

I do not buy the assumptions (sans fact) so I do not buy the deal, this looks like freemarket economics, which is to say fantastical asswipe.

Some asswipe with a kernel of truth. A small kernel. Perhaps just a grit.

My plan with cigna had me paying $590/month with a $3000/yr deductible. It was 10% lower the year before. Prior to that I was with Avalon paying $450/month with a $5000/yr deductible. Before Obamacare, I would have to pay $10,000 before Cigna would kick in a dime. I did however get some lower rates. So going to the opthamologist woul be $90 instead of $120.00.

Obamacare comes along, and Cigna tells me premiums are now going up to $680/month.

I go get me some Obamacare. I now have a plan with Blue Cross. I'm paying $300/month. My deductible is is $1665/yr. I've been to the doc twice and have had lab work... lo and behold that didn't cost me anything yet. I would've paid out $400 for services if I'd stayed with Cigna.

And the real beauty: Blue Cross always denied me service for pre-existing conditions.

knot knee moor

Then I "read" about how bad Obamacare is. But then I remember reading about those "Death Panels". Blue Cross hiring Death Panelists these days? I didn't get the memo.

So my Cigna policy jumped. Again. Bigtime. Fine. Seeya because I am WAY better off. And if they had cancelled my policy, this would have been bad how?

My memo reads Kathleen Sebelius.

Ive wondered why many times, why the spotlight hasnt poured on the insurance companies bullshit tactics like Evesgrdns post shows...
the hypocrisy and greed is just incredible
Evesgrdn, IM glad you got a cheaper plan, :) I have several friends who have halved their costs because they have pre existing conditions, and moved to a cheaper plan that offers better coverage than previously.
I dont share the details because Im not american, which disqualifies me from being a legit source (apparently) and have no source that im willing to share, , its good to see it is out there.

Is there an another planet earth where this is happening? Because all of the people I know are now actually paying far less. Must be I only know flukes or maybe you pulled those numbers out of a hat?
