Leads to an interesting history of a dissenting voice.

While I see the parallels I don't see British gun control to be anymore my business
than ours is theirs

1) This is not a US only board
2) He's not making a recommendation, simply sharing the history.

I'm of the mind we can learn from the experiences of others. I know you prefer to already know.

FR~

It seems to been written with a very specific slant as if we are overly oppressed about our gun ownership and control laws.
It is certainly taken from a very pro-gun ownership perspective. [8|]

What the writer obviously missed is the fact that for most of us, we actually prefer our laws to that extreme with regard to firearms being in the hands of the general populace. [:D]

Wrong again I just don't think their laws are any of my business and I'm not going to argue about them
By the same token it is not their place to talk down to us about our laws.
And I don't have to rant about how stupid their laws are to learn how they do things.

Musicmystery -> RE: Gun control in the U.K. (3/21/2014 10:18:17 AM)

I'm not wrong -- you've just reaffirmed the point to which I'm responding.

If you simply feel this isn't your business, then simply don't get into the thread.

And you certainly make a good point. I think he makes an implication though that gun control in the US would be a very slippery slope with one thing leading to the next until just about everything is either severely restricted or illegal. .

It's a pretty bizarre source.

And as far as I am concerned your gun laws are your business, shame you aren't as open minded about ours.

You know we've had gun control laws since the Constitution was ratified and that hasn't happened right?

Musicmystery -> RE: Gun control in the U.K. (3/21/2014 10:43:52 AM)

Slippery Slope is another basic logical fallacy. I just didn't want to get into that with him again.

I understand his position (in the sense of what it is), and we're not going to open his eyes. Fair enough. Nor is his position unique, as it's a basic NRA talking point.

Clarity.

We are just as open.
The thing is, we started going through a phase that the US has been living in for the last few decades and we nipped it in the bud before it got out of hand. [:D]

You know we've had gun control laws since the Constitution was ratified and that hasn't happened right? Though if they can indoctrinate the masses into believing the 2nd amendment pertains to the national Gaurd or some such shit then we'll start slipping down the road ata faster

It hasn't happened yet because that pesky 2nd amendment has managed to make gun control a much higher mountain to climb than In the UK. Though if they can indoctrinate the masses into believing the 2nd amendment pertains only to the National Gaurd or some other silly shit then we'll start slipping down that slope at a much faster pace.

Phydeaux -> RE: Gun control in the U.K. (3/21/2014 2:07:01 PM)

Well, since there are numerous brits that feel free to opine that we should have gun control in the US, I think its only about fair that we should have a thread where we Yanks get to come and be rude and obnoxious and insist the brits should immediately institute a policy of mandatory gun ownership.

I've said this before on other threads. To quote myself,

Arm The British !!!!!!!!!!!

You obviously never absorbed Bama's quote from the SCROTUS when it was one of his taglines, Phydeaux - that one that said that free men own guns, whereas slaves don't. Brits are slaves who, lacking guns as they do, *never* 'feel free'.

Do not try and make my posts say things different than what I wrote. That is against the TOS. Simply admitting you were full of shit would have been the simplest response.

Now now. Judging from the British joke

"Whats the only thing wrong with Americans"
"oversexed, overpaid, and over here".

We shouldn't make the scurrilious assumption that they are slaves. Merely that they have small dicks, low pay and are xenophobic.

Perhaps we should send Geraldo over to the BBC just like we were inflicted with Piers...
