I thought i would start a thread alongside the USA one which gives everyone there chance to have a say on the U.K. Apparently there are only five people in the U.K that post on the forums so we may be a little out numbered but what the hell lol.

I think it's a nation with a rich history and a bright future. I'm proud to call you "ally" and "friend", even when we don't see eye to eye.

Yes what Level said! I however have been to England and had a great time there! Seems though everytime I was in a Pub there they'd say; "Glasses!" and I'd have to go to another Pub in the afternoon with those strange "Hours" things they had there.

Yeah in general pubs used to close at 3pm and reopen at 7pm. Now most are 24 hour opening.

I went to school with Dave Robinson who later went on to become the drummer for "The Cars" in Woburn, Mass. His Mother was from England and whenever a British Warship pulled into Boston for a visit she'd invite a bunch of the Sailors over to the house for a visit and we'd have a big party! Next day we'd go into Boston to go aboard the ship for a tour.

Two things about the U.K. for me: Have any of you blokes watched the movie ''Green Street Hooligans'' yet? I watched it earlier in the week and thought is was great! It reminded me of when I lived in Cali and we used to go to the Raider games and sit in the bleachers, just to watch all the drunks fight. HAR! The other thing is.... I think you all should borrow some of that bottled-up enthusiasm you have when you attend your soccer games, and use it to tell Blair and the British parliament to stick their new ID cards up their ass. For gods sake man we dont play or watch soccer !!!!!!!!! Its FOOTBALL. Actually we dont play it very well - see this world cup!! The id cards !! If you have nothing to hide no problem in carrying one is there?

I love the UK and have visited four times in the past four years, the lastest time just before last Christmas. I love to see theatre on the West End and just be in such an amazing country. Once I even flew over for a weekend because I got a great price on a ticket and wanted to see some friends. If I could work out the visa situation, I'd live there in a heartbeat.

Northern Ireland is part of the United kingdom. Southern Ireland is a republic which means it has no affiliation to the United Kingdom. Basically after world war two Southern Ireland wanted its independence which Winston Churchill allowed it dividing the country into two.

"Northern Ireland" which comprises the Counties of Fermanagh, Derry, Antrim, Tyrone, Down and Armagh belong to Great Britain.

Question: When did the term of choice become "United Kingdom"? When I was growing up, it was "Great Britain." "U.K." existed too, but no one used it. Now I never hear anyone say "Great Britain."

When we say England we refer to just England. When we say United Kingdom or Great Britain we refer to England, northern Ireland, wales and Scotland. They are one and the same and both terms are used frequently over here.
