The jobs will still be low paying jobs, and the employers will still be playing games with overtime, safety regs, and paying taxes, whether the employees are illegals or not. Hence the thread title...it is the employers, not the illegals who dictate the work situation. Maybe those living on the taxpayer's dime get to walk in and announce what they will and won't accept and stand for, but it doesn't work that way in those parts of the private sector... You want the job, you take what they are offering, and you keep your mouth shut when you see something shady going on. If crooked employers can't coerce non-illegal employees with threats of calling INS, they will coerce them in other ways, as the Food Lion video, and countless industrial disasters, and so forth, repeatedly prove. There was a documentary out a few years ago, about steel mills in Alabama IIRC. One was so crooked, it would rather kill off its workers than fix dangerous equipment, or follow safety regs. It was cheaper to pay an $8K per violation OSHA fine than to slow production and save lives. They actually raised the wages to get workers, after too many locals were killed and maimed...care to guess who came in? That's right, immigrant workers...legal or otherwise. So real life sort of shoots a hole in your nice theory, doesn't it?
