Have you never heard of the Posse Comitatus Act?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Posse_Comitatus_Act

So, it could be done. If the Armed Forces are here for "National Security," wouldn't it seem reasonable that the "security" of our "nation's" borders would be included in that?

The part I bolded (and put in red font) has got to be one of the silliest responses I've seen here.

Isn't protecting our borders a job for federal troops? I would consider it part of "provide for the common defense".

Make no mistake about it; what we are experiencing is an economic invasion. I'm not claiming that it's a concerted effort by an actual government but it is a drain on our economy in so many ways that it's at critical mass.

I am usually not one to look to the federal government for redress of grievances but, I don't see any other solution.

Add to the fact that it was the PPLs that got a whole lot of laws enacted that ban civilian law enforcement from even coming close to asking about a person's immigration status and you're left with the questions: "Whose responsibility is it, then?" and "Have we just opened up our borders to just anyone?"

Screen captures still RULE! Ya feel me?

It definitely is not the armed forces. We do not used the military for law enforcement period.

It spells trouble for the Republican Party, to be sure.

But it's not good news for Democrats either. The message Republicans will hear is not to work with Democrats, not to accomplish anything, not to compromise, because it could haunt them in the election.

Whether a Tea that wins a primary is a good target depends on the region. In this particular conservative district, he's probably going to Washington.

That means a House that EVEN more incalcitrant, even more extreme, even more intolerant of moderates in its ranks, even more economic risks taken with our credit rating and reputation, even more expensive showdowns.

The Teas are the ONLY winners here.

The real message, that Republicans (and Democrats) need to listen to their local constituents and not just national party dogma, likely went unheard.

Indeed!

Lots of independents out here, who despise the tree-hugging environment Dems, as well as Tea Party and non-compromising Repb's.

Perhaps a huge opportunity for a New Third Party to Arise ... then represent the majority ...

Wishful thinking?

I keep a close eye on national polling and nothing shows any indication of any large group of anti environmental independents. The only anti environmentalists are on the right in the GOP.

But we deported more under Obama than Clinton. Do you think we have made a dent, after spending all them billions or trillions on it?
Massively fine, and long term incarcerate illegal employers, and its over in less than an hour.

Occasionally, I take you off hide, MN.

I must admit that a pic of you with your fingers in your ears and singing lalalalalawould not be an uncharitable characterazation.

And, I absolutely believe any immigration reform has to include much greater penalties to employers, so I'm good with massive fines and incarcerations (perhaps not "long term," but that can be changed if necessary to get the job done).

You are in a discussion about immigration and are ignorant of the fact that the penality for hiring someone who has crossed the border illegally is 5 years in the federal pen and $250,000 for each alien employed? Do you just post to see your shit in print. Why is it too much for you to educate yourself before you open your mouth and inundate us with your bafoonary? Do you only open your mouth to change feet?

There is plenty of precedent for using the military to repel an invasion

Sorry Ken but in case you haven't noticed patrolling the border isn't law enforcement.

It's enforcing immigration law, though. There is a big difference between enforcing immigration law as LEO's and enforcing immigration law as the military repelling an invasion, too. Maybe the answer is to bring out troops home and let them go into Border Patrol, outfit our BP with all the military surplus they can use rather than gifting it to local LEO's. The number of people in the military drops, the number of people working increases (the number of people getting paid by the US taxpayer won't increase, as those in the military that go to BP were already getting paid by the US taxpayer).

With the Commander-In-Chief in charge of it, right? Like with Vietnam and Korea, its just a police action.

Law enforcement.

When someone proposes a real solution, you get kind of panicky don't you.

Where does the Constitution even imply that we cannot use the military to repel a foreign invasion?

I am sure they have their papers in order if it isn't an invasion, and that they are coming through in a legal, orderly manner.

Baghdad Ken wouldn't admit it was an invasion even if there were machine gun laden technicals full of Mexican drug cartel people rolling down Madison Avenue in Chicago.

Ken's the biggest Apologista left on the boards, he'll never get a clue as to how bad a President Obama has been.

Except the White House and the President aren't actually taking credit...

WH:

"Congress, under the immigration laws that we've got now, Congress requires us to remove people who are removable and gives DHS, frankly, a whole lot of resources to do that job. DHS’s job is to make sure they make the best possible decisions on how they use those resources."

The President:
    quote:

"The reason for these high figures is because Congress doubled the number of ICE and Border Patrol agents. I don't this is something necessarily good or useful for many of these families," said the President.

You might want to read your talking points memo.

So? Sanity and rob were whining that the President doesn't do enough when in fact he does more than any previous President. I just pointed out reality.

Oh no! Someone was whining about something! DomKen to the rescue (with false attribution, no less)!!!

The President isn't anyone. He even says it's not him. Apparently, it's Congress (GOP and Democrats) that deserve the praise/blame (whichever your view of the deportation rate) for it.

And, according to your standard, you're fucking lying about him doing more than any previous President.
