To all the American denizens of the dungeon, happy 4th of July! Please take a moment to reflect on what this date means to this country.

to all the non-American denizens of the dungeon, happy 4th of July! Might not carry the same level of importance to you, but FFS, have a great fuckin' day anyway!

Whenever I think of 4th July I always think of this:

God knows how many times I've seen that film. Poor old Steve McQueen never, ever makes it over the barbed wire fence.

Happy Indie Day and well done you colonials!

I always think of the Battle of Gettysburg for some reason. Sad but I guess necessary, although I would say those guys who marched across the cornfield may not have agreed. But it was all a part and parcel of what made the U.S./ today I guess, so Happy 4th of July to all.

I saw a recreation of that on a drama doc recently. Just hideous. So sad.

Had relatives on both sides. It was utterly pointless. The war was lost already and Lee should have known it. He could have forced Davis to sue for peace and saved a bunch of lives. The Confederates may have had better individual soldiers and better officers but the Union had more men and the industrial capacity that the Confederacy had no hope of matching. It was just remotely possible that the Confederates might have taken D.C. in the early days of the war and forced Lincoln to negotiate a peace but by the time of Gettysburg that possibility was long gone.

Of course without the war ending as it did I would not exist as one of my ancestors was in a union Maryland regiment that spent the end of the war in Chattanooga where he met a local girl who he married and moved to the family farm with after he mustered out.

Sorry, I did mean to wish everyone a happy 4th except for the blighted British.

Don't discriminate. Wish them a happy 4th, too. If they haven't gotten over it after nearly 240 years, they deserve to be poked about it.

Butt out of how we play. That's the essence of what we are celebrating.

But thanks for the sentiment, however badly expressed.

What do people usually do over there? Parades, parties, bit of hearty boozing in the evening? Does it involve turkeys?

We kidnap a British person off the streets and, utilizing several very large fireworks, we do unspeakable things to him

Why do you ask

Parades, parties, drinking and fireworks (with the occasional hand being blown off from a drunk person attempting to set of fireworks).

We don't usually share this information, so I can only give you a hint.
