Leftists have trouble understanding that criminals do not obey the law any more than Kim Jong-un follows international norms for human rights.

the leftists in Detroit don't have a problem understanding that at all. And I doubt this area is that much different from other big cities. In fact a lot of them are gun owners. But if it makes you feel better to see the other side as walking in lock step with each other who am I to rain on your parade.

By the way.....its great that the gun rights people missed the whole point of the ad...which is intended to show the dangers of guns in the hands of domestic abusers,.

No, its you who misses the point

Again, a man typically doesn't need a gun to do serious harm to a woman, whereas women could often use some help defending themselves while under assault

If leftists are successful in their war on women, womens best method of defense will be taken away from them

The woman in the ad had no chance with a gun she would have had some chance.

Yea, she could have shot him after he kicked the door down and ended it right there. But the point about domestic abusers is valid. They shouldn't have guns. Unfortunately people don't always follow the law so some people who shouldn't have guns still carry them.

Not sure what Lucy's point was with the drive by. I don't think anyone suggested having a gun would protect you from that kind of shit. It sure as fuck couldn't have helped the 8 year old who was shot while he was home sleeping in bed the other night. Although if someone had had one when the 2 year old was killed, then a fuckwad walked up to her and shot her in the head might have been the one killed that night. But they didn't so we will never know. And amazingly enough, while I have talked to all kinds of people of these incidents, none of them brought up gun control as a possible answer. They are too busy trying to find out why people in the area are so angry that they feel the only solution is to go out and kill someone. They don't seem to be blaming the guns at all. Just the assholes who are running around using them.

What you may have been alluding to is that anyone convicted of domestic abuse cannot legally have a firearm so it seems that her first tale is an example of the total failure of gun control.

Allow me to clarify, yes I think anyone convicted of any violent crime including domestic abuse should lose any gun rights. They have already proven they can't control their temper and the last thing they need is a gun.

Not only should they, but they do.

And how effective is that ?
Before you claim that this failure proves gun control laws don't understand that I concede that fact myself.

No law fashioned by,and made toothless by ,craven politicians in thrall to the NRA and the rest of the gunidiocy has any chance to be effective

No law fashioned by self-styled courageous and compassionate whackos is going to work either, absent a totalitarian state to back it up.

Possession of a firearm by a felon (or a convicted domestic abuser) is a felony both state and federal, that is toothless? The point is enforcement.

Isn't this already tracked? I know on the back-ground check for buying a gun you're asked if you're a felon, if you've got a restraining order against you, or if you have even a misdemeanor conviction for domestic abuse. I always assumed that these would show up on a check and keep you from buying a gun?

I'm sorry, but how exactly is it toothless? Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon is a class C felony and gets you up to 10 years. It's only toothless is you concede that criminals don't obey the law and are willing to risk the jail time, but how does that have anything to do with the NRA?

As long as the information has been entered in the system and the felon tries to get the firearm legally you are absolutely correct.
They brag about stopping over 1,000,000 illegal sales a year, but they only prosecute a couple hundred of them, enforcement not laws. Of course it should be noted that over half of them turn out to be identity mix-ups but still..........

Because the NRA is the gun-a-phobic boogeyman.

I don't know how they do it in other states, but in PA (or at least my local police) they confiscate guns if they're investigating an allegation of domestic abuse. A few years ago my wife accused me of this. Actually she said that Daisy, myself, and one of the cats were plotting to kill her in her sleep. (Why "and one of the cats" didn't clue the police into a problem with the allegation I don't quite know.) They asked if I had any guns, and took them all while it was investigated. It took her being institutionalized and a letter from her doctor that she'd had a delusional break for me to get my guns back. It was an annoying situation, but I could understand them erring on the side of caution.

Was the cat going to shoot her or (as in the myth) suck her life out while she slept?
I agree including the cat in the plot should have tipped them off.
But you know the saying ..... even paranoids have enemies.

Considering the size of some of our cats, just dropping one on her might have done it!

Don't joke about them stealing your breath. I have trouble breathing to begin with. If I wake up with one of our chubby bastards on my chest I'm usually turning blue.
